Chapter 7 First Meeting

As soon as the get out of class was over, Chen Xin lay listlessly on the table. Xia Jin asked with concern, "What's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?"

Chen Xin sat up and said, "No, I'm just afraid I won't do well in the exam."

Xia Jin said, "Then you should review it quickly."

Chen Xin suddenly turned around, hugged Xia Jin's arm, and said with shining eyes: "Xia Jin, please help me. You are such a good student, so you will definitely have no problem with this exam."

Xia Jin looked at the lively girl in front of her and thought about what Chen Xin's ending was in her previous life. Why didn't she remember it? Xia Jin tried hard to recall that she was the first person to show kindness to her. Finally, Xia Jin recalled in her distant memory why Chen Xin dropped out of school and got married.

Chen Xin asked, "Xia Jin, what are you thinking about? I called you many times but you didn't respond."

Xia Jin said, "Nothing." Xia Jin thought, I must find out the reason behind this to avoid tragedy.

Xia Jin added, "If you have any questions you don't understand, you can ask me and I'll teach you."

Chen Xin said, "That's great, Xia Jin, I love you." Then she went to read a book.

Xia Jin studied in class and then worked on his homework afterward. After lunch, he found a wonton stand and ordered a bowl of wontons. They were cheap and generous, costing only thirty cents. He barely finished his meal. Afterward, he headed to the place where they had agreed to meet. When he arrived, the young man from yesterday was already waiting there.

Xia Jin looked at the tall, strong, broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted man next to the young man. He exuded an oppressive aura and looked like someone who was not to be trifled with. Xia Jin frowned and said to the young man, "Didn't I say yesterday that you were the only one coming?"

The young man said, "I don't have any money, and my uncle found out, so he insisted on coming with me."

The man looked at Xia Jin, who looked very awkward, with a flicker of interest in his eyes. He extended his hand and said, "Hello, Gu Jingmo, this person's uncle. Nice to meet you. May I know your name?"

Xia Jin was momentarily dazed when she heard the man's deep, magnetic voice, but she quickly came to her senses and said, "There's no need to get to know each other. We won't have many opportunities to meet in the future."

Gu Jingmo said playfully, "That's not necessarily true."

Xia Jin said, "What did you say? Forget it, did you bring your things?"

The young man said he had brought it, and then he opened the travel bag and a wooden box on the ground and said, "Here are 12 gold bars, each weighing one jin, and in the bag is two hundred thousand in cash."

Xia Jin took a look and said, "It's too much."

Gu Jingmo said: "Not much. A thousand-year-old ginseng is much more useful to our family than these things."

Since everyone said so, Xia Jin stopped being pretentious and handed them the ginseng he had packed long ago from his schoolbag and said, "Both roots are inside, take a look."

Gu Jingmo took the box, opened it, took a look, and said, "It is indeed much larger than any I've seen before. It should be a thousand years old."

Xia Jin said, "Okay, then the deal is done. These things belong to me."

Gu Jingmo extended his hand and said, "Please."

Xia Jin closed the lid and zipped up the bag. The moment he was done, he transferred the gold into the space. He also transferred some of the money. The shape of the bag showed that they had all been transferred. Xia Jin picked up the things and said, "Let's go."

The young man looked at Xia Jin's small body and saw how easily she picked up the things. He was surprised and said, "You are so strong?"

Gu Jingmo leaned against the wall and said, "Interesting, little guy, I look forward to our meeting later." Xia Jin didn't know that she was already being remembered. If she knew that she was still being remembered in this state, Xia Jin would definitely not be able to help but complain about his heavy taste.

Xia Jin walked back to a deserted corner and entered the space. He counted his gains from this afternoon's battle one by one, looking at the stacks of RMB. He thought about opening an account to deposit them after he moved out. Then he would need to buy a house of his own. He had too many secrets to live with others. He packed the gold into a box and put it away in his cabin; he had no use for it yet.

Xia Jin counted the money he earned from selling vegetables that morning. After a hard day's work, he had a good harvest, making three yuan. After sorting the money, Xia Jin left the space. While it was still early, Xia Jin bought a lot of cotton and cloth, preparing to have a few quilts and mattresses made.

Xia Jin bought a lot of cotton, so she paid fifty cents to have someone deliver it to her rented house on the lower street. She had the person put the cotton in the yard, settled the bill, and then left. She said to the owner, "Auntie, I'm alone and don't know how to make a quilt. Could you please help me make one for me, one quilt and two mattresses, for a total of six dollars."

The Zhang family had a hard life, so when Xia Jin was looking for someone to make a quilt, the first person he thought of was Aunt Zhang.

Aunt Cuihong said, "No need to pay, just a few quilts, take the money back quickly."

Xia Jin said, "That won't do. I need these quilts urgently. If you make my quilts for a few days, you won't be able to do odd jobs, so you must take the money." Xia Jin stuffed the money into Aunt Cuihong's hand.

Aunt Cuihong smiled and said, "Okay, I'll take it."

Xia Jin said, "You deserve it."

After Xia Jin finished her explanation, she returned to school. Two days of in-class tests had finally concluded. Although Xia Jin was confident about her grades, she couldn't help but feel nervous. She'd been studying in her online space every night for the past two days. She was determined to do well on the exams; only then would the teacher approve her application. Fortunately, with her online space, a powerful cheating tool, Xia Jin thoroughly reviewed her high school knowledge.

As soon as Xia Jin returned home after the exam, he saw the Xia family sitting on the sofa waiting for him. After seeing Xia Jin enter the room, Xia Jianguo said, "Xia Jin, go back to your room and pack your things. Come with me to move your household registration tomorrow."

When Grandma Xia heard her son asking Xia Jin to pack up her things, she said unhappily, "What does she have? Her things were all bought by our Xia family. Why should we pack them up? Just let her get out of our house like this."

Grandpa Xia said, "When she packs up later, please watch her carefully. Only let her take away the rags she brought from the countryside. Leave behind the things we bought."

Xia Qingqing gloated on the side and said, "I know, Grandpa, I'm relieved to see you."

After hearing this, Xia Jin knew that what he had been waiting for had finally come. However, Xia Jin understood that if he wanted to break up, he had to do it completely, and he had to let everyone think that they were the ones who drove him out. Otherwise, when they knew that he was rich, they would come to him and use family ties to kidnap him, and then it would be more trouble than it would take.

Xia Jin sneered and said like a scoundrel, "I'm fine the way I am now. I have someone to support me. Why should I leave? I have something to do tomorrow, so I won't stay with you."
