Chapter 5 Finding a Buyer

After Xia Jin finished washing the ginseng, he realized there were so many ginseng roots in the golden soil, roughly one or two thousand, that it took him a lot of effort to clean them. After washing them, Xia Jin felt hungry and picked some strawberries to eat. The strawberries grown here were particularly sweet and large.

While eating the summer brocade, he thought, "I need to buy some backpacks and baskets later, and the hut will also need some furniture and other things."

Xia Jin had almost finished eating, so he left the space. Thinking of the vegetables in the space, Xia Jin wanted to ask someone about it while walking, as she usually bought vegetables there.

Just as Xia Jin walked out of the dead end, there was a residential area. Xia Jin walked up to the old man who was chatting and asked, "Excuse me, where should I go if I want to buy groceries?"

"Little girl, let me tell you, West Street is the cheapest. There is also a vegetable market on Weinan Road, and there is also a vegetable market on the central street. Just go to the one that is closer." said the enthusiastic mother-in-law.

Xia Jin asked, "Okay, thank you, mother-in-law. Mother-in-law, do you know which pawnshop in the city is better? Is there a better Chinese medicine doctor in the county? My mother is seriously ill and I want someone to prescribe some medicine." Xia Jin was wearing old clothes with patches all over, and his hair covering his face. He really looked like a child from a poor family.

The mother-in-law said, "Oh, so that's it. You can go to the Huayu Pawnshop on the central street. It's the largest pawnshop here and they don't cheat you. Most people go there when they need money urgently. If you want to get medicine, do you know where to go?" The mother-in-law asked her companions around her.

"My son said that the Du family's herbal medicine shop is very good. You can go and have a look."

Xia Jin said, "Thank you."

After Xia Jin got the information he wanted, he went straight to the pawnshop. He originally wanted to go to the pharmacy to take a look, but then he thought that the ginseng was too big and the pharmacy might not be able to eat it. This kind of thousand-year-old ginseng can only be eaten by powerful people.

Xia Jin decided to try his luck at a pawnshop. After finding it, he didn't go in, but stood at the door, watching the people coming in and out. After watching for the entire afternoon, Xia Jin, losing hope, prepared to go home. Suddenly, he saw a young man in bell-bottom pants approaching. He was dressed stylishly, his face cynical, and he looked like a spoiled rich kid.

After approaching, Xia Jin saw that he was wearing a Rolex watch. He didn't know how much it cost, but it was more luxurious than any Rolex Xia Jin had seen in his previous life. After watching him walk into the pawnshop, Xia Jin thought that the person he had been waiting for might have arrived.

Sure enough, after a while the young man came out cursing. Xia Jin approached and heard him say, "Damn it, I was exiled to this shabby place with nothing. I can only give this as a birthday gift to the old man. If I take those broken things back, they will laugh at me to death." Xia Jin thought that our place is not bad, the granary of Northeast China. Although it is not as prosperous as the capital, it is not bad either.

Xia Jin walked up to the young man and said, "Do you want to buy a gift?"

The young man was talking to himself when he was startled by Xia Jin's sudden voice. Looking at the ragged Xia Jin in front of him, the young man said, "Yes, you have something good. But seeing you dressed like this, I think it's not good enough."

Xia Jin said: "I don't have it, but my uncle does. Come with me."

The young man followed Xia Jin into the alley and asked, "Come, little beggar, let me see what you have."

Xia Jin frowned, but fortunately her hair blocked the view of the young man. Xia Jin whispered, "Thousand-year-old ginseng, do you want it?"

The young man said in disbelief: "Little beggar, are you kidding me? You have a thousand-year-old ginseng."

Xia Jin said, "My family dug it up in the mountains. It's fresh and doesn't require any preparation. Do you want some?"

The young man said, "You really didn't lie to me."

Xia Jin said: "No, do you want it?"

The young man said, "Yes, yes, yes, the ginseng is there now."

Xia Jin said, "Do you have enough money? The price of thousand-year-old ginseng is not cheap."

The young man said, "Don't worry, I have money."

Xia Jin said, "Two thousand-year-old ginseng for 500,000, a goldfish worth 300,000 and 200,000 in cash. No bargaining."

The young man said, "It's too expensive."

Xia Jin said, "There's no other thousand-year-old ginseng left in the world except for these two, so it's not expensive at all. If we weren't short of money, we wouldn't sell it. Keeping it can help us prolong our lives."

The young man said, "Wait, I didn't say I wouldn't buy it. If you want so much gold, you have to give me some time so I can ask my family to transfer it to you."

Xia Jin said: "Okay, tomorrow at noon, the money and the goods must be handed over. You have to come by yourself. I don't care how you transport them. I hope it will be only you at the end of the transaction." He was indeed a young master. He took out 500,000 yuan without any hesitation.

In reality, Xia Jin had underestimated the allure of millennium ginseng. A family like the young man's, at the pinnacle of power, certainly had plenty of money. What they lacked was something life-saving. If a founding general lived ten more years, what would the family's future hold?

The young man said, "Okay."

After the two of them agreed, they parted ways. Xia Jin couldn't help but feel excited when she thought about getting the 500,000 yuan tomorrow. However, she still didn't forget her mission tonight. Thinking about the expressions on the Xia family's faces later, Xia Jin was very happy.

Xia Jin first bought a nice wooden box to put the ginseng in tonight so it would look nicer tomorrow. He couldn't just give the ginseng away tomorrow without wrapping it in anything. He also bought some string and plastic bags for tying vegetables in a basket, and now he had used up all the money he had left.

Xia Jin returned home, but his parents weren't home yet. Grandma Xia was cooking in the kitchen. Xia Jin went in, closed the door, put down his schoolbag, and lay down on the bed. When Grandma Xia called Xia Chengxia to eat, Xia Jin sat up from the bed, put on his shoes, and came out.

Xia Jin took the stool and placed it between Xia Cheng and Xia Cai and said to himself, "Why didn't you call me for dinner?" After that, he started to eat voraciously and said as he ate, "This dish is overcooked and there is too little meat. It's gone after just a few chopsticks."

Father Xia put down his chopsticks and said, "Go back to your room. Who told you to eat at the table?"

Xia Jin smiled and said, "I can't eat. If I'm not full, I'll be very unhappy. If I'm unhappy, no one will eat."

Old Man Xia said, "Okay, Jianguo, eat."

"Sister, why didn't you go to school today? Did you go out with someone?" Xia Qingqing suddenly said.

Xia Jin said: "Why don't I go? If you have any opinions, go find the teacher."

Xia Qingqing said, "I'm also concerned about you. I'm afraid you'll be associating with unscrupulous people outside."

Grandma Xia said, "Qingqing, don't worry about her. She will soon no longer be a member of our family. I don't think she can go to school without our family to support her. You must study hard and have a promising future so that you can take care of us, Xia Cheng and Xia Cai."
