Chapter 18: On Sale

Xia Jin said, "It's all on the board over there. Do you need me to read it to you again?"

The boss waved his hand and said, "No, no, I can do it myself." The boss looked down and saw the prices of the food listed from top to bottom on the cardboard.

The boss couldn't help but recited: "Potato chips are one cent a string, tofu is one cent a string, fish tofu is twenty cents a string. Little girl, this is too expensive. Vegetables are only a few cents a pound now. And what is this fish tofu?" Xia Jinding's price is one cent a string for vegetarian dishes and soy products, two cents a string for fish meatballs, and three cents a string and fifty cents a string for meatballs.

Xia Jin waved his hand and said, "It's not expensive. I added dozens of spices to this soup. Most importantly, they use bones to make it, and they add oil. Doesn't that all cost money? Look at us. We need to string everything together, and that labor also costs money. Not to mention the charcoal and the signatures, don't you agree?"

Actually, Xia Jin's products are not expensive, but they are definitely not cheap either. They are just moderately priced. Anyone who is craving for them can buy a couple of skewers to satisfy their craving.

The stall owner smiled and said, "That's expensive, but you really add that much spice."

Xia Jin said, "Just smell this. Have you ever smelled such a fragrant soup in all these years?" Actually, Xia Jin had lied to them about the spices. The soup did have spices, but not that much. It was mainly to get a good price. Besides, Xia Jin had added spiritual spring water, so they couldn't lose out anyway.

Xia Jin wasn't worried about others copying his spicy hot pot recipe. Everyone's version tasted different, and Xia Jin was confident in his skills. After all, he was reborn from the future. Not to mention, Xia Jin added spiritual spring water to make the soup base even better.

The stall owner said, "That's not true."

Xia Jin said, "That's it. Don't just look at the price of the food. You can't make it taste like mine even if you buy the food home."

The stall owner said, "Hearing what you said, it's true. So today I'll be generous. Miss, please boil two skewers of vegetables, one skewer of beans, two skewers of pork, and one skewer of fish tofu for me."

Xia Jin asked, "Are there any dietary restrictions on vegetarian dishes?"

The boss said, "No, just boil whatever you think is delicious for me."

Xia Jin deftly put the fish, tofu, and meat skewers into the soup, put the skewers in the bucket in front, and said, "Then I'll make you some hot lotus root slices, bean curd, and rapeseed. These are more delicious."

The stall owner said, "Okay."

Xia Jin quickly boiled it and put it in a bowl and asked, "Would you like some sesame paste?"

The stall owner said, "No need to add anything, just let me taste it as it is."

Xia Jin handed him the prepared food and said, "Eat slowly. Be careful of the heat."

The stall owner said, "That's exactly one dollar, right?" He counted out two fifty-cent bills and handed them to Xia Jin.

Xia Jin said, "Yes." He took the money and put it in the small cardboard box in front of him. Xia Jin thought that the business was finally open.

The stall owner took the food back to his stall and couldn't wait to eat it. He ate the lotus root slices first. The lotus root slices were crispy and fragrant in his mouth, with a hint of spiciness in the aftertaste.

The first bite was so delicious that the stall owner couldn't wait to eat the rest of the dishes. Soon, the dishes in the bowl were all gone. He wiped his mouth as if he hadn't eaten enough. But he had already spent a dollar just to get something. The boss looked at the soup in his bowl, took a bun from his stall, dipped it in the soup and ate it. After eating, he returned the bowl to Xia Jin.

The people around saw the stall owner buying Xia Jin's things and eating them so happily, and those who were familiar with the stall owner gathered around him.

"Lao Zhang, how does it taste?"

"It smells so good, and it tastes even better."

The stall owner, Lao Zhang, said, "If you want to know, go and try it yourself."

The wonton vendor said, "Oh, don't keep us in suspense. Is it delicious?"

Lao Zhang said, "It's delicious. It's the best thing I've ever eaten. It's fresh, fragrant, spicy, and completely different from what we usually eat. The meat isn't fishy or woody."

"If it's really that delicious, then I'll go try it too." Then he went towards Xia Jin.

"Hey, Lao Zhu, wait for me, let's go together."

"I'm going too." The three of them usually had some extra money from their small business. After hearing how delicious Lao Zhang described it, they all wanted to try it.

On Xia Jin's side, Xiaohua sent the items down and brought Boss Liu along. Boss Liu said, "Xia Jin, I immediately guessed it was you. This is the business you were talking about."

Xia Jin said: "Yes, what do you think of my business?"

Liu Peng said, "I think it's okay. You don't know that we can smell the smell from your stall in our store. Our neighbors are still discussing it and were about to come over to take a look, but then you brought it to me."

Xia Jin said, "Uncle Liu, please try it and give me some advice if there's anything that doesn't taste good."

Liu Peng said, "It smells good, so I'll go back and try it. How much is it in total?"

Xia Jin said, "I already said this is a gift for you. You helped me and said I'll treat you. How can I ask you for money?"

Liu Peng wanted to say something but was interrupted by the diners who came with him.

"Young boss, we can smell it from a long way off. How are you selling these things?"

Xia Jin said, "They are all on this board. Take a look and see what you want."

Old Zhu said first, "Boss, I want a skewer of pork and a skewer of chicken, as well as tofu, dried bean curd sheets, lotus root slices, potatoes, cabbage, and a skewer of this fish tofu and fish balls. The smell of your food is so delicious that it's killing me."

The wonton vendor said, "I'm just like him."

"Please help me replace the cabbage on top with mushrooms."

Xia Jin said, "Okay, do you three like spicy food?"

"Everything I eat is spicy."

Xia Jin said, "Okay, I'll iron your hair right away."

As he spoke, his hands started to move, and Sister Xiaohua was also helping. After blanching, Xia Jin packed the food for them according to their orders and put the dishes from the skewers into the bowls.

Xia Jin continued to ask: "Do you want sesame sauce again?"

Lao Zhu said, "I want to add more." "I don't want it." "I don't want it either."

Xia Jin said, "Okay, these are the two who don't want sesame sauce." Xia Jin put two skewers on each of them, handed them over, and then picked up a spoon and added two spoonfuls of sesame sauce to the one who wanted it. "Yours with sesame sauce."

Xia Jin said, "It's 1.4 yuan each for you. Come back after you've eaten. Sister Xiaohua, please help me collect the money."

After seeing them off, Xia Jin put all the dishes in the pot to boil. Xiao Hua asked, "Why boil so many?"

Xia Jin said, "Let's get off work together later. I'm afraid there will be too many people and I won't have enough time to perm my hair."
