The next day, evening.
Li Guifang was standing at the door of Guifangzhai, deftly moving the boxes of materials outside into the store.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a figure hurriedly walking across the street corner. The way he walked and the outline of his face looked indescribably familiar.
She squinted her eyes and took a look, but the man was walking in a hurry with his head down. In the blink of an eye, he slipped into the dead end next to him and disappeared.
"Are you dazzled?" Li Guifang muttered, but she was busy with her work and didn't have the time to think about it. She shook her head and bent down to continue moving her boxes, thinking that it was just a momentary dazzle.
Elsewhere, the bell rang at the Jiju Primary School, and the children rushed out of the school gates, chattering.
Li Shuhang held his sister Li Shuduo's hand tightly, and the two of them stood by the crowd and discussed in a low voice!
"Brother, are we really going to grandma's house first?" Shuduo asked with some concern, looking up at her little face.
"Yes," Li Shuhang nodded like an adult, carefully relaying his father's instructions this morning. "Dad gets off work late, so we should go to Grandma's house to do our homework first. When Dad comes, we can have dinner at Grandma's house and then go home together."
"Okay!" Shuduo agreed obediently. They often went to grandma's house for dinner recently, and she was very familiar with this route.
After the brother and sister had made an agreement, they carried their heavy schoolbags and walked one after the other along the familiar street towards their grandmother's house.
As the brother and sister turned into the quiet alley leading to their grandmother's house, a voice they had tried desperately to forget suddenly rang out like a ghost, with an uncomfortable eagerness and flattery:
"Shuhang! Shuduo! Wait! Wait for mom!"
Li Shuduo trembled all over and turned around suddenly. When he saw who was coming, his face instantly turned as pale as paper.
She grabbed Li Shuhang's arm tightly, her voice trembling: "Brother... yes... yes..."
Li Shuhang's back suddenly stiffened. He didn't look back, but his sister's reaction told him who the visitor was.
He held his sister's hand even harder and squeezed out a few words from between his teeth: "Sister, don't look, hurry up and walk, bah! Why walk? Run!"
As he spoke, his pace instantly quickened, and he almost started jogging while dragging his sister along.
Seeing that they didn't stop but started running instead, Lin Yaqin's voice suddenly rose a few notches, with a tearful tone: "Why are you running! Shuhang! Shuduo! I'm your mother!
Don’t you even want your mom anymore?! Mom was wrong! Mom really misses you guys! "
She stumbled and caught up, her cloth shoes making a messy sound on the cobblestone road.
"Wait for mom! Let mom see you! Mom has bought you new clothes and meat buns! Don't run!"
Her screams sounded particularly shrill and harsh in the narrow alley.
Hearing Lin Yaqin's footsteps getting closer, Li Shuduo was so scared that tears started streaming down her face and her legs went limp.
Li Shuhang clenched his teeth, his cheeks tense. No matter how people shouted from behind him, he stiffened his neck and didn't look back once. He just pulled his sister forward even harder.
"Shuhang! You're the older brother! Please persuade your sister! Mom is begging you!"
Lin Yaqin's voice was already hoarse, and she gasped in despair, "Mom knows I'm sorry for you! Mom regrets it! Give Mom a chance! Just once!"
The brother and sister turned a deaf ear and just ran as fast as they could, their little chests heaving violently as if a ferocious beast was chasing them.
The schoolbag kept bouncing on her back, and Li Shuduo couldn't bear it anymore. She cried out "Wow!"
The extreme fear made her burst out with astonishing speed as if she was on a Hot Wheels, almost running side by side with Li Shuhang.
Lin Yaqin was still stumbling and struggling to catch up, the air in her lungs seemed to be burning dry, and her voice was already broken.
She sobbed intermittently, "Mom... Mom really... knows she's wrong... Just let me... just take a look... just take a look at you..."
But as someone who lies in bed all day, her body has long been exhausted.
How could they be a match for two clever kids who have been running and jumping all year round?
But in the blink of an eye, the two small figures in front flashed at the entrance of the alley and disappeared completely!
Lin Yaqin chased for a few more steps in vain, and finally bent down exhausted, supporting her knees with her hands, gasping for breath, and her throat was full of the taste of rust.
She looked at the empty alley, her broken pleading voice still unconsciously spilling out of her lips: "Mom... Mom really knows she's wrong... Just let Mom... see you..."
After she caught her breath and stood up, she realized that she had unknowingly run to Hongqi Street.
There is no need to think about it, you can guess with your toes that the two little ghosts must have panicked and rushed into Li Guifang's house to seek shelter!
But when she thought about going to Li Guifang's house to block someone, Lin Yaqin felt scared and subconsciously shrank her neck.
That old hag Li Guifang has never been an easy person to deal with!
When she hadn't done that and was still a daughter-in-law, the old man had always been critical of her and never treated her well.
Now she has come back in disgrace. If she dares to come to his house, let alone enter, she will be beaten out by that old man with a broom as soon as she shows her face!
She had a plan in place. The two little guys were inexperienced and had soft hearts, so they were easy to control.
She only had to spend a few dollars, buy some snacks, squeeze out a few tears, and say a few soft words like "Mom misses you so much that it hurts", and she would never have to worry about not being able to coax the little girl.
As long as the child is willing to recognize her and call her mother, she will have the most important bargaining chip.
When the time comes, she will carry the box of snacks and go find Li Mingyuan, who still can't forget his old love for her and who once loved her to death.
She knew him too well. As long as she humbled herself, cried bitterly, said some soft words of regret, and told him about the hardships and sufferings she had endured after leaving him, she didn't believe that his heart would not soften!
As long as Li Mingyuan softens his heart and nods, agreeing to remarry, the matter will be a foregone conclusion.
By then, the matter was already settled. Even if Li Guifang hated her in her heart, as a mother-in-law, could she still be so strong as to defeat her own son? In the end, she would have to hold her nose and accept her as her daughter-in-law!
She thought she had planned every step perfectly, but she never expected that as soon as she raised her foot for the first step, she would kick the iron plate hard!
The attempt was not successful. Not to mention winning over the child, she didn't even get a stab at the edge of his clothes. She scared him so much that he peed his pants and hid behind his most feared old enemy.
She froze in place, not knowing whether to move forward or retreat. She could only stare at the entrance of the alley in the direction of Li Guifang's house, her eyes flickering with complicated emotions. Her heart was in turmoil, and she was completely at a loss.
