Chapter 27: Eating Watermelons Together

At daybreak, Li Guifang hid under the wall at the corner of the street, swinging a bucket of paste back and forth in her hand.

The pair of blue cloth shoes were already soaked by the morning dew, and there were a few dead leaves stuck on the uppers.

She squatted in the corner of the alley, and from time to time she looked at the corner of the street, like an old cat waiting to catch a mouse.

"Fang'er, will the police station really post notices? Should we post them too?"

Xie Da Laba came over with her neck hunched, holding a pink leaflet distributed by the Women's Federation in her arms. If you didn't know better, you would have thought that these two old ladies were going to set off a bomb.

Li Guifang spat into her palms and rubbed them vigorously. "How could it be false? Public Security Xu told Mingyu himself!"

Last night, Li Guifang went to find Xie Dazui and they discussed it.

Early this morning, they came to the bulletin board and waited. When the police station came and posted the results of the handling, they posted the flyers next to it. Then, Xie Dazui ran to the next street to help them promote it!

The heated discussions last night had long been blown away by the morning breeze, and now both of them were more cowardly than the other.

"Fang, Fang'er..." Xie Dazui's voice trembled, "If we get caught, won't we both have to go to a training class?"

Li Guifang swallowed hard and said, "What are you afraid of? We're responding to the government's call to promote health and hygiene!"

Her hands, gripping the flyer, were sweating, soaking the edges of the paper.

As he spoke, he grabbed her arm as if to give her courage and said, "What are you afraid of? Once the police station finishes posting the notice, we'll put this up next door!"

She quickly flipped open the flyer and pointed to the big red words "Care for Health and Hygiene" on it. "Just stick it next to it like this, make sure it fits perfectly, and then start beating the gong and singing!"

As she was speaking, Xiao Zhang from the police station came riding over on a 28-inch bicycle. Li Guifang gritted her teeth and suddenly rushed out, frightening the police officer so much that he almost smeared the notice on his own face.

"Auntie, what are you doing..." Xiao Zhang held the handlebars and stared.

Li Guifang grinned and said, "Comrade, you've worked hard!"

She glanced at the notice board and asked, "Um... need any help?"

Xiao Zhang looked at her suspiciously and was about to stick it on slowly.

"Please post it right!"

Li Guifang stretched her neck to give orders, watching as the "Notice on the Handling of the Dispute between Li Mingyu and Wang Shanshan" was neatly posted in the center of the bulletin board.

As soon as the policeman walked away, she slapped the pink flyer aside. The two pieces of paper were stuck together so firmly, just like the Spring Festival couplets, pasted straight and straight!

Seeing that Li Guifang was done, Xie Dalaba immediately opened her signature loud voice and shouted, "Hey, hey! Fresh announcement! Everyone, come and see the excitement!"

After shouting, she rushed to the street where Wang's family lived as if she was on a whirlwind. Last night they had a clear division of labor, one was in charge of the east end and the other was in charge of the west end.

Xie Dazui promoted it everywhere and it really attracted a lot of people!

People buying groceries, walking their birds, and brushing their teeth at the door all gathered around.

Every time these flyers are posted on the bulletin board, it’s a novelty when they’re first put up. Now the content is almost the same, and not many people read them.

Now that they hear it's new, they all rush over to take a look.

At this moment, someone with sharp eyes noticed something and said, "Hey, why is the police station notice posted on our street?"

As soon as these words were spoken, the crowd exploded with excitement.

"What, from the police station? Teacher Zhang, you're educated, so hurry up and read it to us!"

The crowd took the initiative to push Teacher Zhang, the white-haired old scholar, to the front.

The old man named Mr. Zhang adjusted his reading glasses, his nose almost touching the paper: "It really is stamped with a red stamp.

This is about the incident between Li Mingyu and Wang Shanshan. The child in Wang Shanshan's belly is not Li Mingyu's.

After reading it, Teacher Zhang gave everyone a brief summary.

If you mention something like sexual dysfunction, it will be automatically blocked. If you mention it, it will bring shame to the intellectuals!

These words were like pouring a bucket of cold water into a frying pan, causing it to explode with a crackling sound.

"I said it must be a misunderstanding. Mingyu has grown up right under my nose!"

Aunt Liu, who was getting her hair permed, curled her lips and said, "Who knows if it's a cover-up? The hospital is..."

"That's right, how do you know it's not her? The baby's still in the belly, how can you check?"

"Wang Shanshan is the only one who knows about this!"

When Li Guifang heard that something was wrong, she immediately jumped out from under the wall.

He rushed to the front of the crowd in two steps: "Hey, sister Liu, what are you saying? It seems that the official document from the police station is not as authentic as your hair perm?"

She ripped the medical checklist off the bulletin board. "It's written in black and white on paper, stamped with a red seal. Even the hospital's lab reports are posted here, and you're still chewing on maggots?"

Aunt Liu was so embarrassed by the criticism that she dropped the tongs in her hand to the ground with a thud: "I, I'm not afraid..."

Li Guifang didn't waste her time talking to him! She picked up a wooden stick she had gotten from somewhere and banged on the checklist: "Those who can read, read it to me!"

It says here that Mingyu is unable to have sexual intercourse due to a physiological problem - phimosis, right?

Spit splashed in the morning light.

I sprayed the faces of the old ladies who were gossiping in the front!

"It's actually written! It's here!"

Another young man in the crowd pointed and went through the checklist on the notice in full!

The crowd was in an uproar again!

Immediately, some people made a few "tsk tsk tsk" sounds, and it turned out that the Wang family was simply being shameless!
