But she didn’t know that someone she knew had already gone to the Jing City they were talking about!!!
Li Yaqin and her lover Gao Zhiqiang took a green train for a day and a night and finally arrived in Beijing.
She was wearing newly permed "big waves", small leather shoes, and carrying a faux leather suitcase.
As soon as you leave the station, bicycles come like a tide, and the jingling sounds of bells come one after another.
There were crowds of people wearing "Di Ka" Zhongshan suits, high heels, and pushing "Forever Phoenix" bicycles.
In the distance, several tall buildings stood on the horizon, and the glass windows reflected the dazzling sunlight, making her squint.
Gao Zhiqiang, wearing a wrinkled suit over a polyester shirt, put his arm around her waist and said, "See? This is what a big city is!"
Follow me from now on and you will have a good life! Tomorrow I will get you a Kun car, a Phoenix!
"Why is this building so tall?" Lin Yaqin asked half in surprise and half in flattery!
Gao Zhiqiang scoffed, puffing out smoke rings triumphantly. "This is just the beginning! I'll take you to see the real 'big scene'!"
Gao Zhiqiang dragged Lin Yaqin onto the No. 101 tram. The conductor yelled, "Please buy a ticket! Ten cents per person!"
The tram was shaking with a clanging sound. Lin Yaqin held on to the handrail tightly, her eyes glued to the window.
The cars on Chang'an Avenue! The black "Shanghai", the green "Jeep", and occasionally a shiny "Volga", so majestic.
Along the wide road, there are department stores, Xinhua Bookstore, and grocery stores... In the glass windows are displayed "Feiyue" sneakers, "Mudan" radios, and "Snowflake" coats that she has only seen in movies.
The big loudspeakers on the roadside are playing pop music from Hong Kong!
Lin Yaqin looked at the people on the street wearing bell-bottom pants and floral shirts. Their spirit was completely different from those timid bumpkins in Ji City.
She walks with the wind, and her trouser legs swing more happily than the braids of the girls in Ji City. You can't learn that kind of boldness even if you throw all the clothes from the Ji City Department Store on your body!
Lin Yaqin once again cheered for her decision to come to Beijing!
Gao Zhiqiang seized the opportunity, leaned his elbows on the edge of the seat, and said nonchalantly, "Did you see that black car? The one with the license plate starting with '京A-8'."
Lin Yaqin nodded quickly.
"That's Director Wang's special car from the Transportation Bureau!" He lowered his voice deliberately. "I had dinner with him at the Yingbin Building last month.
I even drank two bottles of Moutai, and that wine was just average. I'll take you to try some foreign brandy someday, that would be awesome!"
A middle-aged man in a plaid shirt next to him couldn't help but look at him sideways. Where did this strong guy come from?!
Gao Zhiqiang became even more cocky, and opened the black leather bag with a "snap", revealing a stack of "Great Unity" notes tied with rubber bands and several colorful "Foreign Exchange Coupons".
"See? This is the coupon!" He pulled out a coupon and waved it in front of Lin Yaqin, pointing to the store outside the window. "It's only for the Friendship Store! If you don't have connections, you can't exchange it even if you have money!"
Lin Yaqin swallowed her saliva, wanting to touch it but not daring to.
The tram screeched to a stop, and an old lady wearing a red armband arrived. Gao Zhiqiang immediately closed his bag and whispered in Lin Yaqin's ear:
"This old lady, from the neighborhood office! She wanted to introduce me to someone last time, but I said no, I already have Yaqin!"
Lin Yaqin lowered her head in shame and snuggled into his arms. The smell of cold cream mixed with sweat went straight into Gao Zhiqiang's nose.
I didn't notice that the old lady didn't even glance over here!
"Later, I'll take you to eat some proper Beijing cuisine. It's eight hundred times better than that crappy state-owned restaurant in Ji City!"
Gao Zhiqiang kept bragging as if Beijing was his. His pride made the several real Beijing men standing around him so embarrassed that they had to pull out several courtyard houses from the car.
Fortunately, when the tram squeaked to a stop at the East Station, Gao Zhiqiang pulled Lin Yaqin off the bus and spared the ears of these people!
Passing by an old lady selling popsicles, he took out five cents and said, "Give me a popsicle!"
He tore off the popsicle wrapper and stuffed it directly into Lin Yaqin's mouth: "Try it, it's a time-honored brand in Beijing!"
After turning two alleys, he suddenly stopped in front of a gray courtyard gate.
Lin Yaqin looked up and saw "Weimin Restaurant" written crookedly on the faded red paper.
Gao Zhiqiang slammed the paint-chipped door open and said, "Master Wang! We have a distinguished guest today, so bring out your signature dishes and let them air out!"
Gao Zhiqiang lifted the greasy plastic door curtain and said, "Don't be fooled by the shabby facade. Chef Wang, the chef, has cooked for high-ranking officials before!"
There were four paint-chip tables in the room, and a few bags of damp flour piled in the corner.
The old man in the sweatshirt was squatting at the door picking leeks. When he saw Gao Zhiqiang come in, he didn't even raise his eyelids and asked, "Three old things?"
"Of course!" Gao Zhiqiang pulled Lin Yaqin to sit on the bench and wiped the oil stains on the table with newspaper.
"When sautéing liver tips, add more wood ear mushrooms, and choose the fattest large intestines!"
Turning around, he winked at Lin Yaqin and said, "The chefs here are from the palace, so their cooking skills are incredible! If you're not an acquaintance, you can't even eat this!"
He didn't notice at all that there was a "bang" in the kitchen and an old man in a dirty apron was complaining: "It's that liar again. He still hasn't paid me the three dollars and forty cents he owed last time..."
When the dishes arrived, Gao Zhiqiang placed a piece of black liver tip in Lin Yaqin's bowl and said, "Try it! This cooking skill is definitely one of the best in Beijing!"
Lin Yaqin stared at the black and bloody pork liver in the bowl and thought it was a specialty of Jing City.
When the plate of shiny large intestines was served, Lin Yaqin watched Gao Zhiqiang pick up a trembling piece of intestines, roll it three times in mashed garlic, and finally "pop" it into her bowl.
