"Mom, Mom, he's coming! Let's run!" Wang Chuntao said nervously, pulling Tao Ying along as they tried to run.
"Stop! You're acting suspiciously." Seeing the two trying to run away, the man sped up and stopped them.
When Wang Chuntao looked up, she found herself even uglier, and she couldn't help but feel like crying.
"Mom? Chuntao? What are you two doing here?" Wang Chunni followed over and was quite surprised to see Tao Ying and Wang Chuntao. Shouldn't these two be at the clothing store today?
"Mom? Hello, Auntie, hello, I'm Wang Chunni's high school classmate, my name is Yang Lin." Yang Lin was startled when he heard Wang Chunni's voice, not expecting that these two people were actually Wang Chunni's mother and sister.
"Mom, what are you two doing here?" Wang Chunni continued to look at the two of them, especially Chun Tao, whose eyes were full of guilt.
"You're still asking me? Let me ask you, tell me what happened?" Tao Ying asked, feigning composure.
When someone asks you a question and you don't know how to answer it, that's when you should ask a new question.
"Um, um, Mom, I...I..." Wang Chunni tugged at the hem of her clothes, calling out to Tao Ying somewhat embarrassedly.
"Auntie, my feelings for Chunni are genuine. I've liked Chunni since high school. Please allow me to pursue Chunni," Yang Lin said eagerly from the side.
"What nonsense are you talking about? I didn't agree to that. I'm here today to make things clear to you." Wang Chunni suddenly became agitated.
"I didn't say you had to agree right now. We're both single now, and I have the right to pursue you, Auntie. Please give me a chance!" Yang Lin said anxiously.
“It’s lunchtime, let’s go in and eat, we can talk while we eat.” Tao Ying glanced at her watch and then walked into the restaurant.
The three of them hurriedly followed them inside.
Tao Ying ordered a roast chicken and two lighter dishes. Yang Lin tried to pay but couldn't beat Tao Ying to it.
“Auntie, my family is simple. I live alone. I wanted to confess my feelings to Chunni back then, but my parents passed away one after another. I was also afraid of implicating Chunni, so I went to the army. Three years ago, the policy improved, and I wanted to find Chunni, only to find out that she was married. I had just been transferred back to the police station here. I never expected to run into Chunni like this.” Yang Lin spoke sincerely.
"Are you aware of Chunni's situation?" Tao Ying asked Yang Lin coldly.
“I know all of this. Chunni is divorced, she has a daughter, and her current job is with your family. Chunni’s salary will all go to the family, and she will have to observe mourning for two more years. I can accept all of this. Chunni may not be able to have any more children. I will treat Yangyang well and treat her like my own daughter.” Yang Lin quickly assured him.
“Auntie, I know I’m ugly and don’t have any parents to help me, but I’ve saved all my wages from the army and the subsidies I received after being demobilized. My unit also provided me with an apartment. I can afford to pay three turns and a radio, and five thousand yuan as a bride price.” Yang Lin immediately promised.
Tao Ying did not answer Yang Lin's question, but looked at Wang Chunni, who was blushing slightly.
This girl clearly took it to heart.
“I won’t interfere too much with Chunni’er’s marriage, but she has a daughter, so this matter needs Yangyang’s consent,” Tao Ying said, looking at the two of them.
"Mom, what are you saying? I can't hold Yang Lin back. I'm fine the way I am," Wang Chunni said somewhat flusteredly.
"I already said I don't care. As long as Yangyang agrees, I have no objection," Tao Ying said, looking at the two of them.
Wang Chuntao quickly and quietly went over to serve the dishes.
After the dishes were served, Tao Ying first gave Wang Chuntao a large chicken leg.
Wang Chuntao blushed slightly as she accepted the chicken leg, then silently ate her rice without saying a word.
Tao Ying had met quite a few soldiers, and Yang Lin's demeanor didn't seem fake. If Yang Lin really was a police officer at the local police station and a former soldier, then Chunni couldn't possibly meet those criteria.
"Mom~" Wang Chunni felt her cheeks burning.
Yang Lin saw that the three of them were eating silently without daring to speak or pick up any meat, so he quietly picked up a few pieces of green vegetables.
“We three don’t eat people, why are we so afraid?” Tao Ying glanced at Yang Lin.
Yang Lin immediately fell silent, and dared not move the chopsticks in his hand.
Tao Ying sighed and said nothing more.
After dinner, Tao Ying took Wang Chunni home.
Yang Lin stood behind and watched longingly.
On the way home, Tao Ying didn't say a word and just walked silently. Wang Chuntao pushed her bicycle and didn't dare to speak either, making Wang Chunni very uneasy.
"Mom, don't be angry. I was wrong, I was wrong, okay?" Wang Chunni mustered up her courage and apologized to Tao Ying in a low voice.
"You did nothing wrong, why are you apologizing? How much do you really know about Yang Lin? Did he really like you back in high school?" Tao Ying asked, her heart softening when she saw Wang Chunni's expression.
"I haven't paid attention to whether anyone likes me or not," Wang Chunni said softly.
"I didn't know many of my classmates in high school, and things were quite chaotic back then," Wang Chunni explained quietly after being glared at by Tao Ying.
"So how did you meet this time? How did he pursue you?" Tao Ying sighed.
“We just happened to run into each other that day. He called my name, and I remembered him a little. He always spoke up for me in high school, and he was also quite distinctive in appearance, with very white teeth. We became acquainted after a while…” Wang Chunni said nervously.
"Then what was all that he was saying today?" Tao Ying was speechless upon hearing Wang Chunni's words.
I suddenly realized that Yang Lin's statement that he liked Chunni back in high school is probably true. However, my own Chunni probably hadn't realized it yet back then.
"He suddenly confessed his feelings to me about two weeks ago. I told him about my situation, that I was divorced, had a child, and might not be able to have any more children. I also had to observe three years of mourning for my father. I also talked about my salary. I really rejected him. But he said he already knew I was married, and that his salary could support me and Yangyang." Wang Chunni explained in a low voice.
"Are you tempted? I want to hear the truth," Tao Ying emphasized again.
“He’s a good catch,” Wang Chunni said softly.
"Was this the reason you chose to marry Li Aijun?" Tao Ying suddenly looked at Wang Chunni seriously.
"Mom?" Wang Chunni was startled by Tao Ying.
"Do you think Yang Lin is the best partner you can find right now, and he can accept your family and Yangyang, right?" Tao Ying asked Wang Chunni.
"Isn't this enough?" Wang Chunni didn't understand what made her mother suddenly angry.
"How can this be? Is this all there is to marriage in your eyes?" Tao Ying asked, looking at Wang Chunni.
