Chapter Twenty Cao Aihua

The gatekeeper escorted Tao Ying and Wang Chunni to the personnel director's office for their tickets.

"Director Zhang, Wang Dazhu's wife is here." The gatekeeper knocked on the door and said he was leaving immediately.

"Sister-in-law, come in and sit down. This is..."

Director Zhang is a middle-aged man in his early forties, slightly overweight with a beer belly. He has a pair of dimples on his face, and when he speaks, he gives people a feeling of approachability with a smile on his face.

"Director Zhang, this is my eldest daughter, Wang Chunni. My daughter's boyfriend had an improper relationship with someone else, and they got divorced. The factory promised to give us a job. Do you think you could give it to my eldest daughter? As long as she's capable, that's fine." Tao Ying looked at Director Zhang with a pleading expression, wiping her eyes with her sleeve, and tears instantly streamed down her face.

“Sister-in-law, the factory bears some responsibility for Wang Dazhu’s situation. We also know a bit about your family’s circumstances. We originally thought it would be your second son who would come, so we prepared a job for him in the machine repair class, which is not suitable for a woman.” Director Zhang sighed, not expecting Wang Dazhu’s family situation to be so complicated.

It's true what they say, a rope always breaks at its thinnest point, and misfortune always finds its way to those who are unfortunate.

"Director, my daughter graduated from high school. She has a good personality, so I'd appreciate it if you could help her find an easier job. She came back after suffering a lot, and she can't do physical labor. Otherwise, you could give me a smaller amount of the compensation you promised." Tao Ying continued to play the victim.

Wang Chunni felt very uncomfortable listening to this; her mother had sacrificed so much for her.

“Sister-in-law, we do have a pretty good job here, but it’s a bit…” Director Zhang was moved by Tao Ying’s deep maternal love.

In this day and age, there are very few families with several children who would treat their daughters this well.

"What kind of job?" Tao Ying looked at Director Zhang, signaling him to explain in detail.

"We're short-staffed in this factory. We're such a big factory, and we only have three accountants: a director, a deputy director, and the deputy director's apprentice. The director's surname is Cao, and she's 47 years old this year. Her skills are top-notch. But her temper is also terrible. She's found no fewer than ten apprentices for her, but none of them have been able to work for more than half a month."

Director Zhang sighed, then continued, "If my niece can stay by Sister Cao's side, she will learn her skills and her salary will be higher than that of other regular employees. How about forty-three a month now?"

The main reason is that Wang Chunni has a gentle personality and doesn't seem like the type to fight with Accountant Cao.

Also, Wang Chunni looks like she's been abused; what if Accountant Cao feels a little pity for her?

Tao Ying and Wang Chunni exchanged a glance. Tao Ying's salary was only thirty-eight or thirty-five, while Wang Dazhu's monthly salary was ninety-two when he was alive.

I didn't expect to be given forty-three yuan so soon after starting the job.

Moreover, being an accountant wasn't something anyone could just do; it was an era where apprenticeships were based on mentorship.

"Director Zhang, thank you for your kind words, but my Chunni..." Tao Ying was worried that Wang Chunni hadn't recovered yet.

What if I suffer from workplace bullying and end up depressed?

"Director Zhang, I'd like to try out for this position." Before Tao Ying could finish speaking, Wang Chunni interrupted her and said directly.

Wang Chunni understood what her mother meant and was afraid that she would get hurt again.

But Wang Chunni didn't want to hide behind her mother forever.

My mother is just an old lady; she can only protect me for a few more years. I am in my prime; what can't I shoulder? It's my turn to stand up for myself.

Wang Chunni didn't really take what Director Zhang said to heart.

Even if they're difficult to get along with, there's always Li Aijun's mother who's difficult to get along with.

"Director Zhang, our Chunni was thinking of going to night school, but she didn't know which major to choose before. Now she understands." Tao Ying glanced at Wang Chunni, trying to salvage the situation.

Wang Chunni is just too gentle and too kind; such a personality can easily lead to her suffering great losses.

"?!?!" Wang Chunni turned her head and looked at Tao Ying in shock.

I think Mom's gone mad. How can you just make up something like night school? When did night school even exist?

"Wang Chunni is truly a hardworking and promising comrade. I'll take you to find Sister Cao now." Director Zhang looked at Wang Chunni with eyes full of affection.

"Thank you, Director Zhang." Tao Ying quickly thanked him, then pulled the still somewhat dazed Wang Chunni along with her.

"Mom~" Wang Chunni called out a little shyly.

Director Zhang took the two directly to the accounting office.

Because Cao Aihua and the deputy director did not get along well, they each had their own office.

The work is all pre-assigned, with one person in charge of two workshops.

"Sister Cao, I've brought you an apprentice. She's Wang Dazhu's daughter. Do you like her?" Director Zhang took a deep breath before entering Cao Aihua's office.

Cao Aihua was doing the accounts, the abacus clicking away rapidly. Hearing Director Zhang's words, she didn't even lift her eyelids, continuing her calculations.

Director Zhang didn't feel embarrassed at all, and invited Tao Ying and Wang Chunni to sit down and wait.

After waiting for more than twenty minutes, Cao Aihua finally put down her abacus and looked at the group.

"Girl..."

“I’m older than you, who am I calling ‘sister’?” Cao Aihua interrupted Tao Ying, successfully shutting down any further flattery.

Cao Aihua hates all this superficial stuff.

"Really? You really don't look it. Director Cao, you're so young." Tao Ying didn't feel embarrassed at all.

Capable people all have tempers.

"Stop, I don't want to hear this nonsense. What's your educational background? Have you done any related work before?" Cao Aihua hates people like Tao Ying who talk endlessly.

He likes to flatter people all the time, and his words are never reliable.

Tao Ying “…”

Since they were short-staffed and couldn't handle the work, and since Director Zhang had introduced someone, Cao Aihua couldn't just fire that person.

Whether or not Cao Aihua can hold on to the job is not her concern.

Cao Aihua has never tolerated any wrongdoing.

"Teacher Cao, I graduated from high school and have always lived in the countryside. I've never done accounting work before." Wang Chunni was extremely nervous.

"Stay for a while, whether you want to continue or not is up to you," Cao Aihua said, then sat back down and continued doing the accounting.

I don't want to waste my time on useless people.

Wang Chunni glanced at Tao Ying, and then the mother and daughter looked at Director Zhang at the same time.

"Director Cao, then I'll take Wang Chunni to complete her onboarding process first," Director Zhang said softly, touching his nose.

No one answered, but Director Zhang didn't mind at all and beckoned Tao Ying and Wang Chunni to go out together.

"Director Zhang, didn't you say you changed ten people?" Tao Ying asked Director Zhang in a low voice after they left.

"Director Cao has a strange temper; no one can stand her. Comrade Wang Chunni, try to adapt here first. If you can't stand it, I'll transfer you to a logistics position. In short, you can't get away with this job." Director Zhang really didn't want to face Cao Aihua.

"Thank you, Uncle Zhang. I will definitely cherish this job." Wang Chunni's eyes were very firm.
