The principal is a kind old man named Jie Jishan. He has been the principal of Jinning High School for more than ten years.
He had also heard about Zhou Zhuo's story and had felt sorry for him for a long time. But when he saw that he wanted to come back, he immediately nodded in agreement: "Of course, our school welcomes outstanding students like you. We hope that you will continue to work hard this year and strive to get into your ideal university."
"Thank you, Principal. I have another matter I'd like to ask for your help. A friend of mine also wants to enroll at Jinning High School. What procedures are required?"
Xie Jishan smiled and asked, "Where did your friend go to school before, and how were his grades?"
After the resumption of the college entrance examination in 1979, Jining High School attached great importance to teaching quality. Principal Xie tried his best to cultivate several college students, so he had to understand the students' situation before deciding whether to accept them.
He doesn't want poor students.
"She dropped out of school because her family was too poor to afford it. Now she's doing some small business to support her family. But I have a good relationship with her and can help her review. Principal, please give her a chance."
Zhou Zhuo spoke very urgently, fearing that the principal would disagree.
Principal Xie pushed his glasses up on his nose and said, "It's great that your friend is ambitious, but not everyone can get into Jinning High School. If your friend really wants to repeat a grade, he can only get in if he passes the exam."
The principal's first sentence made him feel cold, but he didn't expect the second half of the sentence would give him room for reversal. He happily bowed to the old man and said, "Thank you, principal!"
"Regarding the specific examination matters, please take care of the arrangements, Old Yue."
Coming out of the principal's office, Yue Lining said, "You can come to school anytime. As for your friend, have her come over for the exam next Monday."
"Okay, thank you, Teacher Yue! I'll come to school with her on Monday to register!"
On the way back, Zhou Zhuo was in a good mood and rode his bike very fast. He wanted to go back quickly to help his wife with her homework so that she would not fail the exam.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he entered the house, he saw Lin Qingqing prepared a large stack of review materials. She pointed at the materials and said to him, "Zhou Zhuo, these are for tutoring your homework."
Zhou Zhuo felt warm at heart when he saw his wife caring so much about his affairs. He walked over and flipped through the information. Seeing that it was all very valuable, he asked in a gentle voice, "Where did you borrow these materials? How did you know they would be useful for the college entrance examination?"
"Doesn't Wei Xiaobao work at the Xinhua Bookstore? I went with her to the bookstore after I closed my stall this afternoon. The book was recommended to me by her colleague at the bookstore."
Zhou Zhuo was a head taller than her, and her round little head was right under his eyelids, like a pretty little ball. He really wanted to reach out and touch it, but he was afraid of scaring her, so he suppressed the urge.
He now regrets confessing too early, which resulted in all his previous benefits being cancelled.
When he was in a bad state of mind, he could hold hands and hug at will, but now he has to keep his distance at all times.
He once had a golden opportunity before him, but he didn't take it. If God could give him another chance, he would continue to play dumb. If he had to set a time limit for playing dumb, he would hope it would be ten thousand years!
"I went to the school in the afternoon and told the principal that we wanted to repeat the year. He said if you want to enter Jinning High School, you must pass the exam first.
So from today on, you have to put some of your attention into studying. It's okay to be uneducated; I'll teach you, and you'll definitely be able to do it."
