Chapter 35 Buying Rice

If I buy 20 kilograms of rice, Sister Ruihong will definitely agree to trade the cart to her family.

Lin Qingqing walked up to the rice seller and asked, "Sister-in-law, how much is the rice?"

The rice seller was a shrewd woman in her thirties. She grabbed a handful of rice and shook it, "Fifty cents a pound. Look at this rice! It's so good."

"The rice is good, but it's only 1.4 yuan at the grain and oil store. You're charging too much for 50 yuan."

"This is pearl rice. Each grain is plump and will make you rice that is fragrant and sticky."

"How many pounds do you weigh in total?"

"Forty pounds." The woman whispered.

"How about 40 cents? I want them all."

"What?" The woman selling rice probably had never met such a generous buyer and thought she had misheard.

"I said 40 cents, I'll take care of it all."

"You must be kidding! Even if it's 40 cents a pound, 40 pounds of rice will cost 16 yuan. Do you have that much money?"

Normally, only families with mothers in confinement would be willing to buy one or two kilograms of porridge for the new mother, but I didn’t expect this girl to ask for forty kilograms. Sixteen yuan is half a month’s salary for a regular worker!

"As long as you sell, I have money to buy."

"Okay, I'll do this business." The rice seller knew how to calculate. Even though she might make a dime less per kilogram this time, it would normally take her ten days to sell 40 kilograms of rice. Now, what would take ten days can be done in one day. Why not? She could just use the money to start another business!

Lin Qingqing earned thirty-six yuan today, which was more than enough to buy rice. She planned to give twenty kilograms to Sister Ruihong and keep twenty kilograms for herself.

The rice seller carried the rice on her shoulders and delivered it directly to her on the cart. Lin Qingqing took out sixteen yuan and gave it to her.

After buying rice, the two went home.

It was already dark when they got home. Xue Guixiang was anxiously looking out the door. She was relieved when she saw them come back: "Finally, I see someone."

Lin Qingqing suddenly felt a warm current. It felt so good to have someone waiting for her at home.

She got out of the car and walked inside affectionately holding Xue Guixiang's arm: "Mom, Zhou Zhuo and I went to buy rice, so we came back a little late."

"Buy rice?" Xue Guixiang was surprised. Rice was definitely a luxury item in his family. How could his daughter-in-law spend money so much?

"Mom, I bought 40 kilograms of rice. Don't feel bad about it. Listen to my thoughts."

When Xue Guixiang heard that her daughter-in-law bought 40 kilograms of rice, her heart was trembling with pain, but her daughter-in-law said she had her own ideas, so of course she couldn't say anything.

"Well, we borrowed Sister Ruihong's cart. I heard you say she bought a new ox cart, so this cart is probably no longer in use. So I thought of exchanging 20 kilograms of rice for her cart. What do you think?"

Xue Guixiang naturally had no objection to exchanging rice for a cart: "Of course, we can't just use someone else's cart for free. We should exchange it for 20 kilograms of rice."

"I bought the remaining 20 kilograms for our family. We drink cornmeal porridge every day. Not to mention that you can't handle it, I can't handle it either. You can't just watch Zhou Zhuo and I starve." Lin Qingqing said in a coquettish tone;

"How can that be?" Xue Guixiang was quickly persuaded by her daughter-in-law and happily accepted the idea of buying rice.

Although she was honest, she was open-minded. She thought that her daughter-in-law earned her own money, so why should she restrict her from spending it? She didn't want to be a meddlesome mother-in-law who would meddle in everything. She wouldn't even be able to control her when she bought rice, let alone when she had to cut meat!

Poor Xue Guixiang didn't know that she had wasted two pounds of meat that day. If she knew, she would probably faint from the heartache again.

Ah, I woke up to find several more gifts. Thank you for your support, my lovely friends. I love you.
