Chapter 66 This, the Quilt

"Then I'll go find her tomorrow and tell her about this."

After the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law discussed the matter, they started to eat dinner.

The food at home has been much better recently. Lin Qingqing goes to the black market to buy pork every five days, buying two or three pounds each time. Xue Guixiang cooks it and marinates it with salt, which is enough for the family to eat for several days.

Xue Guixiang eats well, her complexion looks good, she is stronger than before, and has more energy to work.

Today she made pork stewed with vermicelli. There were autumn eggplants in the field, which she cut into large pieces and stewed with the pork. She roasted some steamed buns around the pot. When the pork was stewed, the steamed buns were also roasted to a golden brown, and a delicious iron pot stew was ready.

Xue Guixiang put the pork vermicelli into a bowl and sprinkled some green onions on it. The three of them sat around the small table and ate with relish.

"Mom, you are such a great cook, and the food you make is so delicious." Lin Qingqing praised sincerely.

Xue Guixiang smiled sheepishly, "Actually, I really like cooking, but my family was poor before, and just having enough to eat was good enough. I didn't have the means to cook in different ways."

"I will make more money in the future and make our family live a better life." Lin Qingqing thought about letting her mother-in-law open a small restaurant in the future. She is very clever and the dishes she cooks will definitely appeal to the public.

But it’s a bit early to consider this now, after all, she hasn’t accumulated enough funds.

After dinner, Xue Guixiang brought out a brand new quilt from her room. The quilt was embroidered with auspicious dragons and phoenixes, and the patterns were very festive.

Because the family was too poor, Lin Qingqing covered herself with a torn quilt that let the cotton show through when she got married. Fortunately, the weather was still hot at that time, so it didn't matter if she covered herself with less.

"Qingqing, the weather is going to be cold soon. I went to the village to exchange some cotton and made a new quilt for you. You can cover yourself with this new quilt tonight."

As Xue Guixiang said this, she carried the quilt to their room and took down the old quilt.

"Thank you, Mom." Lin Qingqing said happily as she looked at the fluttering new floral quilt.

She took out the cloth she had bought at the department store today and showed it to Xue Guixiang: "Mom, do you think this cloth is good?"

Xue Guixiang only felt pain in her flesh, but she endured the pain and said, "Okay..."

"I just bought this today. Take them both. I'll make Zhou Zhuo a new pair of pants with this dark blue one, and I'll make you a shirt with this maroon corduroy. What do you think?"

There are very few tailor shops nowadays, and villagers make their own clothes.

Not very good. Xue Guixiang was reluctant to let it go.

She has never been picky about her clothes. The clothes she wears were bought the year she got married. They are almost twenty years old and have many patches on them, but she has never been willing to throw them away.

"I'll let you wear it. I don't go out, so why would I need to wear such nice clothes?"

"I think it's too tacky. If you don't want to wear it, I'll give it to someone else."

Xue Guixiang's flesh suddenly ached again. Her daughter-in-law was good in every way except that she was too wasteful. How could she just give away such fine cloth? "Well, I'd better keep it. It's not easy to save money at home."

Lin Qingqing couldn't help but smile secretly when she saw her face full of heartache and regret.

After finishing the business, Xue Guixiang went out with two pieces of cloth. The young couple must be tired after running around all day, so she would not be so tactless as to disturb their sleep.

Lin Qingqing looked at the large, new quilt and suddenly felt something was wrong. She and Zhou Zhuo had each used an old quilt before, and they didn't disturb each other when they slept, but her mother-in-law had made them a double quilt. Was she going to let them sleep in the same bed? Oh my god!
