Upon meeting Xu Xinchen's displeased gaze, the salesperson tactfully handed the US dollar bill that William had given him back to William, while saying something to him.
"Sir, I'm very sorry, but if you want to pay the bill, please ask for this lady's consent first. If she doesn't agree, I can't take your money."
William heard what the salesperson said, but he didn't say anything to make things difficult for the salesperson. He understood what the salesperson meant, after all, that's what salespeople do.
If this matter upsets a customer, the salesperson is very likely to be complained about. Although he may not be a particularly conscientious person, he wouldn't stoop to harming a lowly salesperson.
Turning to face Xu Xinchen, William opened his mouth slightly, wanting to speak, but Xu Xinchen didn't give him the chance at all, and directly interrupted him.
“Mr. William, I don’t know what your purpose is in wanting to pay for me, but I can afford it myself, so please take your money back.”
William's brows furrowed slightly, and a hint of displeasure flashed in his blue eyes, but he quickly suppressed that small emotion and replaced it with a look of disappointment.
“Ms. Lu, I’m sorry. I just wanted to apologize for my previous rash actions. If this makes you unhappy, then I apologize.”
From the moment Xu Xinchen met William yesterday until now, she still doesn't know what William has said to her.
She apologized so many times; she was so tired of hearing it.
Moreover, Xu Xinchen has her own principles regarding this matter. She and William have only met twice today, and they only met because of her boyfriend. Apart from that, they have no interaction whatsoever.
The two people's relationship was not good enough for her to pay for the other's meals. In addition, she had a boyfriend and asked a stranger she had only known for two days to pay for her meals. What should her boyfriend do?
Thinking of this, Xu Xinchen's expression became firm: "Thank you for your kindness, Mr. William. Please don't blame yourself for what you did. I really don't blame you anymore. As for the cost of this dress, I'll pay for it myself."
William's face showed a blank expression again, and he said to Xu Xinchen in a very sincere manner, "I'm sorry, I really don't understand. I just want to apologize."
Xu Xinchen gently rubbed her temples, feeling increasingly that she couldn't reason with William. She sighed helplessly, reached into her bag, took out a US dollar bill that she had already exchanged, and handed it to the salesperson.
"Hello, could you please pay for me? I'll use my money." Although Xu Xinchen felt very powerless when facing William, she was not the type to take her temper out on others, so she was still very polite to the salesperson.
"Okay, miss, please wait a moment, I'll get you the change right away."
Upon seeing Xu Xinchen's appearance, the salesperson quickly took the banknote from Xu Xinchen's hand, nodded to Xu Xinchen, and then went behind the counter.
Seeing that Xu Xinchen had already paid for the meal herself, William could only reluctantly put the $100 bill back into his pocket.
Xu Xinchen had no desire to continue arguing with William. She stood quietly in place, holding the bag of already packaged dresses, waiting for the salesperson to bring her the change.
But William, still unwilling to give up, continued to try and strike up a conversation with Xu Xinchen: "Ms. Lu, I wonder if Mr. Chen has mentioned anything to you about my collaboration with him..."
Xu Xinchen sighed softly, turned her head, and stared at William with a serious expression, saying, "Mr. William, please talk to him about the cooperation between the two of you. I don't handle his company's affairs, so I'm not clear about the matter between the two of you."
Seeing that Xu Xinchen was starting to get impatient with him, William gave a slight smile and chose not to continue the argument.
"Since that's the case, I'm sorry. I won't bother you any longer, Miss Lu. I hope you have a good time here."
Hearing what William said, Xu Xinchen finally breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, William finally realized he was leaving.
Now that William was no longer wasting his time on her, Xu Xinchen naturally stopped being cold and distant towards him like before.
Xu Xinchen waved gently to William and gave a slight smile: "Then I won't see Mr. William off. Mr. William, please go ahead."
Seeing Xu Xinchen's smiling face, William's face showed a strange expression again, and Xu Xinchen was momentarily stunned.
She immediately wiped the smile off her face.
Seeing this, William really didn't persist any longer. He simply said goodbye to Xu Xinchen and then turned and walked out.
Seeing that Mr. William had finally left, Xu Xinchen slowly let out a breath, and the pressure that had been weighing on her heart finally dissipated.
It's just that she looks a bit like his ex-wife, but William's attitude is really too much, making her start to worry.
I hope I can participate in the upcoming competitions safely and leave this place as soon as possible, so I never have to meet Mr. William again.
The salesperson worked at the counter for a long time before coming out with a large handful of coins. Xu Xinchen was stunned when she saw the pile of coins in the salesperson's hand.
"Why are there so many coins? Don't you have any paper money?"
The salesperson scratched his head somewhat awkwardly: "I'm very sorry, ma'am, we've run out of small denomination banknotes, so we only have coins."
Xu Xinchen looked at the coins, which must have weighed at least several ounces, and helplessly rubbed her temples. She then opened her bag and put the coins inside.
The salesperson breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Xu Xinchen didn't say anything about the coins: "Ma'am, let me help you."
