Just as Xu Xinchen was awkwardly about to leave, she heard the man opposite her suddenly speak, "I don't think I'm married to you yet."
Xu Xinchen looked up instantly and saw Chen Ningsheng's cold smile and slightly dark eyes, while Chen Bailing, who was opposite him, turned pale upon hearing these words.
Gu Yan seemed to have anticipated this situation, still wearing a strange smile. He didn't look at the two of them, but put his arm around Xu Xinchen's other shoulder, feeling the coolness on his fingertips. "Let's go inside."
The two left.
The two people left standing there, Chen Bailing's lips were white. She pleaded and shook Chen Ningsheng's sleeve, her big eyes wide open, looking at Chen Ningsheng pitifully, "Asheng, let's go in."
She muttered under her breath, "I misspoke just now, I won't do it again."
Before she could finish speaking, the man in front of her didn't even glance at her and walked inside.
Upon entering, she encountered many unfamiliar strangers. Gu Yan stayed by her side, introducing them to her one by one.
When Gu Yan's mother saw Xu Xinchen, a look of surprise flashed across her face. She rushed over, helped Xu Xinchen up, and asked with concern, "Is your foot alright?"
"It's alright, Auntie."
Mrs. Gu gave Gu Yan a reproachful look. "This child, you didn't even tell me you were injured. I only found out now. If I had known, I would have taken a doctor I knew to see you. You would have recovered faster and wouldn't have had to suffer so much."
Although Xu Xinchen's injury was serious at the time, two weeks have passed and the wound has long since healed.
His walking posture wasn't very agile.
She waved her hand, "Auntie, my wound has healed long ago. Please don't blame Gu Yan. I'm very grateful for his care during this time."
"Isn't it his duty to take care of her? If he doesn't take care of his own girlfriend, who will...?"
Before Mrs. Gu could finish speaking, a gasp came from behind her, "Auntie!"
Chen Bailing skipped past Xu Xinchen, jumped up and jumped into Gu's mother's arms, and hugged her tightly.
The force of her collision sent Gu's mother staggering back a few steps before she released her, touching her face and saying, "This child is so big now, why is she still so reckless?"
She looked behind her, "Ah Sheng, is your father feeling better?"
Chen Ningsheng shifted his gaze from the woman's feet and nodded slightly. "Much better."
When it was time to eat, the group sat down, and Xu Xinchen happened to be sitting at the same table as Chen Ningsheng.
Xu Xinchen sat down next to Gu Yan. Just as the two were talking, a figure flashed by and someone sat down on the stool next to them.
Xu Xinchen glanced at it out of the corner of her eye, and her heart skipped a beat.
Chen Ningsheng sat there alone, not saying a word. There was no one else around, making him seem particularly isolated and aloof.
Xu Xinchen suddenly became absent-minded. Before she could react, she heard Chen Bailing's displeased voice beside her, "Asheng, why are you sitting here? There are seats over there."
After a while, a deep, cool male voice sounded beside him.
"You can sit over there."
Chen Bailing reluctantly and slowly made her way to his side and sat down next to him.
After Gu's mother sat down, the dishes were served one after another. Gu Yan seemed to have gone crazy, putting a piece of each dish into her bowl with his chopsticks until her bowl was piled high and could not hold any more. She blushed and pressed his hand down, saying, "Stop putting more in my bowl, I can't finish it."
Mrs. Gu observed the two of them with a smile and sighed, "Ayan has finally grown up and knows how to care for others."
While the two were engaging in intimate interactions, the atmosphere was completely different between Chen Bailing and Chen Ningsheng. Chen Bailing looked on with aggrieved expression as Gu Yan carefully cared for Xu Xinchen, while Chen Ningsheng seemed to completely disregard her as his girlfriend, showing no concern for her whatsoever and simply drinking his wine silently by himself. She felt a little uneasy.
Half a bottle of wine was downed, and he reeked of alcohol. Even Gu's mother could smell it. She looked at Chen Ningsheng disapprovingly and said, "Asheng, don't drink so much. You'll feel unwell later."
Then he winked at Chen Bailing, "Bailing, try to persuade him."
Chen Bailing bit the food in her mouth, remaining silent, but her heart sank. Could she persuade him?
Chen Ningsheng drank alone, oblivious to everything else, and the bottle was already half empty.
Xu Xinchen absentmindedly picked up some food from the side.
Just as he finished his drink and was about to refill his glass, his hand was gently tugged.
His hands froze, his gaze fell to the small hand holding his under the table, and he heard her soft voice, "Don't drink anymore."
He remained silent for a moment, then, as if nothing had happened, poured himself another full glass.
Xu Xinchen caught a glimpse of his actions and her heart skipped a beat. In the end, she had been reckless and meddled in other people's business. What right did she have to interfere?
She was about to pull her hand back when suddenly someone grabbed it tightly from behind. She tried to pull her hand away, but couldn't.
Their hands were clasped tightly, and the warmth of their palms mingled.
Her heart suddenly started pounding. She turned to look at Gu Yan, who was engrossed in chatting with the person next to him, seemingly unaware of what was happening.
Meanwhile, Chen Bailing was joking with Gu's mother, and no one paid any attention to the two of them.
Under the table, his palms were slightly sweaty, wetting his hands, but he didn't let go.
Xu Xinchen tried to pull it out several times, but couldn't, so she just let it go.
He sipped his wine alone, not looking at her, his expression revealing nothing.
He didn't let go of her until the banquet ended, as if nothing had happened.
The banquet went on very late, and the guests had all left, but Xu Xinchen, Chen Bailing, and Chen Ningsheng were kept behind.
Xu Xinchen's room was arranged between Chen Ningsheng and Gu Yan. She had to keep smiling all day and socialize with strangers, which made her extremely tired.
I went back to my room, took a shower, and planned to go to sleep.
Before she could even lie down, a soft knock sounded at the door. She looked at the door wearily. Who could be looking for her so late at night?
She waited a while, but the knocking continued, showing the owner's persistence. She sighed and went downstairs to open the door.
As soon as the door opened, the person outside frowned.
Chen Ningsheng leaned against the door frame with his hands in his pockets. When he saw the pajamas she was wearing, his expression changed instantly.
"Who do you think is knocking on the door, coming out dressed like that to greet you?"
He strode forward, his eyes dark and menacing, and pressed for an answer.
Xu Xinchen hadn't even had time to react to his sudden visit when she heard his series of questions.
Before she could react, the man in front of her seemed to have grown impatient. He suddenly grabbed her hand tightly and pulled her out of the room. Xu Xinchen didn't even have time to gasp; her brain couldn't process it, but her body had no choice but to follow him.
"Chen Ningsheng, are you crazy?" she whispered.
The man in front of her remained silent. Chen Ningsheng strode confidently, pulling her out of the villa and down the steps. The moonlight was beautiful today, shining brightly on the small open space in front of the door. He led her straight through the garden to a motorcycle.
He led her onto the motorcycle, climbed on himself, wrapped his arms around her from behind, and held her in his arms while gripping the handlebars.
The roar of the large motorcycle was particularly loud in the night. Xu Xinchen bit her lip, lowered her head, and tried her best not to expose her face.
The car started and sped off like an arrow.
Through a small window on the second floor of the villa, behind the curtains, a pair of eyes silently watched the two of them, a mysterious smile playing on their lips.
Xu Xinchen was no longer struggling as before and was very calm. She probably realized that she would not get a response no matter what she said, so she simply enjoyed the scenery along the way.
The night breeze was cool and refreshing on her face. Xu Xinchen was enjoying a rare moment of peace and quiet when the car suddenly stopped on the side of the road.
Chen Ningsheng got out of the car and walked forward.
Xu Xinchen followed behind him the whole way.
After walking for a while, her view suddenly opened up, and the salty air rushed in. She looked up and saw a vast expanse of sea in front of her, with waves crashing against the beach and splashing water.
Under the moonlight, the scenery was as beautiful as a dream.
The man in front finally stopped. He squatted down and sat on the beach, facing the distant sea, leaving her with his broad back.
She walked silently over step by step, stepping into the sand and making holes in the sand, and sat down beside him.
The only sound was the splashing water against the shore; neither of them spoke.
