The next day, all the newspapers published Bai Hao's apology, in which he admitted that he was the one who had done it.
Bai Jing held a newspaper in her hand, her eyes fixed on it, her brows furrowing more and more tightly. "Sister, stop reading!" Bai Hao couldn't stand it anymore, walked over and snatched the newspaper from her hand.
"Ah Hao, how could this happen?" Bai Jing simply couldn't believe that his actions would be announced to the world like this.
Her fingers trembled with anger. "Didn't Mr. Chen promise to let you go?"
Then, a look of regret crossed her face. "It's all my fault! I shouldn't have let you go see him yesterday! I'll go see him right now!"
"Sister!" Bai Hao saw Bai Jing looking indignant and about to stand up for him, so he quickly pulled her back. His expression was calm. "It was my fault to begin with. I did it all, so I'll take the blame!"
Bai Jing's eyes instantly reddened upon hearing this. "Ah Hao, I know you've done something foolish, but now everyone knows about it. What about the school? What about your bright future? Will you be able to find a job?"
"Sister, I'll take care of these things later, don't worry," Bai Hao reassured her.
These attempts to comfort her had no effect whatsoever. Bai Jing's mood remained heavy, far from lightening. But she knew that things had come to this point, the newspapers had already published the story, and there was no point in saying anything more.
A few days later, just as Bai Jing had predicted, bad news came one after another. The worst news was that her spot for postgraduate recommendation had been canceled.
Bai Jing felt a heavy weight on her heart, and seeing her younger brother's forced smile made her heart ache even more.
Bai Hao seemed completely unaffected by the incident. "Sis, don't worry, I'll go out and find a job tomorrow to support myself."
"It's better that your spot was cancelled. My family needs money anyway, and I shouldn't continue my studies."
"What are you saying? With your sister here, you don't need to worry about money."
Bai Hao sighed. The next day, he secretly visited many companies and factories without Bai Jing's knowledge. As a graduate of a prestigious university, he should have been welcomed wherever he went, but Bai Hao repeatedly ran into obstacles. When people saw it was him, they couldn't help but show disdain.
"We don't need college students like you. You're dishonest and ungrateful. What's the use of being a good student? Learn to be a decent human being first!"
The manager of a factory said these words to his face without any hesitation.
These words were like pepper spray poured over his head, leaving Bai Hao feeling utterly ashamed and like a stray dog.
He hunched over and slowly walked to the bustling street, where he sat on the steps.
The boy sat dejectedly on the curb, hunched over, tears blurring his vision.
At first he only sobbed softly, but gradually he began to cry loudly, large tears falling onto the hem of his clothes.
In just one day, his self-esteem was trampled on time and time again. The contempt in other people's eyes deeply hurt him. He used to be the pride of the school, but now he was in such a sorry state.
Bai Hao was quiet for a while, then he wiped away his tears, rallied himself, and prepared to continue the interview. Just as he looked up, he saw a figure standing in front of him, which startled him.
"Mr. Bai, Mr. Chen is looking for you," the other party said.
Bai Hao's brows slowly furrowed.
Bai Hao followed the man into the office and saw Chen Ningsheng sitting at his desk as usual.
