Xu Xinchen turned pale upon hearing this. So that's how he saw her; he looked down on her too.
Suddenly, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms.
He lowered his head, slowly approached her earlobe, and whispered, "Come back with me tomorrow to meet my father, and then we'll get married."
Xu Xinchen ignored the chill he gave her and closed her eyes. "Did you ask for my opinion?"
"I'll drive myself tomorrow."
The next day, Chen Ningsheng drove himself, and she sat in the passenger seat, absentmindedly looking at the scenery on both sides. When they stopped at a traffic light, Chen Ningsheng turned his head to look at her and touched her small hand with one hand. "Don't worry, my father is not scary. He just wants to see you."
When they arrived at Chen Ningsheng's house, they were surprised to find Chen Bailing there, as if she had no prior knowledge of the situation.
She opened her big eyes apologetically and said, "Ah Sheng, I didn't know you were bringing Miss Lu along. I was planning to visit my uncle when I had some free time."
Chen Ningsheng interrupted impatiently, "I'm not blaming you."
He accompanied Xu Xinchen into the study, where tea had already been laid out in front of Chen Bohui, as if he had been waiting for a long time. Xu Xinchen politely greeted him, "Uncle."
Chen Bohui fixed his gaze on her face for a few seconds, then waved to Chen Ningsheng, "You can go down first. I need to have a few words with Miss Lu alone."
Chen Ningsheng hesitated for a few seconds before taking a step, then put his arm around her shoulder, planted a kiss on the corner of her lips, and reassured her, "Don't worry, I'm downstairs."
I'll be waiting for you.
He glanced at Chen Bohui and left.
As the door closed, Chen Bohui asked Xu Xinchen to sit opposite him and then personally poured her tea.
Xu Xinchen remained outwardly calm.
"What do Miss Lu's parents do?"
Xu Xinchen had anticipated this question and told the truth in detail, not wanting to hide anything.
Chen Bohui still wore the gentle smile of an elder, but his words were ruthless: "Give up on Asheng, it's impossible for you two."
Xu Xinchen immediately looked up at him.
She expected him to object, but she didn't expect him to be so direct; in fact, his attitude towards her just now could be described as friendly.
Xu Xinchen remained silent for a moment. The recent hot and cold relationship between the two of them had greatly diminished her confidence in this relationship. Now that his parents were so opposed, she simply didn't know if she had any reason to continue.
In Chen Bohui's eyes, this situation clearly indicated that she was unwilling.
He clapped his hands knowingly, and a person walked out from behind the screen.
"Min Shi!" The man was so excited when he saw her that he almost burst into tears.
Xu Xinchen turned around as if sensing something, and saw Lu Zhenjun walking out from behind the screen. She froze on the spot.
Lu Zhenjun rushed over and hugged her, his words tumbling out in a jumbled mess of emotion, "How could you just leave like that? You still have your father here! You left as soon as I got back!"
It's gone, leaving only a letter. How heartbroken I am! Where can I even find it?
Xu Xinchen let him hold her, still in a daze.
After a moment, she realized what was happening and grabbed his shoulders. "How did you get here?"
Lu Zhenjun was taken aback, then explained, "Someone came to me saying they could see you, so I followed him here."
Xu Xinchen has completely understood what's going on.
She comforted Lu Zhenjun for a few moments, and the two chatted for a while before Lu Zhenjun was taken away.
"Speak, what do you want?" Xu Xinchen asked directly as soon as the door closed, not intending to keep anyone in suspense.
Chen Bohui smiled and glanced at her, admiringly saying, "Miss Lu is indeed a smart person. You can't lose your father's job, can you?"
"Are you using this to blackmail me?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Bohui laughed twice. "How can this be blackmail? This is a deal. Take your father and exchange him for my son."
Xu Xinchen glanced past him and looked out the window for two seconds.
"make a deal!"
Chen Bohui was stunned by her straightforwardness. He hadn't expected her to make a decision so quickly, and he felt quite disdainful. It seemed that Asheng didn't hold any place in her heart.
Chen Ningsheng was extremely restless in the lobby. He was afraid that his father would make things difficult for her if he left her alone in the study.
Chen Bailing took a sip of tea and looked at him. "Asheng, stop pacing around. I'm getting dizzy. Sit down and have some tea."
Chen Ningsheng ignored him, his eyes fixed on the study upstairs through the corridor, as if trying to bore a hole through it.
It had been a while, but there was still no sound. Chen Ningsheng was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan. He couldn't help but take a step and plan to rush upstairs.
However, a sudden "Ah!" came from behind.
He turned around and saw Chen Bailing fall down the chair. He rushed over and caught her. "Bailing, what happened to you?"
Seeing that she was too weak to speak, he touched her forehead. "Did you skip breakfast again? Is it low blood sugar?"
He picked her up and carried her into the guest room, then called the family doctor.
When he came out, he saw his father coming downstairs. "Dad, where's Xiaoshi?"
He looked behind him, but there was no one there.
"She just came downstairs, didn't you see her?"
Chen Ningsheng froze. It took him a few seconds to react before he exclaimed inwardly, "Oh no!" She must have seen him when he was holding Chen Bailing.
Don't let her misunderstand.
He ran out of the villa, only to find that there wasn't a soul in sight.
The driver stepped forward and handed him a note. "Young master, a young lady just asked me to give this to you."
Chen Ningsheng hurriedly opened the note and saw several neat and beautiful characters: "Find me at the train station."
Chen Ningsheng sped at 300 km/h to the station, shortening what would normally be a half-hour journey by half.
The bustling crowds at the train station only added to his unease. Ignoring his anxiety, he hurriedly searched for her.
"Chen Ningsheng".
A clear, soft voice called to him.
He stopped and looked over, only to see Xu Xinchen looking at him with a smile.
He felt relieved and strode up to her, scolding, "Why did you come to a place like this?"
Glancing at her expression, he explained, "You must have misunderstood something. Chen Bailing just fainted due to low blood sugar. I carried her to the guest room and called a doctor."
"Mm." Xu Xinchen nodded slightly.
"Let's go." He smiled, grasped her hand with his fingers, and was about to take her hand.
Xu Xinchen withdrew her hand and put it behind her back.
His hand froze in mid-air when he heard her say, "Let's break up."
He slowly lowered his hand, placing it against his side, his five fingers clenched tightly, knuckles protruding, and veins bulging.
"Are you kidding me?" He stared intently at her, not missing a single expression on her face.
Xu Xinchen noticed that his breathing was unstable, so she repeated it again.
He grabbed her shoulder and held her tightly in his arms, as if he would never let go, almost squeezing all the air out of her chest.
"Let's go back and talk about it later." He suppressed his surging emotions.
"Chen Ningsheng, I've made up my mind. Let's break up."
Xu Xinchen's face was covered by his chest, and her voice was muffled, but Chen Ningsheng heard every word clearly.
He couldn't hold back any longer. He released her, grabbed her shoulders, and his face was contorted with hysterical rage. "Break up? Did you even ask my opinion?"
"And what about you?" Xu Xinchen's expression was calm, without the slightest ripple. "Did you ask for my opinion when you wanted to transfer to another position?"
He stared at her with his dark eyes for a few seconds, a self-deprecating smile playing on his lips. "So you're still angry about Zhou Qi. So that's the real reason you broke up with me."
