“I guessed,” he replied casually, picking up a piece of steak and putting it in his mouth.
Xu Xinchen didn't dwell on this issue any further.
Seeing that she didn't answer, he chuckled and continued his probing, "Has anyone ever told you that you're good at creating awkward silences?"
No, you're the first one.
"Really? But I certainly won't be the last one."
Xu Xinchen looked up and glared at him. This guy was really something, he wouldn't stop until he made someone angry.
Gu Fei seemed to have eyes in his head, knowing exactly what she was doing even with his head down. "Miss Lu, glaring at people all the time will make you ugly."
Even if you become ugly, you should still glare.
Gu Yan couldn't help but laugh when he heard her childish words.
"Miss Lu, are you a three-year-old? If you have a child in the future, you must let the father take care of him. Don't let him be spoiled."
Xu Xinchen was furious when she heard this and immediately retorted, "What are you worried about? I'm not going to have your baby."
As soon as she finished speaking, she realized something was wrong. Sure enough, she saw Gu Yan also looking up at her.
Their eyes met in mid-air, and they both saw awkwardness in each other's eyes.
The candlelight crackled and popped as she looked away, lowered her head slightly, and casually began cutting her steak.
But it seemed that gaze never left.
"Have you thought about what kind of father you want for your child?"
She heard him say that.
"A tall, rich, and handsome guy," she succinctly brushed off.
"Oh, what a coincidence, I fit all of those criteria."
Xu Xinchen paused, looked up at him, and he looked at her with a smile, unable to tell how much of what he had just said was true or false.
“There are plenty of people who meet the criteria…” she muttered to herself.
"That's true." He nodded understandingly. "Miss Lu is indeed very picky. Do you think she has to wait in a long line to pursue you?"
Xu Xinchen was amused and said, "No need for that."
"Anything else? Besides these conditions?"
He seemed very persistent about this question, constantly pressing for answers.
"You love me."
A simple and ordinary answer.
Gu Yan hadn't expected this.
His gaze fell on her face; she was completely focused on her steak, and in the flickering candlelight, her face appeared even whiter and brighter than usual.
Even from this distance, he could see her eyelashes fluttering like little fans, easily stirring one's heartstrings.
"Miss Lu, are you also lacking love? Isn't it enough that you love him?"
"wrong."
He heard her say that.
"I don't love him enough; he has to love me ten times more than I love him."
She tilted her head, her fair face full of seriousness.
Gu Yan's heart skipped a beat, and he saw her looking at him with great interest. "So? Interested in queuing up?"
Gu Yan's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, unable to fathom her thoughts. He silently watched her with his dark eyes, remaining expressionless. Then he saw her open her large, playful eyes, look at him, and burst into laughter. "Were you scared?"
"I know you're very picky, you want the best in terms of family background, education, and looks, and you wouldn't look down on someone like me."
Xu Xinchen waved his hand reassuringly, indicating that he didn't need to worry.
Gu Yan's eyes darkened slightly, and he lowered his gaze, pretending nothing had happened.
Soon the waiter brought out a rose cake. It was her 23rd birthday, and Gu Yan patiently lit the candles for her.
"Make a wish, whatever you want to make."
Gu Yan raised his chin in a gesture.
Xu Xinchen closed her eyes, clasped her hands in front of her chest, her cheeks were brightly lit by the candlelight, and her eyelashes were long and curled, making her look like a delicate porcelain doll.
Before she opened her eyes, he brazenly scrutinized her.
His gaze slid inch by inch across her face, from her high forehead to her slightly upturned lips.
Everything about her was tempting him; he was bewitched and couldn't tear his eyes away from her face.
Xu Xinchen smiled throughout, silently made her wish, opened her eyes, blew out the candles in one breath, looked up, and then suddenly...
She unexpectedly stumbled into his deep gaze.
His gaze was intense and deep, inexplicably making her feel uneasy.
She lowered her head shyly, when suddenly she heard his slightly hoarse voice enter her ears.
"Are you serious about what you just said? What if I want to wait in line?"
The candlelight flickered slightly, and the night had deepened.
Xu Xinchen's face was burning red, and she didn't know what kind of expression to use when facing him.
At the end of that day, he didn't press her for answers.
I promised to give her time to consider it.
In a high-end wedding dress shop in the city center, Chen Ningsheng sat casually to one side, legs crossed, while the manager stood obsequiously beside him, waiting for his instructions.
Although he stared at the fitting room for twenty minutes without moving, he remained expressionless. The manager couldn't figure out what he was thinking; he even felt as if he were looking at someone else through the curtain.
Of course, he shouldn't have said that.
With a whoosh, the curtain was pulled open.
Chen Bailing walked out with her long hair styled up, wearing an off-the-shoulder, floor-length wedding dress. Her skin was as white as snow, and her neck was held high, making her as elegant as a white swan. All the ladies present couldn't help but admire her.
But Chen Bailing was a little unhappy. She looked at Chen Ningsheng's icy and expressionless face, pouted and asked, "Asheng, do I not look good in this?"
Chen Ningsheng's gaze finally focused, and he looked her up and down before saying, "Beautiful."
Upon hearing this, Chen Bailing finally smiled and began to admire herself in the mirror, pulling at her skirt from left to right.
Chen Ningsheng walked over and stood beside her in front of the mirror. The mirror reflected their faces; the man was handsome and the woman was beautiful. They were a perfect match, and no one could look more compatible than them.
Chen Bailing leaned contentedly on his shoulder.
Chen Ningsheng put one hand in his pocket, looked at the man in the mirror, and his gaze gradually darkened.
Damn it, while he was sitting there, he kept imagining what that woman would look like in a wedding dress. Lu Minshi, what kind of spell did you cast on me to torment me until now?
A fierce glint appeared in his eyes, which then slowly faded away.
At the cosmetics counter, the sales assistant took out rings one by one for Chen Bailing to look at. There were so many styles of rings that Chen Bailing was overwhelmed by the choices.
Chen Ningsheng stayed by her side, his expression unchanged.
The young sales assistant kept stealing glances at him. This man was so handsome, but he was too cold, making people afraid to get close. Moreover, he had a serious face even when accompanying his fiancée to buy wedding rings. He didn't seem very romantic.
She immediately felt sorry for the woman in front of her.
"Ah Sheng, what do you think of this?"
Chen Bailing stared at the ring in her hand with sparkling eyes. The ring had only one small blue diamond in the center, which looked simple yet noble, elegant and luxurious.
Chen Ningsheng glanced at it casually and said, "It's alright."
Hearing this, Chen Bailing felt a little discouraged. She had noticed his absent-mindedness earlier that day and kept comforting herself that he was probably just like that by nature, not very enthusiastic about anything. But now, when they were choosing their most important wedding rings, he still had this attitude. It would be a lie to say that she wasn't disappointed.
She picked up the ring, ready to slip it onto his finger.
