Why was I so foolish as to believe the words of a stranger I'd only met a few times?
Lost in thought, her face was already streaked with tears, soaking her pillow.
Sometime later, only her sobs remained in the room, growing louder and louder.
Xu Xinchen's tear ducts seemed to have been completely opened, and she couldn't stop crying.
Suddenly, footsteps came from outside the door, and then there was a knock on the door.
She froze, then dazedly wiped her cheeks with a tissue, hesitating whether to open the door.
If a thug were to break in at this hour, she would be powerless to fight back.
When she didn't open the door, the other person knocked even louder, loud enough to reach the neighbors' houses. They worried that the neighbors might sue her for disturbing the peace.
Without further hesitation, she deftly slipped on her shoes and opened the door.
Before she could even see what the person outside the door looked like, everything went dark in front of her, and she was pulled into an embrace.
The familiar scent rushed towards her, and she froze, unable to believe it, frozen in place.
The two embraced silently under the light for a few seconds.
She felt the strength emanating from his body; it was very strong, as if he wanted to pull her into his arms.
With a sudden lightness, he lifted her up in his arms, kicked the door shut, strode to the small bed, threw her down, and then pressed himself against her.
When Xu Xinchen woke up again, her body ached as if it had been run over; there wasn't a single part of her body that felt good. The bedroom was dark, and she couldn't see the sky outside.
Xu Xinchen turned around and looked at him, his head resting on the pillow, breathing evenly, his eyelashes long, sleeping soundly.
He must have been exhausted yesterday. She didn't know what had gotten into him, but he kept taking advantage of her, even after she begged for mercy. He took her several times in a fit of rage, and she couldn't even remember how it ended.
Thinking of this, she felt both wronged and sweet.
His not leaving was completely unexpected for her.
She leaned closer, rested her head on his shoulder, and drifted off to sleep contentedly.
When Chen Ningsheng opened his eyes again, the room was dark. The woman in his arms was lying obediently on his strong arm. Her eyelashes were curled, fine and black, like the most exquisite porcelain doll. Their naked bodies were pressed together, and Chen Ningsheng aroused again.
He moved, and the woman in his arms slowly woke up, opening her eyes to reveal a pair of clear, obsidian-like eyes.
Her gaze lingered on him for two seconds before gently lowering it; the slightly flushed tips of her ears betrayed her feelings.
Chen Ningsheng watched her embarrassed moment with great interest, and neither of them spoke.
Chen Ningsheng moved closer and pressed himself against the woman.
When Xu Xinchen opened her eyes, it was already bright outside. Although the curtains were drawn, they could not block out the light. Everything inside the room was clearly visible, including Chen Ningsheng, who was shirtless and leaning against the headboard smoking.
A cigarette dangled from his lips, the blanket loosely covering his lower body, revealing his strong, muscular chest and abdomen. He was squinting at her, their eyes meeting.
The lines are aligned.
Xu Xinchen sat up, pressing her hand against the blanket, and leaned over to take his cigarette, but Chen Ningsheng tilted his head away, avoiding her hand.
"Smoking all the time is bad. Don't smoke anymore." Xu Xinchen didn't like him smoking, so she naturally did as he said.
He pinched the cigarette butt between two fingers and stubbed it out.
He cupped her face and began to kiss her, a deep chuckle escaping his lips. "My wife is always right. I'll do whatever she tells me to do."
Xu Xinchen was instantly pulled into his arms, his hands groping her body. She couldn't dodge in time and was somewhat intoxicated, but she knew that this couldn't go on. She had gone too far yesterday, and it still hurt there.
She kicked him hard, and the two finally created some distance between them.
She bit her lip, looking at him with a delicate, flower-like gaze that melted his heart. Her voice was soft as she said, "You don't love me..."
Seeing her like this, Chen Ningsheng's heart softened even more, and his desire flared up again. He couldn't resist, pressing the back of her head close to his face and giving her a quick kiss. His smile grew even more wicked. "I love you, of course I love you..."
His deep voice whispered in her ear, as tender as a lover's, "Have you forgotten how I pampered you yesterday?"
With a "smack," Chen Ningsheng's arm was slapped, leaving a red mark. Xu Xinchen bit her lip and said, "Don't be a pervert!"
Chen Ningsheng took her playful antics as a form of marital fun, and his words became even more unrestrained, "Is it considered being a scoundrel to treat your wife like that?"
Xu Xinchen ignored his sweet talk and remained silent, her face tense. "Why did you come back yesterday? Weren't you leaving?"
Mentioning this, Chen Ningsheng's smile vanished, and his dark eyes stared intently at her. "That was my original plan, and you didn't agree with me..."
Come on, I'll come back to find you....."
His eyes were filled with grievance, and his voice turned cold, "Who knew you would be so heartless as to actually not come?"
Xu Xinchen was momentarily speechless. She wasn't sure whether she should tell him about Chen Bailing's visit yesterday. After a moment of silence, her mind racing, she finally spoke, "Chen Bailing came to see me yesterday."
She saw him pause, his eyes wide with surprise, and she roughly understood what was going on. It seemed he really didn't know that Chen Bailing hadn't left at all. For some reason, she felt a little better.
"She didn't leave? What did she say to you?" Chen Ningsheng frowned and said anxiously, "Don't believe her. I have nothing to do with her."
"He didn't say anything..." She glanced at his expression and swallowed her words back.
Seeing her hesitant expression, Chen Ningsheng didn't press her. He just sighed and repeatedly assured her, "No matter what happens, you must tell me from now on, okay?"
Xu Xinchen smiled slightly and nodded.
Xu Xinchen talked to him for a long time, including about Sister Zhao's situation.
Chen Ningsheng looked at her quietly, hesitated, and asked, "Do you want to come back to G City with me?" Afraid that she would misunderstand, he quickly added, "It's okay if you don't want to. I'll stay and keep you company. We can live here."
His gaze was firm. "Wherever we go, we'll stay together. We can't be apart."
His words were not without their appeal to her. When she first left, she had only planned to stay in Qingyuan for a short time, earn enough money for her journey, and then move on.
He was just trying to make a living, but his words genuinely touched her heart; he was actually willing to give up his career for her...
Her eyes sparkled as she leaned in and kissed him on the cheek, then nestled against his chest, saying, "Wherever you go, I'll go."
Chen Ningsheng grinned, his eyes fixed on her alone, and kissed her along the line of her lips, "My wife is so good."
The departure date was set, and the two bought train tickets. They spent the rest of their time sightseeing. Chen Ningsheng took her to see a movie and rode his bicycle with her through the streets and alleys.
As the departure date drew closer, she felt increasingly uneasy for some reason.
But Chen Ningsheng had no worries at all, spending all his time with her and never leaving her side for even a moment.
Xu Xinchen finished packing her things. Chen Ningsheng carried the luggage in one hand and held her hand in the other. When they reached the entrance of the alley, he immediately saw the woman in front of him.
Xu Xinchen stopped and looked at Chen Bailing, who was a few steps away from them, watching them.
"Ah Sheng, I want to say a few words to you."
Xu Xinchen felt a little uncomfortable, but she had no choice but to avoid him. Just as she was about to walk away, Chen Ningsheng grabbed her wrist, squeezed it tightly, and whispered in her ear, "Wait for me, I'll be back soon."
Chen Bailing's gaze lingered on their clasped wrists for a moment, a slight mocking smile playing on her lips.
The two went to a nearby park, where Chen Ningsheng sat on a bench and said expressionlessly, "Say what you have to say quickly."
Chen Bailing looked at his handsome face with its distinct features in the morning light, "Aren't you going to ask me why I didn't get on the train?"
Chen Ningsheng remained silent, not responding, seemingly uninterested in the topic.
She laughed self-deprecatingly. Having lived with him for so many years and grown up together, she thought she knew him better than anyone else. But it turned out that she could be easily replaced.
But she hadn't given up. That woman was simply not the right person for him; in every way, they were mismatched. There was no way things would turn out well if they stayed together.
"You're taking her back to meet your uncle? Ah Sheng, we're getting engaged soon. Do you think your uncle will approve of her? A woman of unknown origin?"
Chen Ningsheng frowned slightly and corrected her, "She's not some woman of unknown origin, she's my wife."
“Ah Sheng, you are more naive than I thought. In terms of family background, education, and social standing, she will never be your wife.”
She said excitedly.
"It wouldn't be you either." He looked at her and said, word by word.
Chen Bailing opened her mouth, but couldn't say a word. Her body stiffened as she heard his cold and ruthless words echo in her ears, "Bailing, give up. I will not marry you."
