After waiting a while, there were already four sparrows in the trap. Ye Chenyang then tightened the rope in his hand, and once the sparrows were in the center of the trap, he quickly pulled back, trapping the four sparrows inside the basket. They flapped their wings but couldn't fly out.
"It worked! Hahaha."
Ye Chenyang laughed happily, got up from the ground, and ran towards the trap.
Chen Xi was even more excited:
"Holy crap, they really caught them!"
It bounced up from the ground with a thud.
The little man behind him was so startled that he stood frozen on the ground for a while before scrambling to his feet.
Inside the trap, the four sparrows fluttered for a long time before Ye Chenyang finally caught them one by one and snapped their necks.
Hiss~~
"Chenyang, I didn't realize you were so cruel!" Chen Xi took a breath and teased him in a cheeky tone.
Ye Chenyang gave a cold snort:
"Come and try if you dare."
At this point, Chen Xi was speechless:
"Well, you do it. I don't think this is cruel. It's just natural selection, the survival of the fittest."
Pfft, that's an incredibly high-sounding statement.
It was all for a bite to eat that the young master of the Chen family fell for it.
It took some time to clean up the four sparrows. Meanwhile, Chen Xi and the little man had already built a campfire.
"Chenyang, hurry up, the fire is all set up."
Just then, Ye Chenyang came over from the riverbank carrying several cleaned sparrows:
"Coming, coming, don't rush me."
When Ye Chenyang arrived, Chen Xi took the initiative to take out a few branches he had found, skewered a few sparrows together, and put them on the fire to roast.
The little dumpling was drooling, even though it had eaten just yesterday.
There's nothing we can do about it; it's a typical foodie, after all.
About twenty minutes later, the two adults and one child began to divide the spoils.
The little guy hugged his roasted sparrow and started gnawing on it. Ye Chenyang had made this before, so he gave the extra one to Chen Xi.
Chen Xi didn't hold back either:
"Brother, you're the best."
If the Chen family of Xiangcheng saw that their young master was actually fighting over a roasted sparrow... cough cough.
"Sizzle..."
Just then, Chen Xi's phone vibrated in his pocket.
"Who is it at this time?"
Chen Xi frowned, then freed one hand to take out his phone from his pocket. When he saw the caller ID, his frown deepened.
"Big brother!"
Is this a case of "speak of the devil and he shall appear"?
"Okay, I understand."
Ye Chenyang and his nephew Tuanzi heard Chen Xi say those two sentences and then hung up the phone, but Chen Xi's expression was not good.
"What's wrong?"
Chen Xi took a few big bites, devouring almost all the two sparrows, before finally replying:
"My brother came to pick me up."
That's true. It's the Lunar New Year, and Chen Xi came to the Ye family with them. He can't just stay here forever, can he?
Coincidentally, Chen Xi's older brother lived in S Province, so his family notified them to bring Chen Xi to stay with him for a few days until school started.
Ye Chenyang didn't have any particular feelings, after all, there were only a few days left before school started, and he would see them again then:
Where is your older brother?
"They said on the phone they'd be there in ten minutes."
"Let's go back and pack your things. I'll take you there."
They were all happy when they left, but when they returned, their faces were expressionless.
Ye's parents had already heard what their son had said, and Ye's mother started packing the mountain produce that had been drying in the sun into bags:
"Xiao Xi, these are all homemade. Take them home for your family. They're not expensive, so don't be picky."
