Chapter 67 A good cabbage was eaten by a pig

Ye Wanying did not rush to the black market, but went to the old lady's house first.

"Knock knock..."

Inside the house, the elderly couple were eating breakfast. "Huh, who would come to our house so early in the morning?" the old lady said, putting down her bowl of noodles and getting up to walk to the door.

"Auntie, it's me!"

"Oh, it's you, girl? Come in quickly. Haven't you eaten yet? Let me make you a bowl of noodles!" The old lady smiled and took Ye Wanying's hand, leading her into the house.

The house was originally just a simple wooden bed in one corner, a cabinet for storing clothes, and then the table where the elderly couple ate.

"Old man, look, this is the girl who sold us rice last time! Isn't she very pretty?"

Pfft, I never expected you to be this kind of old lady!

Sure enough, no matter the era, people still judge by appearance!

"Hmm, not bad! Child, come here!" The old man beckoned.

Ye Wanying was quite annoyed, but the old lady pushed her over: "Go talk to the old man, I'll make you some noodles now!"

"Oh, ma'am, no need, I've already eaten!"

"You silly child, how could you have eaten so early in the morning? It's just a bowl of plain noodles. Do you think the food at my house is bad?"

With the old lady in such a state, Ye Wanying could not possibly refuse. She sat in front of the old man, remaining silent for a moment.

Actually, from the first time I met the old lady, I could tell that she was no ordinary old lady. Her overall demeanor was something that most old ladies wouldn't have. Today, after meeting her husband, I felt that even more strongly.

The old man rarely spoke, but Ye Wanying could clearly feel the oppressive aura emanating from him—the imposing presence of someone who had long held a high position.

The old man observed for a while and said, "Young lady, you are really good. It's rare to see someone as calm as you among the younger generation. Sigh, people these days are all too impetuous!"

Yeah?

But why do I feel that you, sir, are speaking with a deeper meaning?

Ye Wanying smiled slightly: "Grandpa, you flatter me!" She didn't say much else.

But the more this happened, the more interested the old man seemed to become: "Ahem... was it you who sold my wife rice last time? Did you grow that rice?" he asked.

Immediately, an alarm bell rang in Ye Wanying's mind.

Did this old man discover something?

However, he didn't show it on his face and calmly replied, "Yes!"

"Hmm, not bad. It's obvious your family are all skilled gardeners!" The old man was also puzzled. Had he made a mistake in his suspicions?

Thankfully, the old lady came out from next door with a bowl of noodles: "What are you two talking about? Girl, come and eat your noodles!"

Ye Wanying immediately got up and went over to take the still steaming hot bowl from the old lady's hands: "Auntie, let me do it, don't burn yourself!"

The old lady smiled and nodded repeatedly, her heart filled with even greater delight: "He's a good child, much better than the ones in my family!"

During the meal, the group didn't talk about anything else, just chatted about everyday things.

"Young lady, how old are you this year? Was that child yours last time?" Ye Wanying looked much younger than usual. Although she was thin and pale, she had a good constitution!

Ye Wanying nodded: "He's my child. In our village, girls all get married early!"

The old lady felt a little sorry for her; it was like a good cabbage being eaten by a pig!
