Finally, they managed to coax the old man back home. The old lady and her husband were both secretly relieved.
"Let's go to the village entrance."
Calling it the village entrance is just a casual way of putting it; the road is right outside the door, and the village consists of courtyard houses that are basically similar to those of the Xu family. It would be strange if it were really like the villages that everyone sees.
Without a doubt, this is truly a village of nouveau riche. It's not that all the families in the village are wealthy, but just the old courtyard houses in each family are worth a fortune.
Along the way, the little old lady excitedly chattered on and on, and Old Man Xu seemed to be listening attentively, but whether he actually took it all in was anyone's guess.
We finally arrived at the village entrance. By this time, everyone was busy cooking at home, and there were hardly any people to be seen outside.
There is a small square at the entrance of the village, equipped with some fitness equipment. Usually, it is the retired elderly people of Xujia Village who come here to exercise their old arms and legs.
Next to it were two rows of old-fashioned three- or four-seater chairs; the chairs were plastic, and the bases were iron.
The old lady and Mr. Xu sat down, intending to wait.
Before she had even sat down for a minute, the old lady started talking again:
Will they be able to find a place?
"There's no need to worry about that, is there?" Old Man Xu replied.
Xiao Dan and his wife don't seem to be that stupid. Even if they didn't have the address before, they could definitely find it before they set off. You know, that's so easy. They could just find a file of their son from X Institute. They can't have come here without knowing anything, right?
"What do you mean 'don't worry'? How could I not worry? Xiao Dan hasn't been to our house for over twenty years!"
To be more precise, it wasn't so much worry as it was more of a feeling of nervousness.
How could Old Man Xu not understand his wife of decades? He knew she was anxious.
“Our family hasn’t moved, and this place hasn’t changed much. Xiao Dan can easily find it based on her memories from back then.”
That's absolutely true. When Gao Dan last stayed at the Xu family's house, he was already almost ten years old, not two or three, an age at which memories could be easily forgotten.
The old lady was somewhat comforted and finally stopped babbling on and on in a tense manner.
The elderly couple waited a while longer, while Gao Dan and Ye Wanying, along with the young couple, were sitting on the back of a tricycle, already very close to the Xu family's house.
"Master, how much longer until we arrive?" Ye Wanying asked softly.
"Coming right away, I'll be there in five minutes at most."
Five minutes is normal, given the current speed of the tricycle.
Because of safety concerns, and because we weren't in such a rush, we didn't ask the tricycle driver to drive fast; he drove slowly the whole time. Otherwise, we should have arrived ten minutes ago.
"Five minutes left," Ye Wanying said.
Upon hearing this, Gao Dan nodded but did not respond. He looked around, seemingly engrossed in his surroundings.
Seeing the man in front of her looking like this, Ye Wanying asked curiously:
"Director Gao, what are you looking at?"
"Now and in the past."
Forehead?
Then, I quickly realized what was going on.
The man is now reminiscing about something from long ago!
Ye Wanying didn't make any more noise or disturb them, and quietly followed along, looking at the surrounding scenery.
