The elderly couple walked very quickly; it only took them three or four minutes to get from the fields to the village committee office.
Meanwhile, at the convenience store, Ye Wanying and Ye Xiaoyu were both by the phone. As for the little dumpling, it had already become quite adept at asking the store owner, Auntie, to grill sausages for it. Right now, it was staring intently at the sausages tumbling on the old-fashioned sausage grill.
It seems like it's been less than half an hour since I finished lunch, right?
This little guy has such a big stomach, it's really enviable.
Ye Wanying glanced at it before looking away. Just then, her parents' voices came from the other end of the phone.
"Daughter, what's up with the call?" Ye's father asked.
Ye's mother whispered from the side, "You old man, why do you ask what's wrong as soon as you arrive? Ask your daughter if she's eaten yet!"
Ye Wanying naturally heard the elderly couple's voices clearly, and a smile appeared on her face:
"Father, Mother, I've eaten. What about you?"
Meals in the village are usually eaten late, since everyone is busy working in the fields almost every day.
"We've already eaten. Your father and I have been eating at the same time every day now," Ye's mother replied.
Ye Wanying was finally relieved:
"Yes, maintaining a balanced and regular diet is good for your health. Mom and Dad are not young anymore, so we can do the work in the fields later. Everything should be done with our health first."
Mr. Ye was overjoyed. His daughter was so much better; she was far more considerate than his son.
"Yingying, don't worry about your mother and me. We're adults now, we can take good care of ourselves. It's you young people who need to take care of your health!"
Instead, my parents worry about me, sigh...
"I know, I know. By the way, Dad, Mom, there's something I want to tell you."
On the other end of the phone, Mr. and Mrs. Ye asked simultaneously:
"What's up?"
Ye Wanying glanced at her cousin standing beside her. Ye Xiaoyu's face and neck were as red as a boiled shrimp.
"Hey, Mom and Dad, don't worry, it's not a bad thing, it's a happy occasion!"
Um?
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Ye were truly relieved. Soon after, they heard from their daughter on the phone that Xiaoyu was getting married, and the elderly couple were overjoyed.
"Really? How's the young man? Is he reliable? How's his job? Does he have a place to live? How many people are in his family?"
But this series of problems, well, that's normal.
Ye's parents have never treated their niece Ye Xiaoyu as an outsider, which is why they worry about these issues as if they were their own parents.
“The young man is good. He works at the institute and has a stable job. He will be allocated housing as soon as he gets married. He has no other family members. His parents have passed away, and he has no siblings.”
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Ye both laughed:
"That's great. Xiaoyu has suffered before, but now she deserves to enjoy life. Without her in-laws, she can avoid a lot of trouble. But what about Xiaoyu's parents...?"
"Mom, that's why I called. Do you think we could try to find out what my uncle and aunt are thinking first?"
The elderly couple exchanged a glance:
"OK!"
For my niece's lifelong happiness, this little thing is nothing.
"Everyone's in the fields right now. Your dad and I will go over to check on them tonight, and we'll call you back then or tomorrow."
"Okay, thank you for your help, Dad and Mom."
"Why are you being so polite with your parents, child?"
Ye Xiaoyu was also nearby at this time and heard the entire conversation clearly:
"Uncle, Aunt, thank you." Her voice trembled noticeably.
