Chapter 22: Suffering

On weekdays, the eldest brother and his wife are the most filial to their elders.

Now that he knows I'm at the door, but he's unwilling to open it, this matter may be more serious than they thought.

In the end, there was really no other way.

If the eldest brother and his wife have made up their minds, they can't just force their way in.

Although Old Mrs. Song was worried, she didn't know how to get them to explain what had happened.

Song Rushuang on the other side was extremely curious.

She just heard that her uncle had not come back yet.

Finally, the people came back, but after so long, they still didn't come to see her.

Something must have happened!

Just then, she saw Song Xiaoliu running in, wanting to play with her.

Xiaoqi immediately burst into tears.

Of course it was fake crying, but it was very loud.

Song Xiaoliu was startled.

He wanted to comfort her, but Song Rushuang had done it on purpose, so naturally, there was no way she could be coaxed.

How could Song Xiaoliu, a little kid, handle such a situation?

If he can't handle something himself, he can only rely on his mother.

So, Song Xiaoliu ran to find Duan Dinglan in a panic.

"mother!"

Before anyone even walked in, the sound rang out in everyone's ears.

"What's wrong, Xiaoliu? What happened?"

"It's my sister. She's crying so hard and seems to be in great pain!"

As soon as these words were uttered, not only did Duan Dinglan and Old Lady Song change their expressions.

Even the eldest couple in the room, who were reluctant to open the door, opened it immediately.

The eldest daughter-in-law asked anxiously, "What's wrong? What happened to Xiaoqi?"

When the couple came out, everyone saw the red and swollen wounds on their faces.

"What's going on?"

Old Mrs. Song was trembling with heart and immediately pulled her eldest daughter-in-law over, her eyes full of heartache.

"Oh my God, Cuizhi, what's wrong with your face? Who hit you like this?"

The eldest son's wife only reacted after she opened the door.

He quickly covered his face.

"What are you hiding? Who beat you? Didn't the boss accompany you back to your parents' home? How did it become like this?"

"Mom, it's okay. We were just riding the ox cart and accidentally fell off."

Mrs. Song's expression immediately turned angry:

"Are you just saying these things to try to appease me? I've lived to this age, and you think I can't tell the difference between a fall and a beating?"

Duan Dinglan pinched Old Lady Song's lower back and shook her head at her imperceptibly.

Only then did Old Lady Song calm down a little.

On this side, Duan Dinglan had already put her arm around Zhang Cuizhi's wrist.

"Sister-in-law, wasn't Xiaoqi crying just now? Come with me to see what's wrong with Xiaoqi."

Anyone with a discerning eye could see what Duan Dinglan meant.

There are some things that Zhang Cuizhi, the daughter-in-law, cannot say, but there is definitely nothing that Song Lao Da, the son, can hide from me.

Therefore, Duan Dinglan sent Zhang Cuizhi away in order to create conditions for a conversation between the old lady and her eldest brother;

On the other hand, this is also to relieve some of the pressure on Zhang Cuizhi.

The old lady breathed a sigh of relief and lamented that she was lucky to have her sixth daughter-in-law to help her.

Otherwise, if I were so angry just now, I would have planted a thorn in the heart of my eldest daughter-in-law.

In the room, Song Rushuang's voice was so hoarse from screaming so hard.

Just when she was about to give up, someone came into the room.

Duan Dinglan reached out to hug Song Rushuang, but she twisted her body to avoid him.

This is the first time this has happened since Song Rushuang was born.

It’s not that Song Rushuang was in a bad mood, but as soon as she entered the door, her eyes fell on her aunt’s red and swollen cheeks.

She knew that he was beaten.

No wonder no one came into the house. It turned out something really happened.

The little baby's gaze was sharp and sincere, and it fell squarely on Zhang Cuizhi.

"Oh, did I scare Xiao Qi?"

Her face changed and she quickly covered her cheeks with her hands.

Song Rushuang suddenly stretched out her arms towards her.

"This is?"

Zhang Cuizhi's heart moved. She first glanced at Song Rushuang uncertainly, then looked at Duan Dinglan, "What is this?"

She didn't understand, but Duan Dinglan did.

Thinking of Xiaoqi's little thoughts, Duan Dinglan felt helpless and relieved.

"Sister-in-law, Xiaoqi wants you to hold her and play with her."

Zhang Cuizhi originally liked girls, but she couldn't give birth to one herself.

Fortunately, God blessed the Song family and they finally had a daughter, and she loved Xiaoqi even more.

Now that she saw her being so close to her, Zhang Cuizhi felt as if her heart had melted into tenderness.

Song Rushuang stretched out her little chubby hand and carefully touched Zhang Cuizhi's red and swollen cheek. A tear as big as a bean immediately filled her big round eyes.

She expressed her heartache for her aunt in the most direct way she could.

Zhang Cuizhi was stunned at first, and then her nose suddenly felt sore.

She hugged Song Rushuang tightly and said with a choked voice:

"They are not as good as our Xiaoqi. From now on, Auntie will keep all the good things for our Xiaoqi."

Duan Dinglan went out for a while and when he came back, he was holding a porcelain box with a piece of white cotton gauze on it.

"Sister-in-law, these are the buns my mother made. Have two."

"No, you two kids, just stay and eat."

Duan Dinglan forcefully stuffed the porcelain box into Zhang Cuizhi's hands:

"Just take it. I brought back quite a bit. This was originally meant for you."

We are all one family.

Zhang Cuizhi naturally couldn't refuse Duan Dinglan's kindness again and again.

"Thanks to my sixth brother's wife, I can eat a bun here, and my heart feels warm now, no matter how cold it is."

Because it was a little late, Song Rushuang fell asleep without any coaxing.

Zhang Cuizhi gently placed Song Rushuang in the cradle, and then she and Duan Dinglan walked out.

When sending her out, Zhang Cuizhi thought for a long time and finally told her everything she wanted to say.

"Sister-in-law, although I don't know what happened to you and brother, we are all family. You have to tell us anything."

Zhang Cuizhi didn't say anything.

Duan Dinglan continued:

"You know my mother's temper. She's not losing her temper on purpose. She just feels sorry for you. So, if you're really being bullied by someone, you must speak up!"

Her concern was genuine.

Zhang Cuizhi was aware of this.

She also knew why Duan Dinglan called her to the Sixth Room.

"Don't worry, Ding Lan. I've figured it out, and I can't hide this from my mother. I'll go find her right now and explain what happened today so she won't worry."
