Chapter 406 I'm Willing

Chapter 406 I'm Willing

She paused, glancing at Boss Su.

“Brother Guo, don’t blame yourself or feel guilty. She became like this because Su… your father didn’t fulfill his responsibilities as a father. It’s not your fault. Didn’t Mom say that we are just the older brother and sister-in-law? Just take care of yourselves…”

"I know."

Boss Su sighed softly, "I just feel a little sad. How did she become like this?"

Yao Jianshu noticed the bloodshot eyes in her husband's eyes and hesitated for a moment.

He said, "If you really can't stand it, we'll lend a hand, but we need to be careful how we do it..."

Boss Su shook his head.

“I’m not helping anymore. I still have you and the children. I can’t let you be targeted by an ungrateful wretch like Su Hongmei and put you, Mingwa, and Lebao in danger. Mom is right, we don’t owe her anything. She’s not a three-year-old. She has the wages that Dad withholds from the factory to pay for her school fees, and she can manage her living expenses by doing odd jobs on weekends. She can definitely survive…”

Yao Jianshu knew he was upset, so she took his hand and squeezed it gently.

Su Laoda rode his bike all the way here, and his hands were a little cold from the wind. He tried to pull them back, but Yao Jianshu grabbed them tightly and pulled them back.

The warmth from his wife's palm slowly warmed his hands, and the heat flowed from his hands to his entire body.

Su Laoda looked up at his wife's worried eyes, broke free from her grip, and pulled her closer to him.

"Jianshu, I'm sorry, I made you suffer in the past."

Yao Jianshu understood what he meant, shook his head and smiled, and said, "To live a good life, you always have to endure some hardships. The life I have now is the life I dreamed of. Brother Guo, let's make our family's life better and better, okay?"

Su Laoda hugged her even tighter.

He sighed softly and said, "Okay."

With his worries resolved, Su Laoda rode his bike home with Yao Jianshu, arriving just in time for dinner. The hot food was served, and the family ate while chatting about the interesting things that had happened during the day.

The two children, the older one sitting on a stool like a little adult, scooped food from their bowls with small spoons, thanking the adults for the food they kept putting on their plates. They would frown when they saw food they didn't like, and smile when they saw food they liked. Su Laosan was amused by his little nephew's smiling face and laughed heartily.

The little one would stuff a mouthful of rice into her mouth, then scramble off the stool and circle around an adult's back, babbling incomprehensible words. Once she finished her food, she would immediately pick an adult, scramble up onto their lap, and point out food, asking the adult to pick it up and feed it to her. After getting her desired food, she would climb down and circle around them again and again, never seeming to get tired.

The food smelled delicious, and steam rose from the lamp above the dining table. The room was filled with laughter and chatter.

Su Laoda's heart was instantly healed.

After dinner, the couple read in the study. Su Laosan played with his nephew and niece for a while, then handed them over to Arno and Grandma Qiu to put to sleep. He then went to call Su Laoda out for a chat.

He placed a few small dishes outside, warmed a small pot of fruit wine with little alcohol content, poured the wine, and pushed it to Boss Su.

The two brothers downed a drink and chatted for a bit before Su Laosan finally got to the point, asking Su Laoda, "Big brother, did something happen at school? You seemed a bit distracted this afternoon..."

Boss Su put down his cup and hummed in agreement.

"Really?"

Old Su frowned. "Tell me, is someone causing trouble? I'll go help you..."

"No," Old Master Su said.

Su Laosan looked at him, puzzled.

Boss Su gave a half-hearted laugh. "It's about my little sister."

He told Su Laosan about his visit to Su Hongmei, and Su Laosan's expression immediately turned sour.

With a gloomy face, he cursed, "She's really crazy! She's trying to take advantage of everyone she can! Does she think she owes anyone anything? If she's so capable, why doesn't she go and cause trouble for Su Youfu? She's always bullying honest people..."

He then spat lightly.

Boss Su opened his mouth, wanting to ask if the honest man he was referring to was him.

Before he could even react, Su Laosan called out to him, "Big brother, don't worry about this. When the factory withheld Su Youfu's wages to pay for her schooling, they must have considered her living expenses. Those people at the factory know what kind of person Su Youfu is; they couldn't possibly not give her a single penny."

"Right?"

After hearing what Su Xiaosi said, Su Laoda was a little confused. The factory must know that the house had been taken back. Su Hongmei had nowhere to live, and even going to school and eating were problems. Why was she only given tuition and fees, and her food and drink were not taken care of?

"But from what Xiao Si said, it seems like they didn't give me any living expenses?"

Su Laosan curled his lip, "Big brother, you actually believe what Su Xiaosi says? You can only believe three-tenths of what he says. If you don't believe me, go back to the factory and ask if they've paid Su Hongmei for meals."

Boss Su nodded.

Su Laosan: "No, Big Brother, you really want to ask? You should focus on your studies. I'll look into this later. And also..."

He warned Boss Su, "Su Xiaosi is cunning and even more difficult to deal with than Su Hongmei. Don't let him fool you."

He frowned as he spoke, wondering why the two of them had run into each other.

“We both went to the same school,” Su explained.

Su Laosan was stunned for a moment. "What a coincidence? Su Xiaosi is also in graduate school? I remember he's only in college. Isn't college four years? Is he really in graduate school so fast?"

“He’s not pursuing a master’s degree; he’s doing his undergraduate studies,” Mr. Su said.

Su Laosan said "Oh" twice, "Big brother, be careful, or you might get sold out by Su Xiaosi and end up counting the money for him without even realizing it."

As he spoke, he poured wine for Boss Su.

Su Laoda chuckled and glanced at him. "Am I that stupid? How could I be fooled without even realizing it?"

Su Laosan clicked his tongue twice, poured himself a drink, clinked glasses with Su Laoda's, downed it in one gulp, and called out to his elder brother with a grin, "Don't you know that among us siblings, you're the kind of guy who's always been the best-natured?"

Boss Su, "..."

Su Laosan laughed heartily, "Think about it, how many times have we tricked you since you were little? All the good food, fun toys, clothes, and New Year's money have only passed through your hands once, and in the end, they all end up in our pockets. And the first money you earned during your internship, you bought each of us a new outfit, and treated us to a big meal and a trip, while you yourself didn't get anything..."

As he laughed, Su Laosan couldn't laugh anymore.

He twitched the corners of his mouth, clenched his fist and put it to his mouth, coughing lightly to cover up his embarrassment. "Well, big brother, I was immature back then, please don't be angry."

Boss Su shook his head, "I'm not angry. I gave those things to you willingly."

Su Laosan neither liked nor liked hearing these words.

He frowned and shook his head, lecturing, "Brother, you can't do this. Haven't you heard the saying, 'If you're always willing to suffer losses, you'll never stop suffering losses'? You don't owe us anything, there's no need for this..."
