Chapter 355 I Can't Save Him
Xu Ying raised an eyebrow and glanced at Li Banxia, then smiled and helped her get a deal.
Several people glanced at Xu Ying, and one of them spat at her lightly.
"You know how to do people a favor, Mr. Li. How many days can this be delivered at most? Can I order a week's supply directly?"
Li Banxia smiled and shook her head, holding up a finger, "At most, it can only last three days. The health-preserving meals need to be adjusted in a timely manner according to your physical condition."
"Okay, then I'll book three days first. Where do I pay the deposit?" the woman asked straightforwardly.
Li Banxia called out "Sister-in-law," and Sister-in-law Xiao, who was watching from afar, smiled and quickly walked over when she heard her name called.
The others followed suit and ordered three days' worth of nutritious meals, some delivered to their workplaces and others having them delivered to their homes in the evenings.
After seeing the group off, Mr. Li smiled as he looked at his daughter.
He praised her, saying, "Your mind is much sharper now that you're divorced. Before, you only knew how to focus on making money and raising your child."
"Isn't this good?" Li Banxia smiled.
Mr. Li nodded, "Of course it's good. It would be wonderful if my daughter could be as vibrant and energetic as she was when she was a young woman, not obsessed with money, and not restricted by her children."
The father and daughter were chatting when suddenly a man's loud wailing came from the street corner.
"Mom, hang in there! We're almost there. The health center is just ahead. Doctor, doctor..."
When the father and daughter heard that it was someone looking for them, they both got up and went outside to see.
They discovered that a man and a woman were carrying a door panel, on which lay a woman. The woman's face was devoid of any color, instead appearing lifeless.
The moment Li's father saw the woman, his expression changed.
"Dad, what's wrong?"
Mr. Li sighed, "It's that woman from that day."
On the day the health center opened, Li's father tried his best to persuade her to go to the hospital, but neither of them listened. They both felt that the woman was healthy and did not need to go to the hospital.
In less than two months, he looked like he had been drained of all his life force.
"Doctor, doctor, we're here! We're here! Doctor, please save her..."
Upon seeing Mr. Li standing at the entrance of the health center, the man hurried a few steps, put down the door panel, and prepared to crawl over on his knees.
Mr. Li quickly stopped him, shaking his head and saying, "I'm sorry, I can't save him."
The man didn't believe it.
“How could she not be saved? You could tell she was getting sick, and you urged us to go to the hospital. It's only been two months…”
"Doctor, please save my mother! You're a miracle doctor! You diagnosed her illness and advised her to go to the hospital. You must have a way! I'm begging you, I'm begging you..."
The woman who carried the door panel knelt at Li's father's feet and kowtowed repeatedly.
Li's father said helplessly, "If you had listened to us back then, there might have been a chance to save her. She could have had surgery, come here to recuperate, and lived for another 10 or 20 years without any problem. But now..."
It's too late to say anything now.
Mr. Li sighed and gently waved his hand, "Go back."
The woman knew she was dying, but she never expected that in just two months she would become so weak.
She was still very strong back then.
Li's father sighed inwardly. When a candle is burning, it doesn't know it's about to burn out, so it's naturally very bright and illuminating; once it's burned out and there's no more oil left, with only a little wick, how can it possibly light up?
She will only slowly fade away, burning out her life force.
The man pounded his head in anguish, crying, "It's all my fault, all my fault! Why didn't I listen to you? I killed my wife, I killed my child's mother..."
The father and daughter's cries attracted a large crowd.
Many people sighed, saying, "If we had known it would turn out like this, why didn't we do it in the first place?"
The man cried his eyes out.
He wailed, "How could I have known back then that a doctor at a health center was so skilled? If only we had known, if only we had known, we would have gone to the hospital much sooner. My poor wife is not even fifty yet. Honey, how am I supposed to live the rest of my life?"
Mr. Li shook his head.
"Take your wife back home, treat her well, let her enjoy a few days of happiness. It'll only be a matter of a few days."
The man cried even harder.
The woman sobbed uncontrollably, crawling on her knees as if trying to say something, but was stopped by the other woman.
"Don't... don't make things difficult for the doctor. Doctor... if he can save me, he won't abandon me to my fate. Let's go..."
After she finished speaking, she started coughing. At first, it was a light cough, but then she couldn't stop coughing until she coughed up a mouthful of blood, and her face turned as white as paper.
The onlookers gasped and backed away.
The father and daughter carried the person away while crying.
The health and wellness center, however, became bustling with activity.
Many people lined up to have their pulse taken by Li's father.
Mr. Li looked at each of them one by one and indeed found a few who needed to go to the hospital.
The group exaggeratedly exclaimed "Oh dear, oh dear!" and asked Li's father, "Is this some kind of serious illness that money can't cure? If it were really serious, I wouldn't be going; I'd just stay home and wait to die."
Mr. Li shook his head. "No."
Those people happily went home to get money to go to the hospital for treatment.
Many people are still taking a wait-and-see approach; neither Li's father nor Li Banxia is in a hurry.
A few days later, several people came back with feedback.
She arrived with a smile on her face, calling out at the door, "Dr. Li, guess what? I went to the hospital for a checkup and they found a tumor in my stomach, it's this big! I was wondering why my stomach was getting bigger and bigger like an inflating balloon when I wasn't eating much. After the doctor examined me, he scheduled surgery to remove it and said I'd be fine after some rest. Could you take my pulse again later and prescribe me some nourishing meals to help me recover..."
This shout drew many glances, and the man looked on with the earnest expression of "Dr. Li, I'm giving you a shout-out."
Mr. Li couldn't help but shake his head and laugh.
Someone else came up to Mr. Li and said, "No wonder I always feel headaches and dizziness. A checkup revealed a problem with my spine..."
There's another one that's outrageous.
"One of my toes turned black. The doctor said it was already necrotic and wouldn't be surgically removed. It could not only affect my nervous system, but could also lead to paralysis. Right now, I'm just a four-toed freak and I can live for many more years. It's a stroke of luck amidst misfortune..."
It made everyone burst into laughter.
The man leaned closer and praised Li's father as a miracle doctor, saying, "My toe turned black a few years ago when I went out and drank too much on my way home. It was accidentally run over by a car. I didn't think much of it at the time, but who knew the consequences would be so serious. Dr. Li, I'm so grateful to you, otherwise I would have ended up like that woman the other day."
He spoke with a look of lingering fear.
Mr. Li said that if he takes good care of himself, his four toes will run as fast as ever.
The man laughed loudly, "That makes sense. Before, I had to worry about him when I went out, and I didn't dare to run around. Now that he's gone, I feel much more at ease. The doctor also told me to take good care of myself. Dr. Li, could you please tell me how I should take care of myself..."
As he spoke, he casually pushed aside the person sitting on the stool and sat down.
The people who had been queuing to watch the spectacle were unhappy.
Those who were pushed out were also unhappy.
"Hey, you're so cunning! How did you cut in line?"
