"Fever? Then let's give you an IV drip and prescribe some medicine," the doctor said hastily, taking the medical record.
"Doctor, should we listen to your lungs?" Qin Xiaoyu asked anxiously.
"How can someone with just a fever get pneumonia? You have no common sense at all," the doctor said dismissively.
"I have basic medical knowledge, so I treat patients at home. Why would I come to you? You're supposed to be saving lives, so who are you trying to convince with your sarcastic remarks? Can you do it or not? If you can't, get out and give this place to the good people!" Qin Xiaoyu suddenly exploded.
Everyone in the room was startled and stared at her in surprise.
"I'm not going to see you anymore, go wherever you want!" The doctor got angry and pushed Qin Xiaoyu out.
Qin Xiaoyu's arms were already sore, and she was too weak to resist, so she was pushed out of the examination room.
She began to regret not controlling her anger. This was harming the child. What should she do?
Thunder was rumbling outside; a rainstorm was imminent. Qin Xiaoyu hadn't even brought a raincoat, and she walked desperately toward the door.
The door opened, carrying a hint of the salty smell of rain. A tall, imposing man walked in through the wind and rain, took the little girl from her arms, and said softly, "Get in the car."
Qin Xiaoyu got into Qi Si's car and kept wiping away tears; he was also her relative.
"Brother, didn't I tell you not to come to me?" She finally regained some of her composure.
“If I don’t contact you, what will you do? I’m not as ruthless as you. Let it be, do whatever you want.”
Qi Si drove to the entrance of the Second Light Industry Hospital. It was raining heavily. He took off his T-shirt, covered his younger sister with it, held her in his arms, and ran into the building. Qin Xiaoyu and Hanhan chased after him.
Qi Si was shirtless, and his body covered in eye-catching tattoos caused patients and nurses to back away.
"Qin Xiaoyu?"
As soon as she entered the hospital gate, she heard someone call her name. Qin Xiaoyu looked up and saw that it was the head nurse.
"Sister Lu," Qin Xiaoyu greeted her, guessing that she hadn't heard any gossip yet.
"Why are you here? Is your child not feeling well?" That's just how the head nurse is; her face is always indifferent, and her tone isn't warm. But her actions are very genuine. She reached out and patted the younger nurse's head, then frowned.
Under the head nurse's arrangement, the younger sister was quickly put on an IV drip.
Qin Xiaoyu went to great lengths to chase Qi Si back. He returned less than ten minutes later, bringing two raincoats and some food.
"Brother, please go quickly, don't make me get so stressed." Qin Xiaoyu had a terrible headache.
"Okay, okay, I'm leaving now. Be sure to contact me if you need anything!" Qi Si reminded him one last time before leaving.
"Drink some hot water. Be careful, the virus can infect adults, but the symptoms are not as obvious as in children. Also, it's best to isolate this boy. If he gets infected, it will be troublesome. You can't even handle one person, what will you do if another one comes?" the head nurse nagged on and on.
Qin Xiaoyu leaned her head against the wall, letting the cool breeze wash over her. Her headache lessened, and her eyes felt hot, but there were no tears.
"Sister Lu, you don't know yet, do you? My life has undergone a complete transformation."
"I've heard about it. This is a big deal. I bet everyone in the city, except for the deaf, has heard about it." The head nurse gave a wry smile.
"Sister Lu, what do you think?"
"What am I thinking? You don't have a man, and he's not married either. What's wrong with you two dating? Those people are just bored," the head nurse said casually.
Qin Xiaoyu never imagined that someone could say such a thing about her relationship with Zhou Xing, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Why are you crying? Don't be a coward. You did nothing wrong. What are you crying about? If you're afraid of this and that, you shouldn't have been together in the first place." Although the head nurse's words were harsh, they were true, and Qin Xiaoyu's fighting spirit was gradually recovering.
Indeed, she has become timid, which is not right.
After giving the younger sister an IV drip, the head nurse arranged for her to sleep in the duty room. When it was dawn and the younger sister's fever had subsided, and the nurses came to hand over their shifts, she finally took her two children home. Staying there was too much of a disruption to others' work, and besides, she was somewhat afraid to see people now.
Although she could only stay at home for a few hours before having to come back for another IV drip, this ordeal was unavoidable, so Qin Xiaoyu could only grit her teeth and bear it.
The rain outside had lessened a bit, so the mother and her two children put on their raincoats and went to the bus stop to take the tram home.
When my cousin's wife heard the noise at the door, she rushed out to greet her. She hadn't slept all night, and her eyes were dark.
"Sister-in-law, have you been waiting for us all this time?"
"I went to the military hospital to look for you. I heard you had a fight there and then disappeared. I was so worried. I went out to check every time I heard a noise." Her cousin-in-law helped her put her younger sister on the kang (a heated brick bed) and covered her with a small quilt.
"Sister-in-law, you've gone to so much trouble for me," Qin Xiaoyu said apologetically.
"What are you saying! Don't you know how you treat our family? I can't help you with anything, and that makes me feel bad."
My cousin's wife cooked a thick, mushy millet porridge, mixed it with brown sugar, and served two bowls to the mother and daughter.
Qin Xiaoyu scooped up a poached egg with a spoon, and she quickly exchanged the bowl in her hand with Hanhan.
"One for each of you, eat up," my cousin-in-law quickly stopped them when she saw this.
This egg was the most delicious one she had ever eaten in her life; she swallowed it with tears in her eyes.
Bang! Bang! Bang! The door was pounded loudly, startling everyone inside. The sound of light footsteps came from the yard; it was Grandma Hanhan going to answer the door.
"Get your vixen out here!" A sharp shout came from the doorway; it was Aunt Zhang, the committee director.
"Aunt Zhang, what's going on?" Grandma Hanhan panicked and pulled the door shut to prevent anyone from coming in.
Qin Xiaoyu sensed something was wrong and hurried to the kitchen window to look out. She couldn't see clearly how many people were outside, but she could hear that there were quite a few.
"Your daughter-in-law has questionable conduct, is morally corrupt, seduces men, and is a slut! The committee is holding a meeting today to criticize her and make her come out!" Director Zhang's tone was very sharp.
"What are you talking about? What news have you heard? I don't know anything about it!" Grandma Hanhan panicked even more, having long forgotten about her causing trouble at Qin Xiaoyu's school, and hurriedly tried to cover it up.
"Don't play dumb. Everyone knows now. She even seduced the commander's son. Shameless! It's embarrassing to live next to her. Make her come out. Today I want to see just how thick-skinned she is!" Director Zhang pushed aside Grandma Hanhan and led several old ladies into the courtyard with a menacing air.
She's been coming over a lot lately to use the fan, so she knows which room Qin Xiaoyu lives in and just barges in. The room's tiny, easy to see at a glance, and if no one's there, they come out in the blink of an eye.
"Aunt Zhang, that's not how she said it. She didn't do anything. Please be magnanimous and don't hold it against her. Let's talk this out." Grandma Hanhan tried to push them away, but she was surrounded by several women and trapped in the middle.
"Don't you care about that stinky face of yours anymore? You wear new clothes everywhere you go. Don't you know where your daughter-in-law's money comes from? She earns it by selling her body. Aren't you ashamed of being so promiscuous?" Director Zhang's insults became increasingly vulgar.
Qin Xiaoyu gritted her teeth and clenched her fists so tightly that her fingernails almost dug into the flesh of her palms.
"Is it in this room?" someone prompted. Several people rushed towards the cousin's wife's house.
Qin Xiaoyu's first reaction was to turn back into the house to protect the children, so that Hanhan and her younger sister wouldn't get hurt.
Just then, the door was kicked open with a bang, and Tang Long stood in the doorway, holding a gleaming kitchen knife, shouting, "Anyone who dares to touch my second aunt will have to get past me first!"
