The table was already set, with steamed buns in the middle, along with two stir-fried side dishes and a plate of spiced peanuts—dishes only eaten during festivals.
My cousin sat at the table, holding the report card in his hand, looking at it from left to right. When he saw Qin Xiaoyu come in, he was a little embarrassed, wiped his eyes, and hugged Hanhan in his arms.
Since her rebirth, this was the most comfortable meal Qin Xiaoyu had ever had. Her family was happy and harmonious, chatting and laughing – the kind of life she had always wanted since she was a child.
"Here you go." After finishing her meal, Qin Xiaoyu wanted to help clear the dishes, but her cousin-in-law pushed her in. As soon as she returned to the room, she saw Tang Long handing a new pencil case to Hanhan.
Hanhan nervously took a step back, put her two little hands behind her back, and shook her head desperately.
"This is your reward for getting first place. Here, take it. You can get first place in school too." Tang Long didn't see Qin Xiaoyu; he was just seriously educating his younger brother. Qin Xiaoyu felt a warmth in his heart, knowing that his efforts hadn't been in vain and that the child was thoughtful.
Hanhan took the pencil case, but was still uneasy, so she showed it to Qin Xiaoyu.
"Since it's from your brother, please accept it. Do you thank your brother?"
"Thank you, brother." Hanhan's mouth was stretched so wide that it couldn't close, and she ran to the side with her pencil case to show it to her little sister.
"Second Aunt, thank you," Tang Long said, mustering his courage.
"Your second aunt was right about you. Let's continue. A wonderful life awaits you in the future." Qin Xiaoyu sat down at the table, and Tang Long quickly moved a stool over to sit down as well. Her cousin came from the kitchen, saw this scene at the door, and quickly retreated.
A crisp bicycle bell rang outside the window. Qin Xiaoyu looked up and saw her cousin pushing his old-fashioned bicycle briskly past. Hanhan straddled the crossbar, her short legs pedaling, riding with a rather professional air. Her younger sister clapped and laughed beside her. This was what a family should look like—loving and helping each other. Qin Xiaoyu realized she had done the right thing.
"What's that second son's wife doing, coming to your house every day?" Grandma Hanhan couldn't sit still any longer and came over to inquire.
"I'm tutoring my son Longlong in his homework," my cousin-in-law said proudly.
"What can she possibly do? Don't do anything reckless!" Grandma Hanhan exclaimed in surprise.
"Don't say that. His second aunt is very capable. Last time, my Longlong got first place in the exam." The cousin's wife couldn't stop talking about it.
"What's there to brag about? The teacher said it was copied." The old lady couldn't stand their flirting and made sarcastic remarks from behind. The cousin-in-law didn't dare to talk back to her mother-in-law and went back into the house with a sigh. Grandma Hanhan, on the other hand, felt a little proud and walked with a bit of swagger.
"Second Sister-in-law, I heard you've been tutoring Longlong in English?" Tang Wenwen rushed into Qin Xiaoyu's room as soon as she got back. She hadn't gone home for the National Day holiday; she'd gone out with her classmates, riding her bicycle instead. When Qin Xiaoyu heard Hanhan's grandmother mention this, she thought to herself, "If this girl were born in the 21st century, she'd be something special. It's a pity she was born too early."
"His high school classes are easy to handle." Qin Xiaoyu kept a low profile in front of Tang Wenwen.
"Could you take a look at this for me? It's some documents I need to transfer to the lab." Tang Wenwen took out a stack of papers.
Qin Xiaoyu secretly gave her a thumbs up. This girl had only been an apprentice at the factory for a few days, yet she had already managed to get into the laboratory. Her ability was truly impressive.
Aside from some unfamiliar chemical terms, the document wasn't difficult. Qin Xiaoyu took out some paper and started writing the translation.
"You'll have to figure out the proper nouns yourself; I'll just leave it blank," Qin Xiaoyu said casually, but Tang Wenwen was already completely in awe.
"Second sister-in-law, I feel like you've become a different person? No, just your brain. Did you cultivate to become an immortal?"
Do you believe in reincarnation?
"letter."
Do you believe that people can be reborn?
The second "faith" doesn't have the same force as the first one.
"If I told you I was reborn, would you believe me?"
To be honest, I'm half-believing, half-doubting.
This was the first time Qin Xiaoyu had told someone this, and she felt really good about it. She looked at Tang Wenwen and smiled slightly.
"Second sister-in-law, don't scare me. Are you telling the truth?" Tang Wenwen was already 70% convinced.
"It's true. I come from thirty-five years in the future. As for how I got here, I don't know. Anyway, when I opened my eyes, I became this Qin Xiaoyu." Qin Xiaoyu sighed. Maybe this is a good thing. If she were still in her previous life, she would have died. There would be no later. Now, letting her live again with her memories is giving her a chance.
"How amazing! What will it be like in thirty-five years?" Tang Wenwen's focus was different.
"That's the world you yearn for, the world you want to be like." Qin Xiaoyu said this with a hint of regret. Tang Wenwen pestered Qin Xiaoyu for a long time, talking about what the future would be like, her eyes full of envy.
"Second sister-in-law, what are you going to do next?" Tang Wenwen finally returned to the human world and got down to business.
“I’m also worried. Master Wang runs his shop at home, and that kind of model is obviously not suitable for me. Let alone me running a shop, if two more people come to the house, I’m afraid the Tang family will explode.”
"That's right, the old lady dares to hit people out with a stick." Tang Wenwen chuckled.
"Master Wang is interested in expanding the shop, we'll see then. Also, it was agreed that apprentices wouldn't be paid. It seems she's a repeat offender; I'm afraid she won't keep me after I graduate. I'll just have to wait and see..."
The two were chatting animatedly when the cousin's wife barged in, unceremoniously picked up the little girl who was playing on the kang (a heated brick bed), and measured her by the waist.
"What's wrong, sister-in-law?" Qin Xiaoyu is getting closer to her now, and calls her that affectionately.
"Winter is almost here, and we haven't prepared cotton-padded pants for the children yet. I'll make some for both of them right away." After measuring the pants, the cousin-in-law called Hanhan over.
