“It doesn’t matter whether you have children or not. If you encounter a troublesome one, they’ll drive you crazy. It’s better to be alone and have peace and quiet. Your goddaughter is so dear to you, how could she be any worse than a biological daughter?” Captain Chen quickly poured the old lady another cup of wine.
“Yes, I have goddaughters and godsons, just like that!” Aunt Wang sniffed and laughed.
"I heard from Little Fish that the old lady can read palms, can you take a look at mine?" Captain Chen stretched out his big hand, which still had a piece of asphalt on it that he hadn't washed off. He quickly pulled it back and wiped it on his clothes.
“You’re so lucky! Thick palms mean you’re destined for wealth and good fortune in your later years. You’ll never lack money in your old age. You also have a wonderful wife who’s devoted to you. But…” Aunt Wang paused, and Captain Chen’s heart leaped into his throat.
"Just tell me directly, I'm not afraid."
“Your son is a bit of a worry. Just let him be, don’t interfere too much in his marriage. Children are always a burden.” Aunt Wang took the wine glass, poured a little wine onto the asphalt on Captain Chen’s hand, rubbed it vigorously a few times, and the color lightened a bit.
"It's alright, I'll wash it when I get home, it's fine!" Captain Chen casually withdrew his hand.
Qin Xiaoyu noticed that when Aunt Wang was wiping his hands, she was muttering something under her breath. She guessed that the old lady was trying to break his skin.
Captain Chen is a lucky man. He didn't even want anything, but someone else did everything for him.
After the meal, Qin Xiaoyu, thinking of her two children, quickly said goodbye and left.
“If you can’t find anyone to take care of the child, bring him here to me.” Aunt Wang was no ordinary person; she had sharp eyes and could see through Qin Xiaoyu’s thoughts. But after saying this, she immediately understood Qin Xiaoyu’s idea and smiled, “I’m afraid you won’t agree.”
Qin Xiaoyu laughed too. She really wouldn't dare speak so bluntly in front of everyone. Sending a child to a place of debauchery was bad, but was sending them to a superstitious place really a good idea? They were both equally bad, weren't they?
This time, Qi Si was smarter and hired two waiters to play with the brother and sister. The two children ran around until they were covered in sweat. Qin Xiaoyu took them home, but they hadn't had enough fun yet. They looked longingly at the children running around in the small square in the middle of the building complex and refused to go upstairs.
Qin Xiaoyu also understood that the two children were too lonely.
Back in the hairdressing school, there was a constant flow of people. At the Zhou family's place, a group of adults would fawn over them. Now, suddenly they've fallen from a great height, and they're either locked up in their rooms or gone for two days at a time.
Children need to live in groups, but they are not accepted here.
Qin Xiaoyu had already figured it out: this residential area was called the Municipal Party Committee Compound, located on the outskirts of the Municipal Party Committee compound, and the residents were all government employees. Although they weren't high-ranking officials, these days office workers tend to be a bit arrogant and think they're superior to others.
The incident involving Qin Xiaoyu caused quite a stir some time ago. Although she was eventually exonerated, there's a saying that flies don't lay eggs without cracks, so in their eyes, Widow Tang is no good.
Whether it was an order from each family or a problem with the children themselves, there was a unified and consistent rejection of Hanhan and her siblings.
Qin Xiaoyu tried twice, but when she realized something was wrong, she gave up hope.
"Mom, I want to play on the horizontal bar."
Qin Xiaoyu glanced at the direction of the horizontal bar and understood. There were several children around the same age as Hanhan, and he wanted to try it out and integrate into the group.
"Go on, son." Qin Xiaoyu smiled encouragingly, hoping that Hanhan could hone her problem-solving skills.
Hanhan didn't run to the other children immediately. Instead, she circled around the perimeter before walking to the empty horizontal bar, jumping up, grabbing it, and practicing two basic movements.
He had already attracted enough attention before he landed steadily, smiled at them in a friendly manner, and said softly, "My name is Hanhan, hello."
"You big idiot!" A boy suddenly jumped up and spat on Hanhan.
The boys burst into laughter.
Hanhan was suddenly humiliated and couldn't accept it. She took two steps back, her face flushed, and her little fists clenched.
Qin Xiaoyu stood at a distance, watching, her mind in turmoil. Should she go over there, or watch Hanhan fight them?
Hanhan had already taken a step forward. The child who had just spat was clearly a head taller than him. The comparison was even more obvious when they stood closer. The child was not to be outdone and took a step forward as well.
"You disagree!" He raised his hand and shoved at Hanhan. Hanhan had learned some boxing from the Zhou family for a few days, and although it was only the basics, he was very clever and knew how to apply what he learned.
Seeing the boy charging at him, he sidestepped, causing the boy's punch to miss.
The boy was completely unprepared for Hanhan's counterattack. Unable to stop his punch, he fell forward, and Hanhan took the opportunity to trip him. He lost his balance and lurched forward, landing squarely on a long bench. His nose hit the bench, and blood gushed out.
The children, never having seen anything like it, scattered in terror. The boy, covering his nose, cried out for his grandmother.
An elderly woman with bound feet, walking briskly, rushed out of the building, carrying a bunch of brooms in her hand.
When Qin Xiaoyu saw that Hanhan was about to suffer a loss, she rushed over and shielded him behind her.
"Who hit him?" the old lady questioned her grandson.
"Him!" The boy pointed behind Qin Xiaoyu.
"Did your child hit my grandson?" The old lady looked fierce and menacing. Judging from her posture, if Qin Xiaoyu dared to stop her, she would beat her up too.
"It was your grandson who bullied my son first!" Qin Xiaoyu wasn't one to back down, so she raised her head and shouted.
"My grandson's nose is bleeding, look!" The old lady picked up the boy and pushed him towards Qin Xiaoyu.
"Why didn't you step in when he was bullying people? He deserved it!" Qin Xiaoyu shoved the boy away.
"You dare to lay a hand on me? I saw it with my own eyes! You've gone too far!" The old woman shouted, her voice rising higher and higher.
People inside the building rushed out to see what was going on, crowding around in layers.
The old lady looked quite old, and some of the neighbors who knew her naturally spoke up for her, condemning Qin Xiaoyu and Hanhan. It was clear that they were at a disadvantage.
"Don't scare my child. If there's anything, talk to the committee." Qin Xiaoyu saw her younger sister clinging to her arm, trembling, and felt a little regretful.
"What are you saying? Let's talk things out. Your child hit my grandson, so let my grandson hit him back!" The old lady was holding a broom so high it was almost touching Qin Xiaoyu's nose.
With one hand protecting Hanhan and the other protecting her younger sister, Qin Xiaoyu was unable to use her hands to fight back and was in a very passive position.
"Don't push your luck!" Qin Xiaoyu was so angry that her face turned red, and she was about to lose her temper.
"Oh, this little wench, you think you're so great just because you know some big shot or something? Your dirty secrets are public knowledge, and you still have the nerve to show your face like this. You have no shame!" Seeing that there were many people around, the old lady decided to humiliate Qin Xiaoyu.
