"Little Fish, come back more often, look how happy Grandma is." Grandpa Hanhan's eyes reddened as he finished speaking.
Qin Xiaoyu knew he hadn't gone to pick up Grandma Hanhan, and she didn't want to persuade him. She still harbored resentment towards Grandma Hanhan; what she had done was truly disheartening. If she forgave her so easily, she would truly become a saint.
After dinner, Qin Xiaoyu rushed to clear the dishes. Aunt Yu had already gone home, and Grandpa Hanhan was watching TV with the two boys.
The wife returned to her room, curled up in the blankets, and remained silent, lost in thought, without turning on the light.
"Madam, have an apple." Qin Xiaoyu cut an apple and brought it in on a small plate.
"Little Fish, how are things going with the Zhou family?" That's the question the lady had been waiting to ask.
"I broke up with Zhou Xing. The Zhou family took me in as their goddaughter," Qin Xiaoyu said softly.
"Well, that's good. Some things just can't be forced. I'm relieved now."
"The Zhou family has been so good to the two children, I can't bear to hurt their feelings, so let's leave it at that."
"Yes, I heard from Wenwen that your Aunt Zhou saved your little sister. She can talk now, so let's live a good life."
"Madam, I'd like to invite you to stay with my cousin's wife. The house there is spacious, and you'll have someone to take care of you, which will put my mind at ease." This was also the purpose of Qin Xiaoyu's visit today.
“I know you’re worried about me, but I can’t leave this house, so I’ll stay here. With you here, Aunt Yu, I’m fine. I used to be taken care of all the time and didn’t get to move around much, but now that I can stretch my muscles a bit, I feel much more relaxed.”
"Madam, you are so old, and you still have to work so hard. I really can't bear it."
"Xiaoyu, I know you're filial, and I appreciate it all. As long as you take good care of the two children, I'll be satisfied. Filial piety doesn't mean forcing others. I won't force you to do things your way, and you shouldn't force me either, right?" The wife's words were forceful, leaving Qin Xiaoyu with no room to argue.
Has Longlong come over recently?
"He's been coming over quite often. Your cousin-in-law is worried and keeps sending him over. I think the child is fine." The lady finished speaking and smiled mysteriously.
Qin Xiaoyu then had a better understanding of the situation.
"Wenwen is such a worry, you'll have to keep an eye on her." The lady had a keen eye; although she didn't say it explicitly, she probably knew something.
Tang Wenwen resigned and went to the farm; she's been gone for several days. She doesn't even have a cell phone now, and Qin Xiaoyu is extremely worried about how long it will take for letters to reach her.
She finally got through to the headquarters by phone, then went around to the motorcade before finally finding Ge Laosao.
"Don't worry, sister, your sister-in-law has arranged everything perfectly." These words from Ge Laosao put Qin Xiaoyu at ease. It seemed Tang Wenwen was determined to have the child; she would just let her be.
Ever since Hanhan went missing, Qin Xiaoyu has been taking him to and from school every day without fail.
Although Grandma Zhang has been discharged from the hospital, she is too old to work hard anymore, so the task of taking care of the younger sister has fallen on Zhou Xing's mother.
After finishing her daytime tasks, Qin Xiaoyu would rush to pick up Hanhan from school, and then go to the Zhou family to pick up her younger sister. Often, the Zhou family would have already prepared a meal, so the three of them would have to eat and drink there before going home.
As soon as I entered the house that day, I saw Grandma Zhang leading my little sister over. I could hear laughter and chatter coming from the living room; it was a room full of guests.
"Grandma Zhang, do we have guests?" Qin Xiaoyu asked softly.
"Yes, we have a guest, and that guest is me!" Commander Wang laughed as he walked out.
"Aunt Wang." Qin Xiaoyu hadn't seen her for quite some time, so she went over and gave her a big hug.
Commander Wang's eyes reddened as she hugged him, and he hugged her back tightly. Out of the corner of her eye, Qin Xiaoyu suddenly saw a familiar figure—it was Master Wang.
"Master!" Qin Xiaoyu hurried over and pulled her over.
“You have no idea how timid your master is. He’s afraid the school will be taken back and he won’t be able to explain himself to you. He’s worried about you, so he only dares to sneak up on you near your house. He’s always wiping away tears. Sigh,” Commander Wang sighed.
"Little Fish, I was really scared when I was called here today..." Master Wang immediately shut up when he saw Zhou Xing's mother come out.
"Master, don't be afraid, they won't take the school back." Qin Xiaoyu smiled.
"Is everything over?" Master Wang asked again in a low voice, still not entirely at ease.
"It's over."
"That's great! Here, take the school back. I don't want it anymore," Master Wang said with a smile.
"No, I told you I'd give you the school, I never intended to take it back."
"Xiaoyu, I heard you rented another building near the new school. Why don't you open a branch school there?"
"No, I have other plans for the house over there. You and your mentor can run this school. I think it's better than the one I run." Qin Xiaoyu wanted to say goodbye to her past life. She didn't want to go back to where she started. Now that she had moved on, she had no intention of going back.
This meal was arranged by Zhou Xing's mother. It was a way to settle all the previous matters and give Commander Wang and the others an explanation. They had been old friends for decades, and because of Qin Xiaoyu, they almost had a falling out. She couldn't bear to let it go.
After the meal, Chef Wang called Qin Xiaoyu over again for a long chat. The mother and daughter alternated between wiping away tears and laughing. Zhou Xing's mother called the two children over and told them not to disturb them.
“I think they’re really good to you. Whether you and Zhou Xingcheng end up together or not, you’ve secured your place in this family. Why don’t you come back to school? With this school, you can make money even if you’re just lying around. You’re a woman, what’s the point of being competitive or striving for something? Just make enough to live on, why bother with all that hard work?” Master Wang always thought things through for her.
“Master, this is just who I am. Don’t try to persuade me. Let it be. I have no interest in school anymore. Just keep doing your job well. You can split the money you earn. Just keep the books right. Aunt Wang helped us through this. We can’t betray our conscience and turn our backs on her after we’ve served her.”
“I understand what you’re saying, but she’s refused to accept money from the beginning, saying she’s managing it for you,” Mr. Wang said anxiously.
"It's okay, I'll talk to her later." Qin Xiaoyu understood Commander Wang's thoughts. She had always been a righteous person and had never wanted money from the beginning.
"Little Fish, let me tell you, one shouldn't be greedy. You should know when to stop." Master Wang came today determined to return the school.
"Let me tell you the truth, my next business is even bigger, and I've already thought it through. There are some memories from the hairdressing school that I don't want to think about anymore, so I'll just let them go and pretend they never happened."
After seeing her mentors off, Qin Xiaoyu prepared to take her two children home.
"If you ask me, Xiaoyu, you should move in here. It makes me feel bad every night when I see you dressing my little sister. Doesn't the child get cold?" Zhou Xing's mother started nagging again.
“I said the same thing. Hanhan is so anxious to do her homework when she gets back that she can’t even eat properly. If she can just stay here, she can go upstairs and sleep right away. You won’t have to make things difficult for her.” Commander Zhou quickly added.
"Besides, you're living in someone else's house, and you'll have to return it sooner or later, which isn't convenient."
"How about we stay here for the winter and move out in the spring?"
"Yes, we'll stay here for the winter..."
