Chapter 242 Job Adjustment

Tang Wenwen was such a refined and elegant person, dressed appropriately and spoke with grace, so she assumed they had their own unavoidable difficulties and didn't press them for details.

After settling Tang Wenwen in, Qin Xiaoyu headed towards Zhou Xingjia's house.

Before she could even climb the steps, the door opened, and Zhou Yue ran out with her two children to greet her.

"Come inside quickly, you're all dressed so lightly."

"What's wrong with you? Didn't you get off the train a long time ago? It wouldn't take this long to get to the hospital. Mom and I were so worried," Zhou Yue complained.

“That’s right, you’re so heartless. Don’t you think about how worried your family is? You’ve been away for so long.” Zhou Xing’s mother also chimed in, siding with Zhou Yue.

"Mom, it's all my fault this time, causing Zhou Xing to suffer such a great injury." Qin Xiaoyu apologized as soon as she entered the door, after all, it was someone else's precious eldest son who was injured.

“It’s nothing for him to suffer a little. I’m just glad you’re alright.” Zhou Xing’s mother interrupted Qin Xiaoyu and then asked, “I just don’t understand, what were you two doing running off to the mountains?”

"I have something to take care of, we'll talk about it later." Qin Xiaoyu glanced at Zhou Yue, and Zhou Xing's mother understood.

Zhou Yue was so focused on showing off her achievements over the past two days that she was busy helping her younger sister change clothes that she didn't notice anything else.

This time, Zhou Yue designed an A-line jacket made of beige corduroy with brown trim. There are no extra decorations on the body, except for a round, brown and white panda embroidered on the chest.

"It's so beautiful! You've made ordinary corduroy so much more valuable," Qin Xiaoyu exclaimed.

"It wasn't done by me alone. I designed it, and my cousin-in-law helped me with the difficult parts. I only did the straight lines." Zhou Yue didn't take credit and pushed her cousin-in-law to the forefront.

"This is the outfit. I'll check the weather forecast; it'll be warm enough to wear out when it gets a little warmer. Then I'll take my little sister to the ring."

"A fight in the ring? That won't do, it's not safe," Zhou Xing's mother quickly stopped her.

"Mom! I was just using an analogy. Look at you, I'm my little sister's real mother," Qin Xiaoyu said coquettishly.

"You're my biological mother? I don't see what a biological mother looks like, humph!" Zhou Xing's mother was holding her anger in.

Qin Xiaoyu went upstairs to take a shower, and when she came out, Zhou Xing's mother was already waiting in the room.

"Mom, look at your temper, are you going to interrogate me?" Qin Xiaoyu sat down next to her, leaned her head on her shoulder, closed her eyes, and then realized that she was very tired.

"If you don't tell the truth, I'll be worried sick. Tell me, what is it?"

"It's my sister-in-law, she's pregnant." Qin Xiaoyu had no other choice.

"What? She's not married, is she? Who's the father of the child?" Zhou Xing's mother was shocked. Qin Xiaoyu could understand; in those days, premarital pregnancy was a huge scandal.

"It's Jing Tian's."

"It's him? No wonder he's been looking for you like crazy." Zhou Xing's mother breathed a sigh of relief, but her expression quickly turned serious again.

"Then what should we do? Abort it?"

“She refused; she wanted to give birth.”

“This is not a good situation. How can a woman live without a husband and with a child? You are perfectly legitimate, but society does not accept you, let alone the fact that she has never been married.” Zhou Xing’s mother was speaking the truth.

"She's very stubborn and has a strong personality. I can't persuade her. What can I do?"

"Xiaoyu, I'm not trying to scare you, but your mother-in-law isn't a smart person. If she finds out, you'll probably end up doing all this for nothing and getting no credit. If you ask me, you should try to persuade her to get an abortion."

"Mom, I can't have an abortion anymore, I'm almost seven months pregnant," Qin Xiaoyu said with a bitter smile.

"This..." Zhou Xing's mother was also worried.

"What are you talking about? My dad is back. He told Xiaoyu to go upstairs to find him," Zhou Yue came in to relay the message.

Qin Xiaoyu sensed that Commander Zhou had something on his mind while she was in the hospital, and now she was even more certain of her opinion.

"Little Fish, let me ask you something. What kind of person is this Dr. Deng?"

"Brother Deng is an educated youth. His family has been practicing traditional Chinese medicine for generations. I heard that his medical skills are very high and he has many ancient prescriptions." Qin Xiaoyu told him everything she knew and also mentioned what happened at the guesthouse.

"This man is truly remarkable; he understands how to conduct himself in society. It's a pity he's wasted in such a remote mountain village," Commander Zhou said thoughtfully.

“He said he wanted to return to the city, but his wife is a local resident and he can’t take her with him. He can only get a fake divorce, but he’s afraid something might go wrong, so he’s been putting it off until now.”

"This man saved your lives and is our family's benefactor. I'd like to help him get transferred out. What do you think?"

"That's wonderful! It's clear he really wants to leave the farm, and he's very willing to take this step for his children's education." Qin Xiaoyu knew that Deng Jianyan had always dreamed of leaving the farm, and now that Commander Zhou had given his consent, the matter was probably settled.

"This is what I'm thinking: he wants to return to the city and go back to his hometown. I seem to have limited ability and can't help him from a distance. I wonder if he would agree to be transferred to this city."

"Should I ask?" Qin Xiaoyu saw through Commander Zhou's idea and volunteered.

"Alright, I'll leave this to you. I'll get back to you as soon as possible." Commander Zhou nodded in satisfaction.

Making a phone call from the Zhou family's house was relatively much easier. Even so, hearing Deng Jianyan's voice over the phone was quite a hassle, taking a full half hour.

She first called the field headquarters, then transferred the call from the main unit to the vehicle team. Brother Ge then ran to the clinic and finally called Deng Jianyan over.

"That's great! As long as we get out of this awful place, anything is fine!" Deng Jianyan's voice trembled slightly upon hearing Qin Xiaoyu's words.

Commander Zhou was always decisive and efficient. Two days later, when Qin Xiaoyu took her two children to the hospital to see Zhou Xing, the person standing in front of his bed in a white coat was Deng Jianyan.

"Brother Deng, so fast!" Qin Xiaoyu asked in surprise.

"Yes, they told me to come and report for duty right away, so I'm coming right now."

"Where are your sister-in-law and the child?"

"They're preparing to move. The military will provide a vehicle and pick them up in one trip. They don't have much anyway, so they'll get rid of anything they don't need."

"Where will you stay?"

"Commander Zhou has made all the arrangements. The houses have been allocated, but they haven't been settled in yet."

"Okay, give me the house keys, I'll have someone tidy it up for you, and you can move in right away as soon as your sister-in-law arrives."

"That's not good. You've already gone to so much trouble with this job transfer," Deng Jianyan said, sounding extremely apprehensive.

“Old Deng, you weren’t like this when you were scolding me. If you change your personality, it will go against our original intention of helping you. Don’t lose yourself.” Zhou Xing, who had been silent all along, suddenly interjected.

"Tell me this! I'm just being polite. Fine, here's the key!" Deng Jianyan was so angry at Zhou Xing's words that he took out the key and handed it to Qin Xiaoyu.

With just one phone call, Captain Chen arrived with two of his men. Since there weren't many dormitories in the military region anyway, Qin Xiaoyu followed the map and went to the door.
