"You wait here," Deng Jianyan said and left. A little while later, he returned with a pair of crutches.
Qin Xiaoyu didn't dare to be picky anymore and accepted it.
"This isn't convenient, is it? Should we get a wheelchair?" Zhou Xing's mother said worriedly.
"Mom, Mom, please!" Qin Xiaoyu almost burst into tears.
Driving is out of the question, so Qin Xiaoyu needs a driver, but she hasn't found Qi Si yet.
Qi Si was happy to go everywhere with her, but he was impatient and would make a fuss after a while, so Qin Xiaoyu called Ding Xiaoru over.
"Sister Xiaoyu, I want to open a branch of Liunian Xiaozhu." Ding Xiaoru's ambitions are also quite large.
"Okay, you can take care of the arrangements." Qin Xiaoyu had a high opinion of her abilities.
"Then I'll really begin."
"I wasn't joking," Qin Xiaoyu smiled. Ding Xiaoru is becoming more and more beautiful. She was already an outstanding girl, and now, with Riyue Clothing, she looks even more beautiful when she dresses up.
"Sister Xiaoyu, isn't that funny? The other day my sister brought a few colleagues over, all of them driving sports cars. They're usually very fashionable and always buy clothes from Guangzhou or Hong Kong. But after seeing this place, they immediately said they'd buy their clothes here from now on, because it's cheap and trendy." Ding Xiaoru said with a smile.
"Xiaoru, do you think we should expand outwards a bit?" Qin Xiaoyu felt the time was almost ripe.
"Sister Xiaoyu, I think you should go out for a walk and see what's going on outside," Ding Xiaoru actually reminded her.
As she passed by the construction site, she noticed that another floor of Bai Weiwei's building had been erected. At this rate, it would definitely be completed by the end of the year, which meant that there would be a fierce battle between New Year's Day and the Spring Festival in 1986.
Seeing Qin Xiaoyu get out of the car leaning on her cane, her cousin-in-law rushed downstairs to greet her.
"What's wrong? Don't come over. Call me if you need anything."
"I can't stay still, look at you, always so restless," Qin Xiaoyu laughed, her gaze sweeping over Wang Lei's car in the yard.
"I'm tutoring Fengqin in her work-study course. Look, the exam is coming up soon," her cousin-in-law explained quietly, knowing what she was looking at.
"It's fine." Qin Xiaoyu has come to terms with it now. Tang Fengqin's happiness lies in living the life she wants. Any interference from others is unnecessary.
"I have something funny to tell you. It seems like Longlong has a girlfriend."
"Really? What family's daughter? That's wonderful!" Qin Xiaoyu exclaimed with delight.
She had always been worried about Tang Long. Ever since he lost an eye, his personality had changed a lot. Now he was engrossed in antiques, but he was still somewhat insecure and never wanted to interact with girls. It was rare for him to have changed his ways.
"I don't dare to ask either, you can try to get some information out of them."
"Mom, what were you saying to my aunt again?" Tang Long came out from inside, holding something in his hand.
"Your mother cares about you." Qin Xiaoyu had no choice but to make up a lie for her cousin-in-law.
"Auntie, this is for you." Tang Long handed over the lacquer box in his hand.
Qin Xiaoyu's eyes widened when she opened it. Women are generally powerless against jewelry; this set was stunning. The entire set was inlaid with jade, the necklace and earrings were exquisitely translucent.
"I bought it as glass at the morning market for two yuan," Tang Long said with a smile.
"Take this to your mother. I have too much stuff; my wife gave me some too." Qin Xiaoyu stuffed it into her cousin-in-law's hand.
“I won’t take it. Why would I take it to stand at the counter? You take it, you’ll need it. It makes you look good, it’s a reflection of Hengchang!” My sister-in-law stuffed it back to me.
"Hey, sister-in-law, you're injured?" Wang Lei came downstairs and his eyes widened when he saw the crutches.
"It's nothing, just a sprained ankle. How's Fengqin?"
"No problem with the preliminary test, you'll definitely pass." After Wang Lei finished speaking, Tang Long had already turned and left. Qin Xiaoyu also knew that she had asked the wrong question. For Tang Long, the college entrance examination was an insurmountable obstacle.
"Sister-in-law, let's talk." Wang Lei followed Qin Xiaoyu upstairs and sat down by the window at Liunian Xiaozhu.
"What do you want to talk about?" Qin Xiaoyu had already guessed. Wang Lei, Jing Tian, and Zhou Xing were best friends and were known as the Three Musketeers.
Wang Lei was no less hurt by Zhou Xing's situation.
“I went to see him. That guy is heartless; he didn’t even see me when he left.” Wang Lei’s eyes reddened.
"He must be very sad too." Qin Xiaoyu lowered her eyes, and a tear still fell unintentionally.
“We did see him when he came back. He cried very hard. I’ve never seen him cry like that before. He said he had to let go first.”
"Don't say anymore." Qin Xiaoyu felt as if her heart was being torn apart.
“You should still listen to him. He asked me to tell you that he’s gone, but you must live well, live for him, live a wonderful life, and finish the years he didn’t complete.” After saying this, Wang Lei took a deep breath and walked away.
Qin Xiaoyu raised her hand to cover her face, letting the tears flow freely.
Living a vibrant life is easy. Isn't her life vibrant enough? But no matter how I think about it, I feel sorry for him.
As June arrived, rainfall increased significantly, slowing down the progress of the project.
Qin Xiaoyu recovered quickly under Deng Jianyan's care.
But ever since Commander Zhou was discharged from the hospital, she has been confined to her home. The elderly couple watched over her alone, and she felt helpless.
I wake up naturally every day, walk downstairs on my cane, and the food is always on the table, still warm.
When the sun came out, they would accompany her outside to sit for a while. Qin Xiaoyu coaxed Commander Zhou to start talking, telling him about his experiences fighting in the war when he was young.
As the old man spoke, he fell silent, gazing into the distance, lost in thought. Qin Xiaoyu and Zhou Xing's mother sat quietly beside him.
Everyone has a tendency to be lazy, and Qin Xiaoyu quickly became lazy, getting up later and later each day and not wanting to go out to bask in the sun.
"Sunbathing helps with calcium absorption," Zhou Xing's mother repeatedly emphasized, and the three of them became a unique sight in the military compound.
Qin Xiaoyu ate sea cucumber soup and American ginseng every day, and unknowingly gained two pounds.
"Little fish looks better when she's chubby, look how round she is." Zhou Yue looked at her with affection, as if she were a precious work of art, and she couldn't get enough of her.
Which woman likes to be told she's fat? Qin Xiaoyu pinched her cheek, revealing a face full of collagen. She quickly hopped to the mirror on one leg. Who was this fair-skinned, delicate woman?
"Walk properly, why are you jumping around?" Zhou Xing's mother scolded as she handed over the crutches.
"Mom, I've gained weight!" Qin Xiaoyu frowned and twisted her waist.
"You look better when you're chubby," Zhou Xing's mother coaxed, worried that her daughter wouldn't eat properly.
"Women need to have some curves. Look at you, you used to have no breasts or hips, like an underdeveloped schoolgirl. Now you look much better." Zhou Yue chuckled and patted her bottom.
"Auntie Xiaoyue!" A faint voice called from outside. Before the people inside could react, Zhou Yue opened the door and ran out.
"Is it Lisheng?"
"What happened?"
Qin Xiaoyu, worried, came out leaning on her crutches, with Zhou Xing's mother close behind. Zhou Yue and Lisheng had already run towards the Deng family's house.
