If their relationship really did happen outside, it would be easier to investigate, because nowadays you need a letter of introduction to stay in a guesthouse. Given Qi Yanzi's situation, it's impossible for him to take her to her home. Dong Changping's home is in Henan, and he has no relatives here, let alone anywhere else to go.
“That’s hard to say. Who can keep an eye on someone who’s just gone out for a stroll during the day? To put it bluntly, if they go into the woods, ten minutes is enough! You can’t just tie them to a tree, can you?” Teacher Zhang said indignantly, now venting all her anger on the adulterer.
After leaving Teacher Zhang's house, Qin Xiaoyu was in low spirits, and there had been almost no progress. Taking this to the police station now wouldn't be of any use.
"Let's go get something to eat, you must be hungry." A Lei parked the car on the side of the road. Qin Xiaoyu glanced at the restaurant's name, her heart ached dully, and her face turned pale instantly.
"Let's try another one."
"Okay." Aredo drove off without asking a single question.
Qin Xiaoyu had no appetite and only drank a mouthful of porridge at the steamed bun shop. A Lei, on the other hand, was in high spirits and ordered one of each kind of steamed bun, but he couldn't finish them all. He took a bite out of each one and neatly placed it aside.
"You're so childish." Qin Xiaoyu tapped his plate with her chopsticks angrily.
"I'm just getting a feel for the local culture; this is learning." A Lei blinked his eyes, looking aggrieved.
"Let's get down to business, lawyer, what should we do!" Qin Xiaoyu slammed her chopsticks down in frustration.
"Keep looking for evidence."
Where to look?
"Aren't there other teachers? Don't let any of them get away."
"I don't think it will be of much use," Qin Xiaoyu said, somewhat discouraged.
How will you know if you don't try?
Ms. Zhu has a fiery temper and is a retired employee of Dongfeng Motors, so this incident had the least impact on her.
“You little slut, I could tell she wasn’t proper the first day she arrived. Look at her hips, how wide they are! Is she even a young woman?” Teacher Zhu spoke crudely, and Qin Xiaoyu blushed, not daring to look up at A Lei.
"She wasn't pregnant when she came to school, was she?" A Lei interjected.
"Hard to say, she talks about kimchi the most, eating half a bowl at every meal. Everyone else is careful with their food, but she just keeps eating it, one bite after another, without a care in the world. Huh? Isn't it said that sour foods mean a boy and spicy foods mean a girl? Is she having a girl...?"
Qin Xiaoyu almost laughed out of anger. Gossiping at a time like this? They've gone off-topic! She knew that what Teacher Zhu said might not be true. These women were used to exaggerating and making things up. She had suffered from it before, and when they were making up stories about her, she almost believed them herself.
A Lei took out a small notebook from his pocket, glanced at it, and said to Qin Xiaoyu, "Judging from the pregnancy period in her medical record, she must have gotten pregnant after coming to school."
"That's terrible! How can you explain that?" Teacher Zhu exclaimed anxiously.
"Could the child really be Dong Changping's? Is he afraid of taking responsibility and dare not admit it?" Qin Xiaoyu also wavered.
"We can't see Dong Changping in person right now, there's nothing we can do." A Lei shook his head.
After leaving Teacher Zhu's house, Qin Xiaoyu was completely disheartened. It seemed like it was a foregone conclusion that Master Wang would inevitably go to jail.
Without asking her, A Lei drove straight to the riverbank.
Qin Xiaoyu walked onto the river bridge. The wind was strong, making her hair flutter wildly. Staring at the surging river, she asked herself, "Was I wrong?"
Without the hairdressing school, Ms. Wang could have lived a peaceful life, but now she will spend the rest of her life in prison.
"Are you sad?" A Lei asked cheekily as he approached.
"I would thank you if you didn't talk so much nonsense," Qin Xiaoyu said with a wry smile.
“That’s no nonsense, I care about you.” Are shrugged.
"Then no need, thank you." Qin Xiaoyu walked down the bridge, determined to make one last effort regardless of the outcome.
"That's more like you, Qin Xiaoyu." A Lei jogged over, but was too late and managed to grab the driver's seat.
"Let's go to the school and take a look," Qin Xiaoyu said, having run out of ideas.
The school has been locked ever since the incident, and there are still seals on it. Qin Xiaoyu puffed out her cheeks and tried to breathe.
"Come on." A Lei nimbly leaped up and was on top of the wall in the blink of an eye, not at all like someone who had just had stitches.
"Aren't you afraid your wound will reopen?" Qin Xiaoyu said irritably.
“It was much more brutal back in college football. Come on up!” Are said nonchalantly, extending his hand to her.
Qin Xiaoyu was wearing a thin woolen dress, and although she was wearing leggings underneath, she was still a little hesitant.
"Come on up, what are you afraid of?"
"Who said I'm scared!" Qin Xiaoyu glared, took a few steps back, sped up, put her hands on the wall, and was lifted onto the top of the wall by A Lei.
Going down would be much more embarrassing, but Ah Lei, being daring, jumped straight down. Qin Xiaoyu glanced at him for a long time, feeling panicked. She made up her mind to take off her shoes and throw them on the ground.
A Lei just stared at her like she was watching a show, without reaching out.
"Give me a hand!" Qin Xiaoyu felt that she had been tricked. Talking to A Lei about the ability to collect evidence was all nonsense. He just brought her up here to embarrass her.
"Jump, I'll catch you." A Lei finally showed mercy and opened his arms.
"No." Qin Xiaoyu shook her head vigorously.
"Jump now, or I'm leaving." A Lei grabbed her ribs and pretended to climb back up the wall.
Two men on bicycles approached from a distance on the road outside, and Qin Xiaoyu panicked.
"Come back, I'll jump!" Qin Xiaoyu jumped down with his eyes closed. A Lei's arms were strong and he caught him in his arms. However, Qin Xiaoyu lunged forward and the force was too great. He was pushed back a few steps and fell backward.
When Qin Xiaoyu opened her eyes, she was lying on top of A Lei, their eyes meeting. Startled, she quickly stood up, smoothed out her skirt, and ran to pick up her shoes.
Once inside the building, things were relatively easier. However, in their haste to apprehend the thief, two windows hadn't been closed. Qin Xiaoyu and A Lei climbed in and found some messy footprints on the floor, indicating that a thief had been there, and the losses were likely substantial.
But compared to the 23 people locked up, what does this amount to?
Qin Xiaoyu and the others entered the men's dormitory, which was very messy and almost impossible to walk in.
After leaving the men's dormitory, Qin Xiaoyu went up to the second floor. The iron door on the stairs was open. Just this one door determined whether men and women lived together. What a terrible era.
The second floor was better than the first floor, and there were hardly any footprints on the floor. Qin Xiaoyu glanced at the end of the corridor, where her old office used to be.
She walked over, pushed open the door, and found that the room was no longer being used as an office. Master Wang didn't have time to come in and sit down either; she was tired, so she went straight to her dormitory to lie down.
The room was filled with miscellaneous items. Qin Xiaoyu walked sideways to the north window.
Countless times, she looked towards the Zhou family home from here, back when Zhou Xing was still alive. Now she lives there, but Zhou Xing will never appear again.
