Chapter 34 Preparing to Accept

"What's wrong? What did you see?"

"You can become the richest person in our country." Grandma Wang murmured as if in a dream, and the room immediately burst into laughter. Several old ladies laughed together, and Master Wang could hardly straighten his back, wiping away tears while holding onto the back of his chair. Qin Xiaoyu only had a polite smile on her lips. Deep down, she thought, yes, she will become the richest woman.

She returned home early on Monday as usual. Hanhan had already eaten in the main room, and Hanhan's grandmother made an exception and brought over a steamed bun and a bowl of soup.

"I saved this for you, just have a bite."

"Thank you, Mom." Qin Xiaoyu said politely. Grandma Hanhan was a little embarrassed, but she didn't leave right away. She turned around and rubbed her hands together.

"Mom, is something wrong?" Qin Xiaoyu understood her body language very well.

"Your wife has been complaining of a cold stomach and frequent hiccups these past few days. Why don't you call Wenwen and ask her about it?"

"This must be a stomach chill. Eat some ginger candy to get rid of the cold." Qin Xiaoyu was impressed that Wenwen had to ask her for such basic common sense.

"My wife refuses to eat ginger candy. She has bad teeth, and it takes her a long time to chew a big piece. She has to wash her hands after each piece. When the weather gets cold, she has to add hot water to her hands. I have to cook and do laundry, so I don't have time to run back and forth to get water for her to wash her hands," Grandma Hanhan rambled on.

"I understand. I'll think of something tomorrow." Qin Xiaoyu simply dismissed her. People with so much negativity always manage to make a big fuss over small things, causing trouble for everyone.

During the day, when there were fewer people, she went to the store and bought a pound of fruit candy and a pound of ginger candy. The ginger candy didn't have any wrappers; large and small pieces were mixed together. She used scissors to cut them into roughly the same size, removed the wrappers from the fruit candies, wrapped the ginger candy inside, and delivered it directly to the upper room after get off work.

"Why did you come to my room first after getting off work?" The wife's words were not what they seemed. She was clearly happy to see Qin Xiaoyu come in, but she deliberately made her displeasure sound in her words.

"I brought you some ginger candy."

"I don't want to eat it, it's sticky..." The lady shut her mouth before she could finish speaking. Qin Xiaoyu took out a bag of ginger candy, all wrapped in candy wrappers.

"Try it, this way you won't get your hands dirty." Qin Xiaoyu unwrapped the candy and held it to his wife's lips.

"Hmm, this is good." The wife was very satisfied.

"Oh my, where did you buy this? I've never seen ginger candy with a package before!" Grandma Hanhan walked in, wiping her hands, and exclaimed in surprise upon seeing it. Qin Xiaoyu smiled but did not answer, but Grandma Hanhan had already noticed something amiss. She picked up a piece of candy, held it up for a closer look, and asked suspiciously, "This is a fruit candy wrapper."

"Yes, I peeled all the fruit candies and put them in a glass jar for the two boys. I used the candy wrappers to wrap ginger candy." After Qin Xiaoyu explained, even Grandma Hanhan was satisfied. She ran to the kitchen with her hands clasped together to check on the soup pot.

"Among all the people in this family, you're the only one who cares about me," the wife sighed.

"Madam, please don't wrong me. If my mother-in-law hadn't mentioned it, how would I have known you had a cold stomach?" Qin Xiaoyu didn't take credit for it. She knew that Grandma Hanhan had ears and could hear everything.

After leaving the main house, Qin Xiaoyu went into her cousin's house. She was still thinking about the electric heating caps. Her cousin had made five for her, and she planned to pay him some wages.

"What money? Why would we need money to make something like this? If you're so formal, our two families can't get along." The cousin refused outright. Qin Xiaoyu saw that he smelled a bit of alcohol and knew that she couldn't reason with him, so she gave her cousin's wife a wink and left.

"Sister-in-law, don't give me this money. You know my brother's temper. If I take this money, he'll definitely fight me to the death. Take it back." My sister-in-law seemed to be in a bad mood. After saying that, she turned around and went back into the house.

Qin Xiaoyu knew her cousin was stubborn, so she didn't dare to force him and thought she would repay the favor slowly.

There's something else bothering me these past few days. Seeing her shop doing so well, the landlord is still unhappy, always feeling that the rent is too cheap. But the contract is signed, and Qin Xiaoyu wrote it very meticulously, leaving the landlord no room to take advantage. So the landlord just comes up to find fault whenever he can. Today he said the door hinges are old, and the day after tomorrow he'll say the electricity bill is too high.

Qin Xiaoyu told the master to ignore her and let her do what she wanted. Seeing their lack of reaction, the landlord became even angrier and started complaining that the electricity bill was too high, telling them to contact the power company to have the meter disconnected.

Qin Xiaoyu had acted impulsively and really wanted to move the electricity meter, but a customer who was a sensible person analyzed the pros and cons for her, which scared her away.

It turns out that the electricity used by commercial properties is charged differently from residential electricity; it's called industrial electricity. Not to mention that relocating a meter costs several hundred yuan, this industrial electricity alone adds up to a significant amount of money per month. Now that they're connecting electricity from residential properties, it's a matter that the authorities won't interfere with and the people won't complain about. But if it really escalates, the fines will be more than enough for them to bear.

Qin Xiaoyu decided to face this matter.

The landlord came to their door again before they could even open for business. Qin Xiaoyu, who usually ignored her, was unusually friendly today and even called her "big sister."

When Master Wang heard this, he realized something was wrong. The landlady was over forty years old, and Master Wang usually called her "little sister." It wasn't inappropriate for Qin Xiaoyu to call her "aunt," but now she was calling her "sister." Wasn't this just asking for trouble?

Surprisingly, the landlord didn't seem upset at all upon hearing "big sister"; in fact, her expression softened a bit.

"Sister, I think your hair needs a trim. I don't have much work to do, so sit down and I'll fix it for you." Qin Xiaoyu pressed her down without saying a word. The landlady didn't struggle much, half-heartedly agreeing.

"Your shop is really doing brisk business. I'm guessing you must be making over a hundred a day, right?" the landlord started trying to get information out of the shop.

Normally, if this topic were brought up, Master Wang would definitely complain about how bad business was, but Qin Xiaoyu just wouldn't play by the rules.

"Yes, business is really good. It's all thanks to your good fortune, Sister." As she spoke, she reclined the landlord's chair and began washing her hair.
