Chapter 438: Another Slap in the Face

"Excuse me, I'm having a meeting upstairs. I heard there were some misunderstandings about the policy at the meeting here. Let me explain. Principal Qin doesn't need the Second Light Industry Bureau's approval to run a school. Just prepare the materials and come to the Education Bureau to apply. She is a natural person legal entity, and her running a school has nothing to do with the garment factory."

Director Zhang was all smiles, but Director Feng felt a burning pain in his face.

The people in the room listened to Director Zhang's explanation at first, then all looked as if they suddenly understood, and then looked at Director Feng together, as if asking, "And then?"

"Well, since there's a misunderstanding, let's leave it at that." Director Feng hastily announced the adjournment of the meeting.

Qin Xiaoyu and A Lei accompanied Director Zhang downstairs.

"Principal Qin, the country is now supporting re-employment training. You've made a good start, and we plan to promote and build momentum for you."

"That's great! Recruitment isn't going too smoothly right now."

"A good school is one that can solve employment problems, and we must support that. Don't worry, after the college entrance examination this fall, you should prepare to expand a few classes."

After seeing Director Zhang off, Qin Xiaoyu and A Lei went straight to Qi Si's shop for a free meal and drinks.

"I've been craving spicy food lately, so I'll ask Zhu Bao to bring me some tripe for hot pot," Qin Xiaoyu told the waiter.

“You have too much internal heat and weak liver qi, so you have a poor appetite. Eating spicy food will only make things worse,” A Lei said with dissatisfaction.

"Did you learn this from your brother-in-law?" Qin Xiaoyu was speechless. A Lei got along well with everyone in the family; his emotional intelligence was even higher than his IQ.

“I’m bored. I’ve read a lot of books and wait for you every day.” A Lei’s eyes suddenly looked a little lonely.

"Wait for me? Why are you waiting for me?" Qin Xiaoyu asked, puzzled.

"By the time you see me, your world will be too crowded for me to get in."

"If we can't get in, we'll just have to squeeze in." After saying that, Qin Xiaoyu felt something was off and gulped down two mouthfuls of tea.

"Stop joking. When are you going to prioritize our affairs and put them on your agenda?" A Lei was unusually serious.

"Wait a little longer. Once I've settled things at the school, I'll arrange things for us." Qin Xiaoyu recalled a saying: it's difficult to have both a career and a family. Now, it seems that this choice is also facing her.

Thinking about it carefully, she could understand A Lei's predicament. She was extremely busy every day, and by the time she got to bed at night, she was exhausted. She rarely had the energy for romance, and mostly just went through the motions, which was unfair to A Lei.

"Okay, you said it, so I'll believe you this once." When A Lei saw the waiter bring in the tripe, he quickly took it.

"The kitchen staff said Brother Bao isn't here, and Brother Cheng's wife is about to give birth, so they've both gone to the hospital." The waiter was familiar with Qin Xiaoyu.

"Oh my god, such a big thing, and I didn't even know!" Qin Xiaoyu slapped her forehead in frustration.

“You’re so busy, you’re not a god.” A Lei ignored her and started eating.

Qin Xiaoyu's greatest strength is her excellent appetite. The two of them devoured the tripe in no time and then drove to the hospital.

Upon entering the corridor, I saw Qi Si and Xiao Si's wife sitting head to head on a bench, whispering to each other.

"Oh, you come in and get dog food right away," Qin Xiaoyu said, pouting.

"You two can be a couple, what's wrong with us? Even old married couples need to talk about love, right?" Qi Si retorted, not one to tolerate her.

"How's it going inside?" Qin Xiaoyu chuckled.

"She's been inside for half a day. Xiaoru is in a lot of pain and is timid, so she insisted that Cheng Fuxing stay with her. I gave him some money and got him in too..."

The delivery room door suddenly opened, and several nurses rushed out, pushing a cart and shouting, "Family! Family member, please receive this!"

Ding Xiaoru's family gathered at the door and suddenly surrounded her; no one dared to move.

Qin Xiaoyu and the others squeezed through the crowd to take a look at the hospital bed, and were stunned. Lying on it was Cheng Fuxing, who had a pale face.

"He's already had his injection, get him out of here, don't make things worse!" the nurse said irritably.

Qin Xiaoyu was both amused and exasperated, so she had no choice but to help push Cheng Fuxing aside.

"Xiaoru, you've suffered so much." Cheng Fuxing sat up and burst into tears.

"This little man from the South, really..." Xiaoru's mother looked at her son-in-law's cowardly appearance, feeling both annoyed and amused.

"Exactly, it's like every woman has children, yet his wife is treated like a precious gem." A gossipy onlooker chimed in.

“If a man thinks his wife is precious, then she is precious. My daughter is lucky. How many wives have been giving birth while their husbands refused to leave the mahjong table? Sigh, you still have to marry the right person.” Xiaoru’s mother said that she was fine with any son-in-law, but she wouldn’t allow others to say anything, and she directly retorted.

"She's given birth! I can hear the movement inside!" Sister-in-law Xiao Si was listening intently through the crack in the door.

Qi Si was quick-witted and pulled her aside, otherwise she would have been hit by the door.

They brought Ding Xiaoru out from inside; a nurse was holding a baby girl in her arms.

"My daughter, my daughter," Cheng Fuxing cried again.

“Girls? Sure, you’re young, have another one.” Xiaoru’s mother was a bit sexist.

“Girls are our treasures too, one is fine.” Cheng Fuxing was still not happy, and took his daughter and held her himself.

"Isn't it said that Southerners are sexist?" Xiaoru's mother was a little confused and pulled Qin Xiaoyu aside to ask.

"There are all kinds of people in the South and the North, so there's no point in comparing them." Qin Xiaoyu saw Ding Xiaojie running over and hurriedly went to greet her, "Sister-in-law is here."

"She gave birth? A natural birth?" Ding Xiaojie asked anxiously, panting from running.

"Give birth to a big, healthy daughter. You'll be an aunt now." After saying this, Xiaoru's mother followed the others to the ward.

After watching the child for a while, Qin Xiaoyu came out of the house. There were too many people and the heating was too hot; she was almost suffocating.

"Sister-in-law, how are you?" Qin Xiaoyu hadn't heard much from Ding Xiaojie lately; she had lost contact with that branch of the family after her aunt died.

"Don't call me sister-in-law anymore, we're getting a divorce." Ding Xiaojie's eyes reddened, and she turned her face away.

After so many years of marriage, their relationship was broken; it was such a pity that their youth had been wasted. Qin Xiaoyu understood her feelings and took her arm, leading her to the window.

"A man like that is best left behind to cut your losses."

"You have no idea how outrageous he became later. At first, I threatened him with that incident, and he could restrain himself a little. But later it didn't work anymore. When the two kids were at school and not at home, he would bring her back and even want to eat at the same table as me!"

"Pah, that's disgusting!" Qin Xiaoyu almost vomited.

“He even told me that we could each do our own thing and that I should go out and find someone too. I’m not as despicable as him!” Ding Xiaojie said bitterly.

"You're divorced, who gets custody of the child?" Qin Xiaoyu finally remembered the key point.

"That's the crux of the matter. The two children are grown up, so custody isn't an issue. But after so many years together, I can't just leave with nothing. He's got a plan—no house, no money. It's also my fault for being naive. I've been out for a while now; I'll just have to see how things go."
