There's a small restaurant upstairs in the theater, and inside are several gas cylinders. Nobody knows when they might explode.
Flames were already visible from the second-floor window, and the situation was becoming increasingly dangerous.
All the firefighters have been evacuated.
"There are people up there!" someone suddenly shouted.
Qin Xiaoyu looked up and saw that it was A Lei standing on the small open-air platform protruding from the second floor, holding his little sister in his arms.
Although he closed the door leading into the house, the door was made of wood and was about to collapse from being licked by the flames.
"Catch her quickly!" A Lei shouted. The firefighters had already set up a large tarpaulin. The second floor wasn't very high, but Qin Xiaoyu's heart still trembled the moment she threw her little sister down.
The little girl rolled on the canvas, and Qin Xiaoyu pounced on her, caught her, and pulled her down.
"Mom." Her little sister hugged her neck tightly, and Qin Xiaoyu felt relieved upon hearing this.
Just as the firefighters opened the canvas again, the door behind Are was suddenly blown open by a blast of air, and his body was thrown out by the door panel.
A ball of fire roared past overhead.
Qin Xiaoyu instinctively pulled her younger sister down onto her.
A gasp rippled through the crowd, and they scattered in panic. Qin Xiaoyu struggled to her feet and staggered toward A Lei.
A Lei was lucky; he wasn't thrown directly forward by the blast wave and didn't land on the concrete ground, but instead rushed towards the pine forest to the east.
There is a dense pine forest over there. Before the city was built, it was part of the original forest, which was preserved when the theater was built.
When Qin Xiaoyu saw him, he was lying face down, surrounded by many broken branches. The door panel was burning not far away, and the dry pine needles were crackling and popping as they were set ablaze.
His black coat was torn to shreds, and the once tall man suddenly became very small, like a discarded rag doll.
He remained motionless.
"You can't die, you can't die, you can't die," Qin Xiaoyu murmured as she walked towards him step by step.
Her heart felt like it was being tightly gripped and twisted, the pain making it hard to breathe.
It was so close, but she dared not; she couldn't bear those few steps.
Paramedics rushed over, knocking her off her feet. It was like a scene from a movie, everyone busily and methodically moving about.
They turned him over, placed him on a stretcher, put on an oxygen mask, and carried him to the ambulance.
"Is he alive?" Qin Xiaoyu used her last strength to grab a nurse who was lagging behind.
"Alive." The nurse shook off her hand and chased after her.
"Thank God, he's alive. Alive." Qin Xiaoyu slumped to her knees, covering her face with her hands, tears streaming through her fingers. This was a gift from heaven, and she had to cherish it.
The dense, sturdy, and flexible branches cushioned Are's fall, leaving him with only abrasions and a broken right leg, but no internal injuries. The doctors said he was incredibly lucky, a miracle.
He was put on the operating table immediately to set his leg bone and put on a cast.
The younger sister was very clever and knew how to protect herself. Apart from being frightened, she was not seriously injured. Her hair was burned a little, but fortunately, she took after Qin Xiaoyu and had thick hair, so the slight burn was not noticeable.
Tang Fengqin is still in the intensive care unit. She has abrasions on her face and has inhaled too much toxic gas. She has not yet regained consciousness.
Wang Lei stayed close by, and the nurses cleared out any unauthorized people. Wang's family and his cousin's family guarded outside the ward.
Upon receiving the call, Qi Si immediately drove over to pick up the people and took them all back home, young and old.
Qin Xiaoyu instructed Qi Si to hand her younger sister over to Aunt Wang, and then stayed in A Lei's ward.
His leg has been set, put in a cast, and he's still receiving IV fluids, sleeping soundly.
"Little Fish." He called out in a daze, his eyes still closed.
Qin Xiaoyu quickly grasped his hand, but A Lei still didn't open his eyes. He just smiled, a slight upturn at the corner of his mouth.
This was a reaction to the anesthesia, as the doctor had mentioned. Qin Xiaoyu picked up his hand, which was red and purple from the ointment, and pressed it to her face, tears streaming down her face.
"Why are you crying? Afraid of becoming a widow again? Then you'll really become a Black Widow. If you're so capable, go ahead and kill me." This time, A Lei really opened his eyes, his voice tired and hoarse.
Even at a time like this, he still makes jokes; I really don't know how much pain she's in.
Qin Xiaoyu glared at him resentfully, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
"Silly girl, I'm fine, aren't I?" A Lei finally softened.
"Don't leave me, okay?" Qin Xiaoyu rarely softened her stance; now, she was willing to say any sweet words as long as he was willing to listen.
"Fool." A Lei closed his eyes and fell asleep, it was unclear whether he had truly been awake just moments before.
These two are chasing and retreating, when will this game ever end?
News of the fire kept coming in. Hearing the siren of an ambulance downstairs, Qin Xiaoyu ran to the window and watched in terror.
The death toll from the fire has risen to five, with more than ten injured. The entire theater has been burned down, making it a major accident.
If it weren't for A Lei's intervention, I'm afraid Little Sister would have been the sixth person.
It was later learned that Tang Fengqin had just finished announcing the program and hadn't reached the backstage area when the accident happened. She had a chance to escape first, but she turned back to find her younger sister, which is why she got trapped in the fire.
Fortunately, Wang Lei arrived in time; otherwise, he probably wouldn't have made it out alive.
Seeing that A Lei was fast asleep again and there was nothing else to do for the time being, Qin Xiaoyu drove Commander Wang home to get his things.
Wang Lei had to stay with her at night, and she also had to come and take care of A Lei.
"Little Fish, I really regret it now. If I had let Fengqin go to university, maybe this wouldn't have happened." Commander Wang cried so hard that his eyes were almost closed.
"If that's the case, then I'm also responsible. If I had stayed backstage, would Fengqin have just escaped and not had to come back to find Xiaomei? And would A Lei have broken his leg?" Qin Xiaoyu stumped Commander Wang, who could only lower his head and wipe his tears.
This may sound harsh, but it's the truth.
“Aunt Wang, you’re the most optimistic. Although something serious happened, at least everyone is alive, which is already a blessing from God. This whole family can overcome any obstacle!”
Everyone at home was sitting in Building 4 waiting for news. As soon as they returned, they kept asking about the situation.
"Hey sis, I'll go take care of A Lei," Qi Si volunteered.
"I'll go, otherwise I won't feel at ease. Brother, you take good care of the family. Everyone, young and old, has been frightened." Qin Xiaoyu assigned him the task.
Seeing that Commander Zhou and the others were all there, still wearing their coats, Qin Xiaoyu quickly arranged for them to rest.
"It's all good that everyone is safe and sound. Don't be so downcast. Dad, go to sleep. Sister-in-law Ge, you should go upstairs too. Xiao Jin, take your brothers back."
After calming her family down, Qin Xiaoyu went upstairs to her younger sister's room. Just as she was about to open the door, she saw Zhou Yue walking out with her big pregnant belly, and she stopped her.
"Mom's inside, and my little sister's almost asleep. Aunt Wang just performed a ritual to calm her soul, saying she should get a good night's sleep. Don't disturb her," Zhou Yue whispered.
"Then let her sleep with Mom."
"Are you going to keep her company?" Zhou Yue pressed.
"If I don't care, who will?"
