Chapter 471 Recognizing Godparents

It turns out that Wang Jian and Wang Meimei are not born of the same mother. Old Wang married Wang Jian's mother for a little over a year before she gave birth to him. Unfortunately, when he was a little over a year old, Wang Jian's mother died in a car accident. Old Wang had no elderly relatives to care for and needed to work, so he couldn't raise the child on his own. Therefore, he hastily married Wang Meimei's mother under the matchmaking of others.

Wang Meimei was born prematurely, and some people said that Meimei's mother had cheated on Old Wang, making him an unwitting father. No man can stand such gossip. But Meimei's mother was a tough nut to crack, and she stood up to him fiercely.

After a while, the person ran away again.

She ran away, abandoning her daughter. Old Wang originally had a son to raise, but now he had a son and a daughter, making his burden even heavier. He painstakingly raised the two children to six years old, when Meimei's mother came back.

Over the years, Old Wang had developed a deep affection for his daughter. Regardless of whether she was his own flesh and blood, he cared for her with the same devotion as if she were his own. For his daughter's sake, he forgave Meimei's mother.

Five years of peace passed in the family. Meimei's mother gave birth to a son and a daughter, then abandoned her six-month-old child and ran away again. This time, she declared that she would never return to this poor family, even if it meant death.

Old Wang was so desperate he wanted to die. This woman came back every time and laid an egg; he couldn't afford to support her.

After three years of agonizing waiting, someone finally came to propose marriage to him. The woman was a vegetable farmer from the suburbs, capable and a good homemaker, but she didn't have a city residency permit.

The words "capable of managing a household" touched Old Wang; he so desperately wanted a capable woman to help him.

He was dumbfounded when the woman drove into Old Wang's house in a grand procession with her brood of children.

What a terrible thing to do.

These aren't helpers; they're clearly a burden. A multitude of hungry mouths, like leeches, are clinging to him, trying to drain him dry.

From that time on, he could only numb himself with alcohol. He couldn't afford to live, and he couldn't afford to die.

In women's eyes, he was still useful; the few dozen yuan he brought home each month was his greatest advantage. He was a government employee, and that alone was enough to make people incredibly envious.

To keep him, the woman became pregnant with his child. Old Wang was devastated and wanted to have an abortion, but the woman made a scene and threatened suicide. Keeping the child was already an unbearable burden.

He had heard about Wang Jian's situation before, and it was what pained him the most. This child was his dearest flesh and blood, and his personality was like his own, but he couldn't even save himself, so who could he save?

He turned a blind eye to his stepmother's troubles.

Upon hearing that Wang Jian had been taken away, he instinctively guessed that it was Qi Si who was responsible. Suddenly, he felt a sense of relief; his son was now safe and sound, and his pathetic life no longer held any appeal.

I just received my salary, packed everything up and sent it over. As for the rest, I'll leave it to fate.

"Old Wang, is your factory not doing well either?" My cousin was still pressing for details.

"That's settled then, brother. I'm leaving now. Thank you again. I'll repay your kindness another time." Old Wang stood up.

"Don't go! I haven't finished speaking. I'm starting my own factory now, and I'm short a mold expert. You need to come and help me!" my cousin said anxiously.

"Me? Help you?"

“Yes, let’s not talk about it here. Go to my room. They’ll find this boring. You two chat.” My cousin, rarely so quick-tempered, dragged Old Wang away.

"Girl, I'm quite happy today. Wang Jian has taken after his father; he'll be a good man in the future." Qi Si was quite satisfied. He had been cornered a few days ago, and just thinking about Wang Jian's whole bunch of relatives made him feel nauseous.

Now that I understand his family's messy affairs, and that he didn't even know where Wang Meimei's bastard child came from, it's not worth getting angry about.

"Brothers, please sit down. I'm going upstairs."

"Hey sis, no offense, but why don't you give A Lei a call? What's the point of your pride? Seriously!"

"I understand!" Qin Xiaoyu ran out with a blush on her face.

Qin Xiaoyu hesitated upstairs for a long time, but still didn't have the courage to call Mrs. Fang. She decided to wait until Tang Wenwen got off work that evening and have her ask for the phone number.

"Hmph, all you do is bully me." Qin Xiaoyu pouted, her eyes stinging, and tears were about to fall again.

She didn't dare go downstairs early; she only came out for dinner when she estimated it was almost time.

Old Wang had changed his clothes and came out. Although they were his cousin's old clothes, he had cleaned them up and was still a handsome uncle. It seems that Wang Jian had completely inherited his good genes.

He was very uneasy, fidgeting, and barely dared to touch his chopsticks.

“I’m a year older than you, so call me brother. Little brother, this is your home, don’t be shy.” Qi Si busied himself pouring him wine.

"I'm not drinking anymore, really not drinking anymore, I want to quit drinking. What Lao Tang said to me today, I feel like I've seen a future again, I'll work with him from now on! I'm afraid my hands will shake when I'm drawing blueprints, so I'm definitely quitting drinking." Lao Wang protected his glass, and Qi Si was convinced by his words, so he didn't insist and sat back down.

"I knew it! How could my godson have that family of relatives?" Qi Si said smugly.

"Brother, I think you have some problems with your cervical spine?" Deng Jianyan had been observing the situation closely. This old Wang might become his in-law one day, so he had to keep an eye on him.

"Sometimes my hands go numb, I wonder if it's because of my cervical spine," Old Wang replied honestly, unaware of Deng Jianyan's background.

"I'll give you a massage, that's my specialty," Deng said smugly.

Zhou Yue and Xiao Jin weren't idle either; they exchanged glances, both knowing exactly what was going on, and the clouds dispersed.

Qin Xiaoyu had no interest in listening to their conversation. She stared blankly for a long time, biting her chopsticks, until her cousin-in-law, who was sitting next to her, nudged her, bringing her back to her senses.

"Eat some vegetables, you've gotten so thin." Her cousin-in-law placed a whole plate of her favorite dishes in front of her.

"She's thin, so what? She's done something good?" Commander Zhou harbored deep resentment.

"Look at you, the child is eating!" Zhou Xing's mother glared at him fiercely.

"You must call A Lei today!" Commander Zhou declared ruthlessly.

"Okay, Uncle," Qin Xiaoyu replied softly, putting down her chopsticks.

After finishing her meal, she didn't dare stay and get in the way, so she ran straight back upstairs.

Tang Wenwen called first, seemingly worried that she might be anxious.

"This is his room number. I'm coming over. Write it down." Tang Wenwen recited a string of numbers. Qin Xiaoyu was about to hang up when she heard Tang Wenwen say, "Don't call yet. I heard he went to the hospital."

"Oh." Qin Xiaoyu's heart sank, and she suddenly felt a little scared.

She missed more than just a little bit; A Lei was truly hurt, not just in his leg, but in his heart.

Qin Xiaoyu put down the phone and lay back down on the bed.

"Did you make a call or not?" Zhou Xing's mother chased after him.

"He went to the hospital." Qin Xiaoyu climbed up to Zhou Xing's mother, rested her head on her lap, and tears streamed down her face.
