"Is there any hope for this?" Zhou Yue asked. She sounded like a naive and innocent girl. Her already small eyes were swollen into slits. Her appearance was like something taken from Commander Zhou's face.
Zhou's mother glanced at her, then at Commander Zhou, her eyes clearly saying, "Who are these people? Did I give birth to this child? Did I choose this husband? Ugh, how shameful!"
"Come sit down and let me see." Qin Xiaoyu lifted Zhou Yue's hair, also feeling that Dongfeng had gone too far this time. If there was no personal grudge, this was a major accident.
"I told you not to go to Dongfeng! You didn't listen to me, now look at my hair!" Commander Wang was outspoken and lacked emotional intelligence. Zhou's mother's face darkened even more. Fortunately, they were best friends for many years, so they didn't fall out. They went off to argue in the side.
"I have two suggestions. One is to trim the burnt hair again, but I'm afraid it will be too short and the bride might not be able to accept it. The second suggestion is to put the hair up in an updo."
Qin Xiaoyu took a look and saw that all the hair curlers were burnt into a clump, the hair was damaged and would break with the slightest force, so it was impossible to restyle it because the hair had long lost its elasticity.
"Does it look good if I just put my hair up?" Zhou Yue pouted.
"It looks great! I can design a style for it."
As Qin Xiaoyu spoke, she looked around. There was nothing useful in the room; on the table were only a handkerchief and the bride's little red flower, not even a bouquet.
The Zhou family probably had a lot of jewelry, but perhaps not much to adorn their hair. What to do? Turning around, she saw Commander Wang—she'd found her savior! What didn't the dance troupe have?
"Commander Wang, if it's convenient, could I go and get some hair accessories from you? I want to have my hair styled in an updo."
"A headdress? An updo!" Zhou Yue was quite clever and immediately understood. Her small eyes sparkled with anticipation.
"What kind of behavior is this? Wearing a dance troupe's headdress! How can we face people like this!" Commander Zhou categorically rejected.
"Dad!" Zhou Yue suddenly stood up, rushed to Commander Zhou, pouted, stomped her feet, and twisted her waist in one smooth motion, just like a bullied little girl. Commander Zhou immediately cowered.
"Okay, do whatever you want, I have no objection."
Qin Xiaoyu almost burst out laughing, then quickly turned her face away. This was a high-class sweet romance novel; sigh, good fortune always belongs to others.
Zhou Xing took Commander Wang on another trip. When they returned, they saw that Qin Xiaoyu's updo was already taking shape. She studied it and realized that Zhou Yue had a baby face. She created a high sideburn to show off her smooth forehead, which made her face look longer and more elegant.
Qin Xiaoyu was quite satisfied with the headdresses they had retrieved. She guessed that Zhou Xing had made the decision; with Commander Wang's aesthetic sense, he couldn't have done something like this. These pieces of jewelry were all made of genuine materials. In those days, it wasn't common to make fakes. Props used in performances could only be made of real materials. Some of them were bought by the actors themselves and were considered personal items. Commander Wang had a lot of influence, so there was nothing he couldn't borrow.
Qin Xiaoyu chose a gold hairpin, then a red velvet flower, and finally inserted a red glass hairpin. Zhou's mother, who had initially been disdainful, couldn't help but approach for a closer look.
"Did you bring the cosmetics?" Qin Xiaoyu asked again.
"Here you find rouge, moisturizing oil, eyeshadow, and eyebrow pencil. This lipstick is mine." Commander Wang opened another small cloth bag. Qin Xiaoyu glanced at it and decided to make do.
"What time is the wedding procession?" Qin Xiaoyu needed to arrange the time.
"Wow, it's almost midnight already, and there are still more than four hours left," Commander Wang exclaimed excitedly.
"You all should get some sleep. The bride should be careful not to touch her hair while she sleeps, and apply a cold towel to her eyes. The swelling will go down by tomorrow morning. If needed, I'll come over to do her makeup tomorrow morning." After giving the instructions, Qin Xiaoyu began packing up her tools.
"You only have a few hours left, so don't leave. Stay here. There are plenty of rooms upstairs and downstairs." Commander Wang had a special relationship with the Zhou family, so he made the arrangements directly.
"Stay here. Oh, and by the way, get my hair done too," Zhou's mother said, seizing the opportunity.
"Okay." Qin Xiaoyu turned back and looked at Zhou's mother's hairstyle. Hairstyles in this era were almost all copied and pasted; either a head full of puffy curls or a straight, thin style. Older people preferred to put their hair up. Zhou's mother's hair was a bit long, already past her shoulders when let down. She had styled it into a bun at the back of her head, which hung heavily down and was covered with a black hairnet. This was clearly a hairstyle for someone over fifty.
She looks very young. If you didn't know she had such a big son and daughter, you would believe she was thirty. Her skin was fair and smooth, with a porcelain-like luster. Her eyes were as deep as Zhou Xing's, as if they could pierce straight into people's hearts.
A high, straight nose is too masculine for a woman, and her lips are much rounder than Zhou Xing's, naturally beautiful without makeup. Zhou's mother and Commander Wang are the same age, but they have different kinds of beauty. Her beauty is more composed and dignified, naturally possessing an air of elegance and nobility.
"Just a simple tidying up is fine, I'm too lazy to do my hair." Zhou's mother revealed the secret behind her updo, which was indeed due to her extreme laziness.
Qin Xiaoyu had brought her tools, so it wouldn't have been a hassle to scald it, but after hearing what she said, she changed her mind and decided to try something different.
During her university years, her roommates were all fashion-conscious and would always help each other comb their hair. She learned her basic hairstyling skills from them. Of course, they weren't doing old-fashioned hairstyles from the 1980s; they were all trendy, fashionable styles.
"Why don't you wash your hair? I'll design a hairstyle for you."
Seeing Zhou Yue's appearance, Zhou's mother was relieved and obediently went to wash her hair. When she sat back down, Qin Xiaoyu had already prepared the hair dryer.
"Please take off your jewelry." Qin Xiaoyu brushed her hair aside and put on her emerald earrings. Zhou's mother reached out and took them off, placing them on the table. Commander Wang came over with the box.
