"Miss Qin, Mr. Zhu asked me to take you back to your hotel." A man dressed as a driver approached, and Qin Xiaoyu quickly followed him out.
A Lei wasn't in the room, and he didn't show up until the next court appearance.
Qin Xiaoyu was a little panicked this time. No matter what, getting Tang Long out of trouble was a big deal, and she couldn't let Tang Long get hurt because of her.
Fortunately, when the trial began, A Lei was standing at the defense table, and Qin Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief.
A Lei didn't even glance at her, as if he were just a lawyer doing his duty, and his relationship with Qin Xiaoyu was merely that of client and attorney.
This court hearing was to prosecute Tang Long for fraud. Neither side had any objections to the previous evidence, and Qin Xiaoyu already felt a sense of despair.
It seems that this is all A Lei can do; let's try to reduce his sentence as much as possible.
“The defendant now has new evidence and witnesses to testify.” Are stepped forward and handed over a document.
The judge looked on with surprise.
Is this true?
"Of course, the person has arrived. Please summon him, sir."
"A new witness, Tu Su, has been summoned to court."
Who the hell is Tu Su? Qin Xiaoyu quickly searched her memory; the name sounded familiar, but she couldn't find any information about it.
The door opened, and a man with long, flowing hair walked in.
Tu Su! Qin Xiaoyu suddenly remembered that he was a famous designer in China, but he was already over sixty when she attended his classes.
What is he here for?
“I testify that the three-legged cauldron is my work. It has been modified several times, and the original mold is still in the kiln in my hometown. If needed, you can go there to retrieve it as evidence.” After taking his oath, Tu Su began to give his testimony.
An uproar erupted in the courtroom.
"Sir, this is the problem. The three-legged cauldron sold by the defendants Tang Long and Zhang Xiaofeng is not an antique, but a work of art. The value of a work of art cannot be estimated according to market price. If it were just a fake, an ordinary imitation bronze cauldron, and sold for 200,000, it would be fraud. But it is a work of art, and its artist's masterpiece has been sold for 300,000. In this case, the charge of fraud is no longer valid."
Upon hearing this, Qin Xiaoyu was already about to applaud.
Ah Lei is indeed a cut above the rest. He first cleared Tang Long of the crime of reselling cultural relics, and then turned the fakes into works of art, achieving his goal through a roundabout approach. He's really brilliant.
“Your Honor, the main point of contention in this case is whether it’s an antique or an artwork. The defendant grew up in a small northern city. He lost an eye in a car accident during middle school, which affected his college entrance exams. He dropped out of school and made a living by collecting scrap. He has no higher education. Their native language is Chinese, but the buyer spoke English during the transaction. With the help of a translator, they couldn’t accurately express their wishes.” At this point, the judge nodded.
The audience was buzzing with discussion. Initially, seeing Tang Long with one eye covered, they didn't think he was a good person at all. Now they realized that the blindfold was from a car accident, and his background was truly pitiful. He also looked much more honest. Upon closer reflection, they realized that his mistake was simply due to ignorance, which was completely forgivable.
A Lei successfully turned the tables on Tang Long. And just like that, Tang Long and Xiao Pang were acquitted in court.
As Qin Xiaoyu led them out of the courthouse, she saw Jing Tian's figure vanish in a flash.
"Your tickets are here. You'll be leaving immediately." Attorney Sun took them directly to the airport.
Qin Xiaoyu was on tenterhooks until the plane soared into the blue sky, at which point she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Only then did she realize that A Lei hadn't said a single word to her.
Wang Lei picked them up at Baiyun Airport. Upon seeing Tang Long, he gave him a bear hug without saying a word.
"Your test results are in?" Qin Xiaoyu asked excitedly.
Before this, no matter how she explained or did the work, Wang Lei stubbornly refused to interact with others, keeping a distance of half a meter and not daring to look up when speaking.
There's only one reason why he could hug Tang Long: the alarm has been lifted.
"Yes, I picked up the report this morning. We can go home together now!" Wang Lei opened his arms. Qin Xiaoyu nestled into his embrace; this hug was hard-won.
After all this trouble, it was already the end of June. Two of the buildings in front had been topped out, and construction had begun on the other two.
The house has been transformed into a beautiful garden by Hanhan's grandfather and Commander Zhou. When Qin Xiaoyu left, it was still in its infancy, but now it is thriving.
We invited Director Zhang and his family over for dinner that evening.
"The family is reunited!" Commander Zhou looked at everyone present and was filled with emotion.
Tang Long and Xiao Li's wedding was urgently put on the agenda, and the family didn't want to delay any longer. Aunt Wang chose the nearest date, just half a month later, and everyone busied themselves with preparations.
"When is A Lei coming back?" Zhou Xing's mother asked Qin Xiaoyu in a low voice.
"He's not coming." Qin Xiaoyu tried to act nonchalant as she said this, but her lips trembled and she burst into tears. It turned out that she cared so much.
"Is it beyond repair?" Zhou Xing's mother refused to give up.
"cannot."
Qin Xiaoyu decided to rest at home for a while; she needed to heal her injuries. Besides, she had been away for some time and hadn't had time to spend with Hanhan and her younger sister.
The children have grown up in the blink of an eye, and she can't miss their growth.
One afternoon, a heavy express package arrived.
Zhou Xing's mother glanced at the mailing address, which was Hong Kong, and then ran into the house.
"Old woman, slow down! What's the rush?" Commander Zhou shouted angrily from behind.
"Quick, this is for you, Lei!" Zhou Xing's mother came upstairs breathlessly. Qin Xiaoyu was lying in bed reading a book, and she quickly took it when she saw it.
She tugged at the rope several times, her hands turning red from the tightness, but she couldn't loosen it. Zhou Xing's mother quickly grabbed a pair of scissors.
Quickly cutting through the mess, what came out of the kraft paper package was a white plastic bag.
There are many photos inside, all taken during the fashion show, from various angles and in detail, clearly taken by professionals.
Qin Xiaoyu was overjoyed. That two-faced guy, A Lei, finally couldn't bear to part with her.
A white envelope was mixed in with the photos. When Qin Xiaoyu held it in her hand, her heart sank. She had a premonition that something was wrong.
How could a lazy person like A Lei write a letter? He'd rather make a long-distance phone call.
But the handwriting on the envelope was clearly his.
Qin Xiaoyu tore open the envelope; inside was a thin piece of paper.
It read: This is the last time I'll say goodbye. There was no farewell.
I tried every possible way to squeeze into your life, but I could never find a place beside you. I've decided to withdraw, and let's move on. Best wishes.
"What did the letter say?" Zhou Xing's mother asked anxiously, trying to glean something from Qin Xiaoyu's face.
"Mom," Qin Xiaoyu called out, tears streaming down her face.
"Oh, what's wrong?" Zhou Xing's mother panicked and came over to wipe her tears.
"Mom, A Lei doesn't want me anymore." Qin Xiaoyu burst into tears.
Zhou Xing's mother held Qin Xiaoyu and sat down weakly on the edge of the bed.
