Chapter 51 Resolving Doubts

"My stomach hurts again," my cousin-in-law pouted.

"It must hurt, maybe it's because you're angry and your stomach hurts," Qin Xiaoyu smiled.

"Why don't you go and call her once? Give her a way out. This family is only missing one person, it's not good for her," my sister-in-law said tentatively, her heart softening.

“Sister-in-law, have you ever heard the saying, ‘Those who walk different paths cannot make plans together’? I’m not on the same path as her. Everyone has their own personality. It’s not a problem if someone has a bad personality, but if someone is inherently rotten to the core, I won’t tolerate that.” Qin Xiaoyu knew that she couldn’t befriend her aunt and that she would get her revenge sooner or later.

"I'll listen to you, whatever you say is right. Oh dear, why are we having dumplings again?" my cousin-in-law said with a smile.

"Listen to me, I won't cheat you. We're eating dumplings because we made money; last night's hard work wasn't for nothing." Qin Xiaoyu concealed the earring part and only talked about the bride, making her cousin-in-law click her tongue.

"This pot is ready. You all come inside and eat. I'll continue cooking." Grandma Hanhan walked in, her face gloomy.

"What's wrong? You were all excited to come see me during the day. What did you do to upset me?" Qin Xiaoyu realized something was wrong after her cousin-in-law reminded her. She had been busy inside and hadn't really noticed what she had done wrong.

"Xiaoyu, did your mother-in-law see anyone she shouldn't have at the shop today?" The main room was in a mess, with tables and chairs set up. The madam was still in her room and hadn't come over yet, so Hanhan was asked to call Qin Xiaoyu over for questioning.

"There's hardly anyone here? Oh, right, there's Wenwen's classmate." Qin Xiaoyu understood a little.

"Wenwen's classmate? Male or female?" The wife asked quite carefully.

"It's a man." Qin Xiaoyu heard Hanhan's grandmother calling from the kitchen, and turned to run out.

"Mom, have you seen Wang Lei, whom we met at the store today?" Qin Xiaoyu didn't go inside. She handed the dumplings to her cousin-in-law and stayed in the kitchen with Hanhan's grandmother.

Grandma Hanhan was lost in thought when she suddenly heard Qin Xiaoyu ask this question, and she was taken aback. She didn't expect Qin Xiaoyu to bring up this topic on her own initiative.

Who is Wang Lei?

"Wenwen's classmate? Hasn't she ever been to our house?"

"Oh, now that you mention it, I remember. No wonder you looked flustered; there is such a person." Grandma Hanhan's face brightened.

“Wenwen took good care of my business and called all the people she knew to come to me.”

"This Wang Lei, and another guy surnamed Zhou, they used to come to our house all the time." Grandma Hanhan had already recalled them, but then she thought something was off and asked, "Why did he call you Sister Xiaoyu?"

"Kids these days just follow trends and call each other whatever they want. Isn't he the same age as Wenwen, two years younger than me? It doesn't matter what we call him," Qin Xiaoyu said nonchalantly.

"Yes, they're younger than you. I think both of those kids come from families where they're leaders, right?"

“Yes, they’re all high-ranking officials,” Qin Xiaoyu said exaggeratedly. Grandma Hanhan completely relaxed. They were all children of officials, and younger than Xiaoyu. How could they possibly marry a woman older than herself with two children? She was overthinking it.

"Come inside and eat quickly, the dumplings will get cold," Grandma Hanhan said with concern.

"Mom, I know what you're thinking. Let's get this straight today. You're just worried about me remarrying, aren't you?"

“I know I can’t keep you here no matter what I do. You’re still young. If you find a suitable family, you’ll have to leave anyway. But this place has just started to feel like a home, and I can’t bear to leave you…” Grandma Hanhan raised her sleeve and kept wiping away her tears. Qin Xiaoyu’s heart also ached.

"Mom, I won't get married. I'll just live a good life with Hanhan and my little sister. Don't worry."

"With you saying that, I'm content." Grandma Hanhan sighed heavily and murmured, "If Wenzhi were still here, how wonderful that would be."

"What are these two saying? The dumplings are all rotten in the pot!" My cousin-in-law shouted as she came in. Only then did they realize that the dumplings had been cooked for too long and the skins had broken. It was a pity that all the meat flavor had disappeared.

Grandma Hanhan was relieved about Qin Xiaoyu, but then she had other thoughts. That evening, she called her out and asked, "Wenwen is never home. Is she dating someone? It can't be Wang Lei, can it?"

"Mom, Wenwen is independent and has her own opinions. Neither you nor I can control her affairs, so let's not worry about it." Qin Xiaoyu could only advise her like this. Now that things were already done, she just wanted Grandma Hanhan to behave herself and not cause any trouble.

After dinner, Qin Xiaoyu asked Master Wang to take Hanhan and her brother back to their room. They had been bothering their mother all day, and being of an older age, they were probably tired of it.

She took out the oranges she had bought that afternoon, divided them up, one for each adult and child, and gave four to her wife, which she then presented to her.

"You don't earn money easily, and you're always thinking about this and that," the wife complained as she lay on the kang (a heated brick bed) resting.

"No matter what, I earn money more easily than they earn a fixed salary. Eat up, and I'll buy you more if you like it." Qin Xiaoyu smiled slightly.

"Little Fish, I have a few words to say to you. What's wrong with your mother-in-law today?" the lady pressed. This old fox couldn't hide anything from her.

"Isn't it because I ran into Wenwen at my shop? It's a misunderstanding."

“Sometimes, it might not be a misunderstanding.” The wife sighed. Qin Xiaoyu wanted to explain, but then felt that what she said made sense. She lowered her head and blushed.

"I haven't asked you what you think. Wenzhi has been with you for more than half a year. At your age, you're beautiful and can make money. I'm afraid you can't keep it. If you want to remarry, just leave the child behind." The wife closed her eyes wearily after saying that.

"No! The children are my lifeblood, I won't abandon them. Madam, please don't worry about this, I won't remarry!" Qin Xiaoyu's tone was very serious. The madam suddenly opened her eyes, stared at her for a long time, and then sighed.

"Let's not talk about this anymore, go and rest." After saying that, the lady turned her back to her. She always used this method to get rid of guests. Qin Xiaoyu stood up helplessly.

When Hanhan saw Qin Xiaoyu enter the room, she hurriedly handed him his homework. She had left in a hurry last night and hadn't given him any homework, so he wrote out yesterday's content again. He was a thoughtful child.

"Hanhan is so smart, she should start school soon." Master Wang's words reminded Qin Xiaoyu. She just taught whatever came to mind and didn't know what the textbooks were like now.

Seeing that it was only a little past eight o'clock and all the lights were on, she picked up three oranges from the table, put on her jacket, and went out.

When she knocked on her sister-in-law's door, she saw Qin Xiaoyu. Her sister-in-law smiled so much that the wrinkles on her face twisted into pretzel shapes.

"Oh, sister-in-law, come in quickly."

"These are for Xiaohu." Qin Xiaoyu handed over the oranges. Her sister-in-law had been watching her distribute the oranges and was already insanely jealous. Now that they were being given to her, how could she not be happy?

"Come in and sit down. It's cold wearing this coat, don't catch a cold."

"I wanted to ask if Xiaohu still has any first-grade textbooks left, as I'd like Hanhan to use them."
