The driver glanced at her in the rearview mirror but didn't say anything.
Qin Xiaoyu saw a pair of deep-set eyes and an aquiline nose. He was quite handsome, it was a pity he hadn't gone down the right path.
Her saintly instincts kicked in, and she almost had the urge to preach, but thankfully she stopped herself in time. She's not the same person she was three years ago; she's matured a lot.
The car was driving fast, but the road was too long and the ride was bumpy, constantly tossing the four people in the back. The men on either side were okay, each holding onto a window handle, but Ye Qiu and Qin Xiaoyu were in a much worse situation, with nowhere to grab on, constantly being tossed around.
Qin Xiaoyu was annoyed to discover that the person next to her was secretly laughing, especially when she was thrown onto him.
Isn't kidnapping a very serious matter? Qin Xiaoyu was a little annoyed, and she reached out and grabbed the man's arm.
"What are you doing?" the man asked nervously.
"The vehicle has entered a dangerous area, so sit tight and hold on," Qin Xiaoyu said confidently. The man, probably encountering something like this for the first time, panicked a little and looked to the driver for help.
The driver ignored them and paid them no heed.
Finally, a large cluster of buildings appeared ahead. It was already dark, so we could only make out their outlines. We drove the car directly into a courtyard through the side gate, turned off the engine, and got out.
Qin Xiaoyu's legs felt weak, not from fear, but from the numbness caused by the long car ride.
She took a deep breath; there was a floral scent, unnamed, delicate and fragrant.
A night like this, taking a walk with A Lei, would be wonderful. What's she doing all this to herself? A sudden wave of despondency washed over her, and tears welled up; she was becoming vulnerable.
"Come in." The man whose arm she had just grabbed spoke to her in a much gentler tone.
Upon entering, there was a hall, and judging from the arrangement of the chairs, it seemed to be used for meetings. They were led to a side annex, where there were chairs and beds.
Upon seeing the bed, Ye Qiu's expression darkened further. Her eyes darted around, and she clung tightly to Qin Xiaoyu's arm.
"We weren't brought here to meet someone, where is the person?" Qin Xiaoyu didn't want to waste time. She wanted to meet Master K directly to negotiate. She had enough financial strength to fight back and make Gao Daxiong pay the price for this kidnapping.
She believed that no one could refuse the price she offered.
Someone came in and whispered a few words in the driver's ear. The driver nodded thoughtfully.
"Lock them in the house first. I heard this little wench has a lot of tricks up her sleeve. Don't let her escape." The driver pointed at Qin Xiaoyu.
"Do you want me to tie you up, Brother Tai?" a man asked the driver.
"You ask me everything, what am I supposed to do with you? Eat shit?" Tai said without turning his head.
"Bullhead, let's tie him up, it'll be safer," said another man in the room.
"Then tie him up." Niu Tou was the guy Qin Xiaoyu had just grabbed by the arm. He was big and burly, and looked like a brainless person with a big chest.
"Don't bother, I can't run. I don't have a car, and I'm wearing high heels, how am I supposed to run?" Qin Xiaoyu deliberately showed them her heels, which she wore to match her fashion sense and would change out of when she was driving.
The heels were a good eight inches long, thin and pointed. Walking in these shoes on country roads would leave holes with every step, making it impossible to walk.
"Duo Zai, should we tie him up or not?" Bull Head still had a hard time making a decision.
"Tie him up!" Duo Zai, who insisted on tying Ye Qiu up, was the one sitting next to Ye Qiu. He had taken advantage of Ye Qiu quite a bit in the car, and Qin Xiaoyu had seen it all. He was nowhere near as honest as Niu Tou.
When she saw him pull out a pair of handcuffs and walk towards Qin Xiaoyu, she understood that he wanted to take advantage of her again.
"Hey guys, K called me here to talk business. Let's not talk about how it'll go. He didn't say you should make the first move, did he? You should leave yourselves some room to maneuver. Some things aren't good if you go too far." Qin Xiaoyu's expression changed, and these few words stunned the three grown men.
"Don't be stubborn. It'll be easier for K to deal with you than a chick. You might just walk out tomorrow holding on," Duo Zai said coldly.
"From what I've heard, you're not a local either. You must be someone who came from out of town to make a living. In the underworld, anyone who can keep up with Boss K is no ordinary person. There's a guy named Qi Si in the Northeast, have you heard of him?" Qin Xiaoyu was clinging to a sliver of hope. From the Northeast to Guangdong, it was a long and arduous journey, and he figured he couldn't get any help from Brother Si.
"There is such a person as Bei Qi Si. He came to Guangdong a while ago and even met with Master K." Fatty knew quite a bit about him.
Qin Xiaoyu was surprised. She had been with Qi Si the whole time and had no idea that he had gone out to meet someone on his own.
She had always thought that Qi Si had almost completely cut off contact with the underworld, but it seems she knew far too little.
Qin Xiaoyu quickly analyzed the information Duo Zai had given her. Qi Si had met with Master K and managed to leave unscathed, meaning their negotiations hadn't broken down; they were either friends or simply not interfering with each other. Would revealing her relationship with Qi Si actually be beneficial?
"Why aren't you saying anything? Don't tell me you're Qi Si's mistress?" A wicked glint flashed in Duo Zai's eyes, which Qin Xiaoyu caught.
It seems Qi Si's relationship with Master K is just so-so. He's just here to develop his business and came to pay a visit first to avoid any misunderstandings. He can't take advantage of him now.
"He is my brother," Qin Xiaoyu finally finished speaking.
"Your brother? Why didn't he take you with him last time he came? I didn't hear him mention you at all." Duo Zai has really gathered a lot of information.
"My brother doesn't want my business to get involved with the underworld," Qin Xiaoyu said with a faint smile.
"If you don't want to get involved, then we don't have any connection! It's a waste of breath to talk to you. Come on." Duo Zai said impatiently.
"I'll do it." In the blink of an eye, Niu Tou reached out, lifted Qin Xiaoyu onto the chair next to him, pulled her arms back, and handcuffed them together.
Qin Xiaoyu discovered that a simple action she had made in the car had triggered Niu Tou's protective instincts. It was as if she now belonged to him, and if Duo Zai tried to touch Qin Xiaoyu, it would be an invasion of his territory.
Duo Zai, cursing and swearing, handcuffed Ye Qiu, still wanting to cause trouble. But someone outside called them to eat, and the three gluttons turned around and left.
"Is it Gao Daxiong?" Ye Qiu asked Qin Xiaoyu as soon as no one was around.
"It should be him. Sister Ye has dragged you into this," Qin Xiaoyu said apologetically.
“Sigh, it’s nothing. When I first started doing business, I was walking home at night after delivering goods when someone robbed me and took me to an abandoned warehouse by the roadside. I didn’t dare to say much, I just said that my eyesight was bad and I couldn’t see things clearly, and begged them to spare my life…” Ye Qiu said, tears streaming down his face.
Qin Xiaoyu suddenly understood what Ye Qiu meant by envy. It was far more complicated for a woman to make her way in the world than she had imagined. People like Ye Qiu, Sister Su, Man Aihong, and even Qian Beibei, whom she looked down upon, all had their share of hardships and tears.
She had always thought of herself as strong and brave, but in reality, she had been well protected. This time, the real test was about to begin. A sense of fear slowly rose within Qin Xiaoyu; now she was afraid.
She was afraid that if something happened to her, what would happen to A Lei, Han Han and her younger sister, and Zhou Xing's mother? What kind of trouble would Qi Si cause?
