Chapter 66 Arresting Laborers

"No, the children are upstairs. I'll go get them." Qin Xiaoyu remembered that the two children had just been frightened during the day, and if she left them in an unfamiliar place at night, they would be psychologically traumatized.

"Then go to the entrance, I'll bring them down." After saying that, Master Wang ran upstairs.

Qin Xiaoyu waited for a while at the corner outside the building. She saw Master Wang coming over with two children, one in each hand. His face was full of worry. It turned out that there was a short man behind him. They had been discovered. Qin Xiaoyu could only grit her teeth and step forward.

"Principal Qin can even play hide-and-seek now, that's incredible!" The short man chuckled.

"I have a sick family member, so I can't spend as much time with you. I'll invite Fourth Brother to dinner later when things are over," Qin Xiaoyu could only say, going against her conscience.

"Is the matter over? I'm afraid Principal Qin will be even busier now. Fourth Brother will be waiting for you at Huibinlou tonight. Just don't forget, Principal Qin." After saying that, the short man threw the half-smoked cigarette on the ground, stomped on it, and strode away.

"What does he mean? Master, be careful, I sense something is implied in his words." Qin Xiaoyu hugged her little sister in her arms, feeling that she was a bit hot. She touched her forehead with her mouth and saw that she had a fever. Not daring to say anything more, she immediately took the child home.

The house was kept open with smoke blowing out, and it was as cold as a snow cave inside. It took another half a day to start a fire and warm the house up.

She went into the room, wrapped the two children in blankets, and placed them on the kang (a heated brick bed), telling them not to move. After the fire was lit, Hanhan sat up straight, while her younger sister had already fallen asleep, lying on her side.

Qin Xiaoyu picked up her little sister and tried to take off her coat, but her hand bounced back as soon as she touched her body. Oh no, how high is her fever?

"Quick, come with Mom, little sister needs to go to the hospital."

She scrambled to carry her little sister to the military hospital. There were no taxis available, so she had to find a nearby clinic. Luckily, it wasn't Zhou Xing's shift. After examining her, the doctor prescribed IV medication and asked her to get an allergy test.

The little sister was burning up with fever and looked like a lump of mud. Qin Xiaoyu was already short, and carrying the little sister who was dressed in thick clothes made it difficult for her to walk. After going up and down the stairs several times, her clothes were soaked with sweat.

After the allergy test was completed and the IV drip was hung up, the nurse told her to observe the patient closely before going to attend to other patients.

"Son, are you hungry?" Qin Xiaoyu's stomach rumbled, and she realized she hadn't eaten dinner yet. It was getting dark, and her younger sister was worried she'd be on an IV drip until midnight. But there was no takeout available, and the hospital cafeteria was closed. Buying food would mean leaving the child behind and walking a long way. She was truly at her wit's end. Hanhan noticed her predicament, shook her head, rested her head on Qin Xiaoyu's arm, and remained silent.

The mother and her two children sat there for who knows how long. Patients in the observation room left one after another, and new people came in, making it a chaotic scene. It's flu season now, and the younger sister caught it from the cold and the fright.

"Auntie!" A girl peeked out from the doorway for a while, and when she saw Qin Xiaoyu, she called out. When she ran over, tears were almost falling. It was Tian Tian.

"How did you find this person?" Qin Xiaoyu was surprised to have a helper and was quite happy.

"Something happened at the school! Qi Si's men locked the school gate from the inside and won't let anyone out. Da Zhuang tried to jump out of the window but cut himself on the glass and bled a lot. They just won't let him out. I climbed out through the back window and ran to your house to find you. My great-grandfather said you brought them to the hospital, so I came here. You should go back and think of something."

Qin Xiaoyu then noticed that Tian Tian was also quite disheveled, with her pants torn and a scratch on her face.

"Oh dear, child, you need to go to the surgeon right away to make sure there's no scarring. I'll be right back, you go quickly."

Tian Tian didn't know she was injured until Qin Xiaoyu told her. She was terrified and ran to the surgery department.

Qin Xiaoyu stood up, carrying her younger sister, only to realize then that her sister was still on an IV drip, which would take at least two hours to finish. Even if Tian Tian came back soon and entrusted the child to her, she wouldn't feel comfortable leaving her alone; the child was still just a baby. The younger sister was on a penicillin drip, and an allergic reaction could be disastrous; it needed someone experienced to supervise her.

But she couldn't stay put. Tian Tianyu's expression was ominous. Had the bleeding student's artery been damaged? Had the bleeding stopped? This could be a matter of life and death. She had to get back to school immediately.

They can't leave, and they can't stay.

She looked up in anguish, wondering when all the suffering God had inflicted upon her would end.

She didn't want to wait any longer. Holding her younger sister, she had Hanhan push the IV stand and check on Tian Tian's injury first.

The nurses were changing shifts, and no one noticed, so the mother and her two children slipped out. The sign said the surgery department was upstairs, and it wouldn't be difficult for Hanhan to push the IV stand—it had a pulley at the bottom. But getting upstairs was a different story. Qin Xiaoyu looked at her steaming little sister in her arms, feeling like crying.

Suddenly, she felt her clothes being tugged twice. Looking down at Hanhan, she received a subtle glance. Following the look, she saw Zhou Xing in a white coat.

"Zhou Xing!"

Qin Xiaoyu didn't know what she was feeling at the time, but she felt like she had met a savior. When she was at her wit's end, she found such a strong lifeline, which was simply a divine arrangement. Without saying a word, she went over, put her little sister in Zhou Xing's arms, and said to Hanhan, "Take good care of your sister. Tell Uncle what the doctor just said. I have urgent business and must leave immediately."

The last two sentences were addressed to Zhou Xing. Zhou Xing had already noticed them but hadn't intended to greet them. Unexpectedly, Qin Xiaoyu came over and placed the child in his arms, leaving him momentarily bewildered.

By the time he realized something was wrong, Qin Xiaoyu was already almost at the gate. He quickly called out, "Hey! Where are you going?"

"Negotiations with the underworld!" Qin Xiaoyu answered without turning her head.

"What did she say? Your mother is really something, does she really think she's a god? She's invincible, isn't she?" Zhou Xing could only complain to Hanhan as Qin Xiaoyu's figure turned and disappeared into the night.

"If Mom isn't strong, how can she protect us?" Hanhan asked seriously, like a little adult, leaving Zhou Xing speechless.

"Dr. Zhou, are you on the night shift tonight? What's wrong?" A nurse passing by noticed Zhou Xing's disheveled appearance and quickly asked.

"My relative's child, please take him to my office quickly." Zhou Xing was also helpless.

He was on duty at the inpatient department that night. There were two beds in the office. He put his younger sister on the bed and checked the IV drip. The drip was normal, just a little slow, so he adjusted the drip rate.

"My sister has had an allergy test, but the doctor said we still need to observe her carefully, Uncle, please be careful." Hanhan was a little unhappy when she saw him fiddling with the IV tube, so she gave him a serious explanation.

"Okay, I'll be serious." Zhou Xing was almost amused by his words.
