"We're almost there. Remember, don't cry," the uncle added. The main hall was just ahead, bustling with people. Commander Zhou was seeing off guests.
"Big Brother." Qin Xiaoyu ran over and took his arm affectionately. She had been away for quite some time and had truly missed him.
"You're here, good, good, come in quickly." Commander Zhou pulled her through the door.
When Du Chengjun saw Qin Xiaoyu and the others come in, he actually stood up from his seat and took two steps forward to greet them.
This was a great honor, and some people, unaware of who the distinguished guest was, also stood up.
“Little Fish, the old lady keeps talking about you, saying that the trip with you was the happiest time of her life. You have fulfilled your filial duty on behalf of us children, and we should thank you properly.”
"Please don't be shy, we're all family," Qin Xiaoyu said politely.
"You're talking to family. If anything happens in the future, just say so, don't bear it all by yourself. Didn't the newspapers say that you have several powerful families supporting you? Although our Du family is small, we can still do our part."
Those present included not only relatives, but also officials and people from all walks of life. They could tell from the implication that Qin Xiaoyu's relationship with the Du family was unusual.
With the reputation of Riyue Apparel, people recognized the name and became even more curious about Qin Xiaoyu.
The ritual was being performed later. Qin Xiaoyu sat for a short while in front before going to the back to burn incense.
A Lei knelt with her on the putuan and listened to the sutras for a while. Qin Xiaoyu was afraid that he would get tired, so she whispered, "Go and rest. I'll go in a little while."
"I'll go with you." A Lei refused, so Qin Xiaoyu had no choice but to let him have his way.
After finishing the funeral arrangements for Old Madam Du, Qin Xiaoyu prepared to take Commander Zhou to Guangzhou.
Du Chengjun asked his uncle to deliver a message to Qin Xiaoyu, asking her to come over.
This is a private matter, and it's not convenient for A Lei to come along. Qin Xiaoyu guessed that Old Madam Du had left some message; she always doted on her, so she probably wanted to leave something behind.
She wasn't wrong, but the longing was too great; she couldn't forget it even if she wanted to.
Qin Xiaoyu looked at the thing in front of her, a little confused.
That stack of property certificates and documents belonged to Old Mrs. Du. Half of them went to her younger brother-in-law, and the other half to Qin Xiaoyu. None of the other grandchildren or siblings received a share.
Qin Xiaoyu understood that this wasn't because of any special affection for her, but mainly because of Zhou Xing's mother's sake.
Zhou Xing's mother didn't take anything with her from the Du family, which Old Mrs. Du always felt bad about.
Furthermore, from the Du family's perspective, they still consider Qin Xiaoyu as Zhou Xing's widow, so they only give her to her and not to Zhou Yue.
The other jewelry boxes remained unopened, and their contents were unknown. None of Old Madam Du's belongings were ordinary items.
"This is for Du Min. The old lady said it was her favorite thing when she was a child, so let her take it. These sets are for you. They're not worth much, and they're all things that the old lady used to wear. If you don't mind, you can take them."
Du Chengjun's words left Qin Xiaoyu with no choice but to thank him and leave, with a servant following her as she carried the things back to her room.
Qin Xiaoyu opened the jewelry box. Grandma Du had a particular fondness for jade; all her pieces were inlaid with jade. Each one was a top-quality item, something extremely rare and highly sought after.
It was Zhou's last night at the Du family's house. He was wide awake and chatted with A Lei for a while before getting up and walking out, seemingly not wanting to go back to his room.
The old house had moss on the ground, and Qin Xiaoyu, feeling uneasy, chased after them.
"Sir, let me show you around."
"Let's go. I just want to see the courtyard where your mother used to live." Commander Zhou smiled slightly.
"Big brother, I heard you two had a big fight back then, tell me about it." Qin Xiaoyu was extremely curious. The things Zhou Xing's mother said and the bits and pieces of information from the Du family all pointed to the fact that Commander Zhou had caused a huge commotion back then, which led to Zhou Xing's mother leaving the Du family.
"Let your mother tell you slowly." Commander Zhou blushed.
He only entered the house once back then, and somehow, through some kind of divine memory, he actually found Zhou Xing's mother's old courtyard.
Inside, some kind of flower was blooming, its fragrance almost intoxicating. A two-story building stood forlornly hidden in the shadows of the trees, without a single light.
Commander Zhou stood under the tree for a while, seemingly reminiscing about the past, before turning back.
After finishing up their business back home in the north, they were rushing back, their hearts filled with longing. Thinking of Xiao Jiajia, Qin Xiaoyu felt anxious and wished she could fly to Guangzhou immediately.
Little Jiajia has become much more capable since they left home. Zhou Xing's mother is really good at taking care of children; the child is both healthy and clean. I really don't know how this pampered young lady, who never lifts a finger, became such a qualified nanny.
Little Jiajia has just sprouted a tiny tooth; she's incredibly cute.
He's become the cutest baby in the family, and even the three identical boys love to watch over him.
Little Jiajia welcomes everyone; no matter who looks at him, he will grin and give them a sweet smile.
Ah Lei held his son tightly, as if trying to make up for the two weeks they had lost. This made Qin Xiaoyu secretly vow to try her best not to let the father and son be separated.
The arrangements for Hanhan to study in the United States are almost complete.
As Xiao Jin and Miranda's relationship deepened, Miranda no longer had any excuses to refuse Han Han.
On Miranda's birthday, a fax arrived with a photo. Xiao Jin, wearing oven mitts, was holding a cake she had baked herself, laughing carefree.
Miranda, wearing a paper hat and making faces, unusually wasn't wearing sunglasses. Her eyes crinkled with laughter, making her look much kinder. She was completely different from the person they knew.
The night before Hanhan boarded the plane, Commander Zhou took him out for a walk.
Qin Xiaoyu stood at the window, looking at the two figures, one tall and one short, and suddenly felt a little lost.
These are all people who will disappear from her life; Commander Zhou will leave one day. Hanhan knows when she will return once she takes flight.
She turned around and saw A Lei carrying Jiajia towards her. Her heart warmed, and she rushed over to embrace the two people she loved most.
"What's wrong?" Are noticed the sadness in her eyes.
"I feel a little uncomfortable. The thought of Hanhan going so far away makes me sad."
"Mom, I'm so sad too." My little sister suddenly appeared out of nowhere, her eyes red.
Qin Xiaoyu opened her arms to welcome her and placed her between her and A Lei. The four of them looked at each other.
"Dad, Mom, I will never leave you!" The little sister stretched out her arms and hugged one of them in each arm.
"You'd better keep your word. Write a guarantee to Daddy tomorrow, promising not to marry far away." A Lei kissed his little sister's forehead and earnestly extended his little finger to make a pinky promise with her.
Qin Xiaoyu recalled the little tricks many parents played in the 21st century, tricking their daughters into writing guarantees that they wouldn't marry far away. It was just for fun at the time, but later, they'd probably be heartbroken.
"Hehehe." Little Jiajia suddenly grinned, and her younger sister, who had just been frowning, couldn't help but smile through her tears.
