Chapter 94 Vinegar is Sour

"Why not? Xiaoyu lives in an apartment now, doesn't she?" Her cousin-in-law quickly chimed in, protecting Qin Xiaoyu.

"Don't discourage a child with high aspirations. Besides, what has your second daughter-in-law failed to do?" Grandpa Hanhan dared not scold his first wife, but he dared to scold Grandma Hanhan.

"Yes, yes, I'm just happy. Maybe one day I'll get my daughter-in-law's help and live in a high-rise building." Grandma Hanhan quickly backed herself up.

"Then I'll live as long as I can, until I can live in an apartment building." The wife raised her glass, and the family clinked their glasses together, bursting into laughter.

Just as Qin Xiaoyu was about to put her cup away, the old woman's cup suddenly clattered against her, startling her. She looked up and saw the old woman's gloomy gaze, and a chill ran down her spine.

It was already dark, and Qin Xiaoyu planned to take the two children home.

"Stay here, leave tomorrow morning. I'm worried about leaving in the dark," Grandma Hanhan said, trying to stop her.

"The house has been empty for too long, it's not good for the children to live here," Qin Xiaoyu hurriedly explained. This reason was a bit fussy to the elders, who had lived in the open in the past and were already quite content with having a roof, a kang (heated brick bed), and a quilt.

"You can stay here, your room isn't empty." Qin Xiaoyu was a little surprised by what the lady said.

She went straight to the main room as soon as she got back, and didn't even go back to her own room.

"Go and see, your mother-in-law cleans every day, and sometimes she even stays overnight, afraid of leaving the house empty." The lady waved her hand.

Qin Xiaoyu walked into her long-missed home, her eyes a little wet.

The house was spotless, the windows were sparkling clean, and the glass was so polished it looked like it had disappeared. The stove was gleaming, and the pots and pans were all washed and spotless. The bedding on the bed looked like it had been washed and remade.

"Mom." Qin Xiaoyu turned around and looked at Grandma Hanhan who had followed her in.

"You're busy outside all day, and I can't help you much. I've taken good care of the house for you. You can come back and stay whenever you want," Grandma Hanhan said shyly.

“Yes, Mom, this is my home, I have to come back.” Qin Xiaoyu reached out and took Hanhan’s grandmother’s hand.

"Little Fish, I heard that Qi Si has taken you as his sister?"

"That's true, Fourth Brother is a really good person."

"You'd better be careful. He's a gangster, and you're a..." Grandma Hanhan abruptly stopped talking, almost blurting out the words "young widow."

These rumors, which originated from the neighbors, were naturally unpleasant to hear. Some even said that Qin Xiaoyu had slept with Qi Si to open the beauty school.

Grandma Hanhan had heard it so many times that she was skeptical, but Grandpa Hanhan gave her a good scolding: "You don't protect your own child, but you believe other people's gossip!"

She finally calmed down, but then worried that the house would become uninhabitable if left empty for too long, and Qin Xiaoyu would never be able to come back. She would come over every day to clean and polish it, making the house look newer and brighter than when Qin Xiaoyu lived there.

"Mom, don't worry, I won't look for anyone else. I'll just take good care of them." Qin Xiaoyu reassured Grandma Hanhan once again, and then happily went back to the main room.

Tang Long didn't get home from school until 10:30. Qin Xiaoyu hadn't slept well. She hadn't seen Tang Long for several days and was worried about him.

She took Tang Long to her sister-in-law's kitchen, explained several subjects to her, and didn't release him until after 1 a.m.

"These are the key points, so be sure to memorize them well."

"Don't worry, Auntie, I will definitely make up for my father's regret." Tang Long was a thoughtful child. Qin Xiaoyu felt that her efforts had not been in vain.

She's been sleeping well lately, falling asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow. But today, I don't know if it's because of the seating arrangement or because she was too excited talking about the topic, but she just couldn't fall asleep.

The curtains were narrow and small, only blocking half of the window, while the other half let in the bright moonlight.

She stared wide-eyed, lost in thought.

Suddenly a dark shadow flashed past the window, followed by a loud thud as something hit the window.

Qin Xiaoyu suddenly sat up. There seemed to be someone outside the window.

Her heart pounded. She turned to look at the two familiar children, her courage growing, and asked sharply, "Who is it?"

"If you won't let me live a good life, then you won't live a good life either. Let's see how long you can be so smug!" A cold voice came in, and Qin Xiaoyu felt a chill run down her spine.

It's an old lady.

She sat motionless on the kang (a heated brick bed), unsure how to answer. She couldn't understand—could such deep hatred exist among ordinary people?

She didn't know how much time had passed when the figure outside the window disappeared. She shrank under the covers, feeling uneasy, and couldn't fall asleep.

The next morning, she returned to school with dark circles under her eyes.

"If you're not used to living here, then don't stay. Look at you." Master Wang felt sorry for her and brought her a wet towel to apply heat. This was a method she had taught her, and now she had learned it.

"It's nothing, I just had a nightmare last night." Qin Xiaoyu didn't tell the truth. She didn't want to talk about it anymore; as long as she stayed away, the old lady couldn't do anything to her.

A car drove into the yard. Qin Xiaoyu looked around and saw it was a Hongqi. Zhou Xing had arrived.

Zhou Xing didn't come over immediately; he directed two soldiers to move things. By the time they came over carrying more than a dozen large boxes, Hanhan and her younger sister had already run over.

I don't know why Hanhan likes Zhouxing.

"Uncle Zhou!"

"Good boy." Zhou Xing followed Zheng's example and carried one in each arm. Qin Xiaoyu saw this and her heart skipped a beat, remembering what Commander Wang had said.

"What is this?" Qin Xiaoyu asked, seeing that Zhou Xing was ignoring her and had someone deliver the box to her office.

"See for yourself." Zhou Xing's words were still cold, as if even giving Qin Xiaoyu a single word would be beneath him.

Qin Xiaoyu pursed her lips, too lazy to pay attention to him, walked to the box, and opened the lid.
