Chapter Eleven
You didn't listen to a single word I said.
Ji Wanmei pursed her lips and said with a stern face, "It seems I need to take back what I said."
Lei Tingjun's smile froze as he hurriedly explained, "I didn't go into the fight! They were the ones who started it!"
Lei Tingjun was most afraid of Ji Wanmei saying, "I take back what I said."
He would really go crazy!
"After we parted ways yesterday afternoon, I went back to my dorm to get some money. Then I came to the county bookstore and bought some college entrance exam review materials. You can ask the bookstore owner if you don't believe me. I came around 6 p.m. yesterday, he definitely remembers me!"
"Then that night...you know what happened that night, I didn't have time to fight! My brothers can vouch for me!"
After Lei Tingjun finished speaking, he turned around and glared angrily at the dumbfounded brothers behind him.
The brothers realized what was happening and hurriedly nodded, saying in unison, "Yes, yes, our boss didn't go into the fight yesterday! We were the ones who did it!"
It was at this moment that Zhou Peng, Sun Xiaojun, and the others learned what Boss Lei had been up to the previous afternoon and evening.
Goodness gracious! So Boss Lei went to buy college entrance exam review materials?!
Good heavens! I've always hated pedantic, pretentious intellectuals, and I'd rather take action than talk big. But now, Lei Laoda has actually bought college entrance exam review materials. Is he planning to take the exam?!
After the brothers realized what had happened, they all stared at their leader with incredibly strange looks.
Then, with an even stranger look, he stared at Ji Wanmei, the "Oriental Pearl," across from him.
Everyone was wondering to themselves, what exactly is the relationship between their boss Lei and this Oriental Pearl?
Ji Wanmei glanced at the few carefree young men behind Lei Tingjun, but ignored them.
He focused his gaze solely on Lei Tingjun: "Then let me ask you, aren't they your brothers? Since they call you 'boss,' shouldn't you be disciplining them? Instead, they went to the workers' compound and beat people up, leaving them bleeding and hospitalized. This has blown up so badly, and you all can't escape responsibility!"
Lei Tingjun frowned, took a deep drag on his cigarette, and glanced at Zhou Peng and the others, his tone and eyes unusually cold: "You beat someone into the hospital?"
When speaking to his brothers, Lei Tingjun exuded a sharp and imposing aura, his eyes were cold and his whole body was full of pressure, which was completely different from his docile and dull appearance in front of Ji Wanmei, and even a little clumsy.
When Lei Tingjun shouted at them like that, the group of underlings quickly lowered their heads and fell silent.
Like a mouse seeing a cat, they dared not be the slightest bit presumptuous!
Only Zhou Peng and Sun Xiaojun, who were close to Lei Tingjun and lived in the same dormitory, could talk to him.
Zhou Pengdao scratched the back of his head and leaned forward to whisper, "Boss, you know about this, right? The day before yesterday, those factory kids bullied one of our brothers. They punched him in the head and gave him a huge bruise. His nose was bleeding too. Besides, they deliberately picked a fight. We were just going to teach them a lesson, an eye for an eye."
"Otherwise, those factory kids will think we're cowards who are easy to bully."
"Besides, we were one of our own people, so we knew our limits. That guy wasn't seriously injured at all. He just wanted to make a big scene and extort money from us, so he deliberately went to the hospital!"
Lei Tingjun naturally knew about this. Yesterday afternoon, at the factory gate, his group of people were just squatting outside the steps of the gate smoking when they saw Ji Wanmei coming into the factory, probably to see her father.
Not long after she entered the factory, one of her brothers ran over to report that someone had been beaten up behind the factory.
At that time, Lei Tingjun led his men to the alley at the entrance of the alley. After carefully listening to the report from his subordinates, he did indeed intend to lead his men there to teach the other party a lesson.
He never expected that Ji Wanmei, who had always ignored factory slackers like him, would suddenly come over and say to him, "If you can get into university, I'll date you."
It was as if a long-awaited pie had suddenly fallen on their heads, leaving Lei Tingjun completely stunned.
He was in a daze at the time, feeling as if his dream had come true and the girl he had a crush on had finally looked at him properly.
They also expressed their willingness to give him a chance.
Lei Tingjun had no time to worry about disciplining the factory workers' children; he simply left it to Zhou Peng and his team to handle.
He rushed back to his dormitory, packed all his belongings, and went to the bookstore in the center of the county to buy review materials.
When he returned to the dormitory that evening, he saw that all his brothers had come back, and Lei Tingjun didn't ask how it was handled.
Anyway, with Zhou Peng around, he's always been a man of principle and, compared to the other brothers, he's more intelligent, so he shouldn't make things too big.
It's just a lesson, a warning. It's not the first time they've done this; they're experienced.
So Lei Tingjun didn't ask, and he wasn't in the mood to deal with those trivial matters at the time.
After buying the review materials, he sat at the desk by the window, smoking as he studied.
There are quite a few subjects, such as physics and geometry, that he didn't study in high school, so it was quite a challenge for him to learn them on his own.
Lei Tingjun dropped out of school not because his grades were bad, but because his family couldn't afford to send him to school.
His uncle and aunt's family were unwilling to give him money for nothing, as their own family was not well-off and they had two children to support.
