Chapter Twelve
After Lei Tingjun finished speaking, he turned to leave, leading his gang of brothers around menacingly.
There were seven or eight bachelors, all tall and burly, with very strong muscles in their shoulders from years of hard work, making them look intimidating.
Judging from their demeanor, you'd think they were going to settle scores with someone, not to resolve anything.
Ji Wanmei frowned when she saw his imposing manner and quickly called out to him, "Lei Tingjun, we haven't even finished talking, where are you going?"
Lei Tingjun turned around: "Wasn't that guy beaten up by my brother and sent to the hospital? I'm going to the hospital to find him right now."
"You found him, and then what?" Ji Wanmei asked again.
Lei Tingjun paused for a moment: "Then, then I made him explain clearly! Who was more seriously injured, him or my brother? If he insists on being hospitalized and making a big fuss, then I'll have my brother hospitalized too, and make him pay for the medical expenses as well."
Ji Wanmei was really annoyed by his stubbornness, his blockhead.
"Is this your way of solving things?"
Ji Wanmei said slowly, "If people insist on getting to the bottom of this, then you are the ones who ganged up on each other, and the fault lies with you."
"Not only will you have to pay for their medical expenses, but you might also be fired for violating the factory's safety regulations. Do you even realize how serious this is?!"
Everyone was stunned when they heard what Ji Wanmei said.
What is that?
Will I be fired from the factory?
It can't be that serious!
Lei Tingjun's expression also darkened slightly: "I only punched him twice, it's not that serious."
Besides, they had clashed with the factory workers' children before, at most they would be called over by the factory leaders for a few words of criticism and education, and in the end they would just smooth things over.
“That depends on who you hit and whether they’re willing to settle with you privately,” Ji Wanmei said. “If you go there with a bunch of people like this, they’ll definitely be unwilling to settle if they see how aggressive you are. If they want revenge, they’ll at least make the person who started the fight lose their job.”
Ji Wanmei asked, "Is this the outcome you wanted to see?"
When it came to fighting, Sun Xiaojun, the skinny guy who had punched the factory worker's son hard that day, became embarrassed and dared not say a word.
There were many people surrounding the factory's children at the time. Because Sun Xiaojun had a personal grudge against that kid, he threw dirty punches from behind and beat the bastard a few times.
What personal grudge? It's because Sun Xiaojun was a notorious playboy among the factory's slackers. He was good at sweet-talking, had a lot of flattery and womanizing skills, and often managed to trick girls into going on dates with him at nightclubs and workers' centers.
Although most of them realized he was just a pretentious charlatan after meeting him two or three times and didn't want to continue their relationship with him, at least he had been with some girls.
It's better than the single men that other people in their group see.
This is something that Sun Xiaojun, who is thin, has always been proud of and boasts about.
Every time he opens his mouth, he says things like, "I picked up a hot chick at the Workers' Center yesterday!" which often earns him eye rolls and disdain from his buddies.
The conflict with that factory kid stemmed from the fact that last time they went dancing at the workers' center, Sun Xiaojun and that kid both tried to pick up the same girl, but the girl Sun Xiaojun liked was snatched away by that factory kid.
Such a trivial matter gave Sun Xiaojun the opportunity to secretly vent his anger.
Looking back now, perhaps those two punches that drew blood from the factory worker were actually unintentional blows from Sun Xiaojun.
Thinking of this, Sun Xiaojun quickly said to Boss Lei, "Boss, Miss Ji is right. We still need to handle this matter properly and not let him lose our jobs."
Sun Xiaojun said this because he was afraid that when the kid woke up, he would remember that he had secretly punched him a few times, and if the kid pointed the finger at him, he would lose his job, which would be a huge loss.
Zhou Peng, who was standing to the side, also felt that this matter should not be made any bigger. After all, those factory workers had their families backing them up, unlike them who had no connections in the factory.
If things escalate to a major point, they will definitely be the ones who suffer.
Zhou Peng said, "Boss, I also think Miss Ji makes a good point."
Lei Tingjun glanced at the two of them. Ji Wanmei was his future partner, but he was also Lei Tingjun's future 'wife'. Did he even know that what his 'wife' said made sense? Should he listen to her?
He didn't want them to chime in, as it made him seem like he was so clueless.
"Okay." Lei Tingjun readily agreed to Ji Wanmei's words. "I'll listen to you. So, tell me, what should I do now?"
Seeing that he was remorseful and willing to listen to her advice, Ji Wanmei's expression softened. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Don't go to the hospital. Go back to the factory now and talk to the leaders to clarify things. Don't let the other party take the initiative."
"Then have the person who started the fight go over and apologize to the other party. That way, you won't be at a disadvantage in terms of morality or etiquette."
"As for medical expenses, it's very convenient. You can have them go through the official procedures. They will only reimburse you once they see the stamped receipt from the hospital. If it's just a little bit of medicine, it shouldn't cost much. Consider it a way to avoid further trouble."
"If that still doesn't work, then we'll use the method you just mentioned," Ji Wanmei gestured.
Lei Tingjun just said that if the other party tries to extort money, he will have his brothers stay in the hospital and cause trouble, and they will each pay the other's medical expenses to see who can afford it.
However, this is actually a last resort and should not be used unless absolutely necessary.
After listening to Ji Wanmei's analysis, Lei Tingjun felt even more affection and fondness for her.
At the same time, a sense of pride welled up in my heart, thinking, "How come my judgment is so good?"
Ji Wanmei spoke gently, clearly, and calmly, every word she uttered genuinely showing her concern for him and his brothers.
Moreover, he did not show any disdain for those high-ranking factory children or for looking down on them, the lower-level employees.
“Alright, I’ll do as you say.” After Lei Tingjun finished speaking, he added, “What are you doing in the county? Are you going to buy something? What are you going to buy? I’ll go with you to buy it.”
Lei Tingjun didn't notice Luo Chunyan, who had come with Ji Wanmei earlier, because Luo Chunyan had been standing on the other side of the road, craning her neck to look around, and didn't dare to come over.
Lei Tingjun knew that girls spend money when they go shopping.
However, he showed up with very little money left; the only twenty yuan he had had was almost all spent on materials yesterday.
Thinking of this, Lei Tingjun walked to Zhou Peng's side and said in a low voice quickly, "Give me whatever money you have on you."
Zhou Peng silently took out ten yuan from his pocket and quietly handed it to him: "Well, that's all I have."
Lei Tingjun glanced down at the ten-yuan bill in his hand.
I frowned. Only ten yuan?
What gift could he possibly buy for Ji Wanmei with that?!
