Chapter 127
"Where are you going?" Ji Wanmei asked him.
“Pingdong City.” Lei Tingjun stood by the roadside, watching the sun rise at eight o’clock in the morning.
Ji Wanmei lowered her head. Sure enough, his life trajectory was still following the same path as in his previous life.
"Ji Wanmei," Lei Tingjun called her name softly, asking, "Are you willing to give me another chance?"
“I’ve been reviewing the study materials you gave me every day. I’m taking them with me with me when I leave Pingquan County. You hope I can get into university, and I will definitely work hard to do so.”
Lei Tingjun looked at Ji Wanmei and said seriously, word by word, "If I stay in Pingquan County and stay in Dongfang Factory, I will never amount to anything in my life. Your father will never approve of me just because I am an honest man."
"So I have to leave this place, go out and make a name for myself."
“But I need time.” Lei Tingjun took a step closer to her, slightly raising his hand as if to touch her.
But when the raised hand reached near the sides of her arm, it silently lowered again.
"Are you willing to give me another chance? I will definitely prove it to you."
Lei Tingjun waited anxiously for Ji Wanmei's reply.
Her single reply could decide whether he went to heaven or hell.
Ji Wanmei looked up at him.
They stood very close, and Ji Wanmei could see clearly that, after only a few days apart, stubble had sprouted on his chin, turning it a dark bluish-black.
This gave him a more sharp and rugged look.
He stared at her intently with his deep, dark eyes, not blinking for a moment.
In the depths of those dark eyes, Ji Wanmei sensed a hint of melancholy and sadness.
It's unclear what he was feeling, how long he waited outside her shop, and how long he waited for her.
Ji Wanmei suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for this man.
She shouldn't be so petty. She was angry with him just because he chose to put his brother first this time, according to his own principles of conduct.
Ji Wanmei silently lowered her head and took out the pure silver Zippo lighter from the small leather bag she carried with her.
She handed the lighter to Lei Tingjun and said, "Smoke less. I'm giving you this not so you can smoke all the time."
Lei Tingjun's gloomy eyes suddenly lit up with joy. His gaze fell on the lighter lying in her fair palm, and he asked uncertainly, "Is this... a gift for me?"
"Don't want it?" Ji Wanmei glared at him. "If you don't want it, then I'll take it back."
"I want it! I want it!" Lei Tingjun quickly took it.
He carefully examined the lighter a few times, then looked up again at Ji Wanmei's face.
The gaze, which had been dim just moments before, suddenly became scorching hot, even more intense than the blazing sun of July.
Full of overflowing emotions and sincerity, though silent, it speaks volumes.
Ji Wanmei blushed slightly, avoiding his direct gaze.
Are you leaving today?
Lei Tingjun responded softly, "Yes. The tickets have been bought."
"Then be careful out there, and don't be too impulsive," Ji Wanmei said.
"Yes, I know." Lei Tingjun felt a warm current rolling in his chest.
I had prepared so much to say to her and explain things to her.
But when he actually saw her and heard her gentle and caring words of advice, Lei Tingjun felt that there was no need to say anything more.
She understood that Lei Tingjun could sense that she wasn't angry with him anymore.
"Where did you go to university? I'll come find you once I'm settled in," Lei Tingjun asked the most important question.
Ji Wanmei was admitted to a key university in the provincial capital. The university was not located in Pingdong City, but in Huadong City, the provincial capital.
“It’s in the provincial capital, Huadong Hancheng District, near East China University. You can find out by asking around when you get there,” Ji Wanmei said.
Above Pingquan County lies Pingdong City.
The provincial capital, Huadong, is their largest and most prosperous city, with a population comparable to that of Guangzhou.
However, East China is not close to the coast, so heavy industry developed relatively slowly. The provincial capitals mainly have light industrial factories. Therefore, among the top ten key provincial capitals in the country, the economic share is not very large, and it is in the middle to lower position.
However, the provincial capital of East China placed more emphasis on civilization, agriculture, medicine, and education.
There are several nationally renowned universities in East China.
Among them are an agricultural university, a medical university, and a normal university.
Of course, Ji Wanmei was admitted to the most prestigious university, East China University.
This is why, in 1988, East China was still ranked among the top-tier provincial capital cities in the country.
"Okay, I understand." Lei Tingjun silently made a mental note of it. Ji Wanmei was applying to East China University, and he would apply to that university in the future as well.
When it was finally time to part ways, Lei Tingjun suddenly felt reluctant to leave.
He's such a jerk. He wasted several days of his time, upset her, and didn't even have a chance to spend time with her, talk to her properly, or look at her more often.
I won't see her again until she goes to East China University for the start of the semester.
Lei Tingjun's gaze lingered on Ji Wanmei's face for a moment, but in the end, he couldn't drag things out and said, "Then I'm leaving."
After saying that, he slung his bag over his shoulder and turned around.
"Be careful on your way!" Ji Wanmei said urgently from behind him.
Lei Tingjun didn't dare turn around to look at her again.
He was afraid that if he turned around and saw her, he wouldn't be able to resist rushing over and hugging her.
