Chapter 151
Ji Wanmei ran briskly down the dormitory building.
She herself did not realize that at this moment she was filled with anticipation and excitement, and her light steps were like butterflies fluttering in the lush campus.
Ji Wanmei's graceful figure formed a beautiful sight, and students passing by on the campus avenue couldn't help but be drawn to her, frequently turning back to look at her.
Just as she was about to reach the door, Ji Wanmei suddenly slowed down.
As the sun set in the evening, a tall figure wearing a black T-shirt stood at the school gate.
Ji Wanmei stared at that retreating figure, her heart pounding like a deer.
The man seemed to sense something, turned around, and met her gaze across the distance.
It's him, Lei Tingjun, it really is him!
He even got a haircut, probably so he could see her.
The new hairstyle made the man look even more handsome and dashing, highlighting the deep contours of his jaw and brow bone, and his full, straight nose was like a sharp sword.
After not seeing him for more than half a month, his skin seemed to have darkened a bit, becoming a wheat-colored complexion, and his arm muscles were even more muscular, giving him a wild and powerful look.
He was still wearing those slightly worn jeans and leather boots. He had driven for several hours straight without even taking a break before arriving at East China University.
If he misses this evening, and school starts tomorrow, September 1st, he might not be able to see Ji Wanmei again.
Ji Wanmei, with her gentle eyes, ran over lightly and stopped two or three steps in front of him. She put her hands behind her back, stood on tiptoe, and smiled sweetly without saying a word.
Lei Tingjun also looked at her, as if he couldn't get enough of her. His dark eyes lingered and were deep as they swept over her face inch by inch.
The two stared at each other in silence for a long while, a subtle warmth and affection swirling in the air.
Unable to bear his intense gaze, Ji Wanmei lowered her eyelids slightly and asked softly, "Where did you come from?"
“I came from Pingdong City,” Lei Tingjun said in a low voice.
His voice was unusually low and hoarse, sounding more composed than before. It was hard to tell whether it was due to emotional fluctuations or from being too tired from working non-stop for the past few days.
Before he arrived, Ji Wanmei had been looking forward to seeing him, but when she finally saw him, she felt as if they hadn't seen each other for a long time, and she didn't know what to say to him.
"Have you eaten?" she asked him.
"Not yet." Lei Tingjun naturally wanted to have a meal with her as well.
“I haven’t eaten yet either, so let’s go outside the school and find a place to get something to eat?” Ji Wanmei asked him what he thought.
“Okay.” Lei Tingjun was as accommodating as ever when facing her.
The two then walked side by side out of the school.
Lei Tingjun is taller than most men, especially in an era when many families are tightening their belts, his 1.85-meter height makes him stand out.
In addition, Ji Wanmei's beautiful and charming appearance made the two of them stand out when they walked together.
Even though Lei Tingjun was walking with his eyes straight ahead, he could still notice that many students, especially the male students, were secretly looking at Ji Wanmei.
She walked quite a distance away, but the male students were still craning their necks to look.
Those young, sunny college students, wearing brand-new white shirts and clean white sneakers, had cheerful and energetic smiles on their faces.
They walked towards us, books in their hands and backpacks on their backs, their vibrant and youthful spirit giving us a sense of boundless hope for the future.
Compared to him, Lei Tingjun silently lowered his eyes, looking at his own dark clothes, faded jeans, and dusty old leather boots.
Ji Wanmei beside him was like the most dazzling pearl, the most beautiful flower, while he was like the most inconspicuous soil beside her, used to complement her plants.
"Our school is huge. I came a few days early, and I still haven't finished exploring it." Ji Wanmei didn't seem to care about the stares from passersby.
"Hmm." Lei Tingjun responded, glancing up at the teaching buildings standing tall in East China University. "Your school is very beautiful."
It was only then that Lei Tingjun realized that she had arrived at the school a few days earlier, which explained why she hadn't received the letter he had asked A-Qiang to take back.
But now that I've seen her, it doesn't matter whether she received the letter or not.
In the drawer of the dormitory at the Thunder Army construction site, there are many more letters that have been written but not yet sent.
"What do you want to eat?" Lei Tingjun asked Ji Wanmei as they arrived at a snack street outside the school.
He doesn't care what she eats; what matters is what she wants to eat.
But Ji Wanmei was actually lying too.
She had already eaten at school, and had just had some pastries from Wuguifang with her roommates, so she wasn't hungry at all.
She could tell that Lei Tingjun had come all travel-worn and that it was around five or six o'clock, so she suggested that they eat together.
"There's a beef brisket place up ahead that tastes pretty good, let's go eat there," Ji Wanmei said.
Lei Tingjun had come all this way, and Ji Wanmei wanted to take him out for a nice meal.
The area around the school gate is full of cheap noodles, rice noodles, rice bowls, and stir-fries. Ji Wanmei finally found a beef brisket hot pot restaurant.
Once inside the shop, the two of them ordered a small hot pot.
The restaurants near the school gate usually serve generous portions; they generally don't skimp on the weight. The beef brisket is cut into small pieces about two fingers wide, and two whole plates are served.
Simmered in tomato broth until tender and flavorful, it leaves a lingering fragrance on the lips and teeth.
Lei Tingjun was the one eating most of the food, while Ji Wanmei helped him pick up some dishes.
Through the steaming white mist from the soup pot, Lei Tingjun watched Ji Wanmei bustling around serving him food. He could tell that she wasn't actually hungry and had come specifically to eat with him.
"Where in Pingdong are you now? What are you doing?" Ji Wanmei asked him.
"The guy I met on the train last time who encountered a pickpocket was the deputy manager of Pingdong Yuan Construction. When I first went to Pingdong, I found a job there, helping him transport building materials."
While eating, Lei Tingjun said, "I bought a few used trucks and plan to work with A-Qiang to transport building materials and recycle scrap steel from construction sites."
Ji Wanmei was slightly surprised.
She knew that Lei Tingjun would eventually start his own transportation fleet after going to the city, but she didn't expect it to happen so soon.
In just over half a month, he had already assembled the team.
His decisiveness and courage in doing things far exceeded Ji Wanmei's expectations.
Ji Wanmei thought for a moment: "Is it the Thunder Transport Team?"
"Thunder Transport Team?" Thunder Army was surprised.
He hadn't even thought about naming the transport team, but Ji Wanmei's reminder made him think the name was quite good.
Lei Tingjun smiled and said, "I just finished settling things with the convoy these past few days and haven't had time to think of a name yet. The name you suggested is quite good; from now on, we'll call it the Thunder Transport Team."
