Chapter 16 This debt is recorded

Chapter Sixteen

After arriving at the hospital, Yang Zhiping went directly to the information desk on the first floor to ask for his friend's room number.

Then he took a bag of fruit and canned goods and went upstairs.

These days, fruits and canned goods are in high demand.

Pingquan County is not located on the coast, so there are not many local fruits. Whatever fruits are produced are sold to big cities or sent directly to canning plants to be canned and then sold.

For the average person, it's very difficult to buy fruit.

But Yang Zhiping immediately bought two or three pounds of fruit, plus two cans of yellow peaches.

The friend he visited was named Zuo Quangui.

Zuo Quangui was lying slumped on the hospital bed, his right hand with an IV drip in it, and his face was wrapped in several exaggerated white bandages from the bridge of his nose to behind his ears, receiving an IV drip.

I don't know. Seeing how many bandages he had wrapped around his head, I thought he had some kind of major brain surgery.

But actually, it was just that his nose was bleeding from being hit.

When Yang Zhiping came in, Zuo Quangui was wolfing down food—the thin porridge and fried dough sticks that his family had brought him that morning.

Since he was admitted to the hospital yesterday, several groups of people have visited him. This morning, his father came to remind him that the factory leaders might also come to see him this afternoon, and told him to be careful what he said.

Zuo Quangui knew then that his opportunity had arrived.

He deliberately made such a big fuss this time because he wanted to teach Lei Tingjun and his gang a lesson.

Even if we don't skin them alive, we'll make them lose their jobs.

Otherwise, he would never be able to swallow this insult!

A knocking sound rang out on the door.

Zuo Quangui hurriedly stuffed the last half of the fried dough stick into his mouth, and mumbled an indistinct reply, "Come in!"

Yang Zhiping went inside and, upon seeing Zuo Quangui's condition, adjusted his glasses and asked with concern, "Quangui, your injury looks quite serious. Are you alright?"

When Zuo Quangui saw that it was the deputy factory director's son who had come to see him in person, he was still somewhat flattered, even though the two were childhood friends. After all, the other man had gone to a prestigious university in Guangcheng to study and returned, which was completely different from those of them who had started working in the factory at the age of sixteen.

He quickly sat up from the hospital bed: "Oh, it's Zhiping! You're so busy, what brings you here!"

"I heard you were injured, so I came to see you." Yang Zhiping held up the fruit and canned goods in his hand and gestured to them.

Then they placed the items at the head of the hospital bed.

Zuo Quangui's eyes lit up when he saw the fruit and canned goods!

Wow, Yang Zhiping's family is rich, and he's certainly generous with his money.

Of the other people, they either brought eggs or came empty-handed, but no one gave such a presentable gift as Yang Zhiping.

Zuo Quangui was secretly pleased. Sure enough, when it comes to making friends, you should choose those with high social status and wealth.

"Thank you so much, Zhiping. You're so busy, yet you still took the time to come see me. I feel so bad about it." Zuo Quangui quickly sat up straight and prepared to get out of bed to pull a chair over for Yang Zhiping to sit on.

"You're still on an IV drip, don't move, I'll do it myself." Yang Zhiping acted very casually, tucked his briefcase under his arm, and pulled up a chair to sit down in front of him.

Zuo Quangui quietly sized up his old friend whom he hadn't seen for three or four years.

He had his Shanghai-style hair neatly combed with mousse, wore black-rimmed glasses, a white shirt and black trousers, black pointed leather shoes, and carried a genuine leather wallet. His whole demeanor exuded a different vibe from these country bumpkins from the county.

This outfit is exactly the kind of outfit that only business people and wealthy people in Shanghai and Beijing would wear.

"Zhiping, I heard that you're planning to join the Dongfang Factory and take over your father's job this time you're back?"

Zuo Quangui thought to himself that he had to take advantage of the moment to curry favor with this friend, so that he could get some benefits in the factory in the future.

Yang Zhiping pushed up his glasses and smiled: "We do have that plan."

Yang Zhiping dislikes others interfering too much in his affairs, especially before things are settled; saying too much will only bring unnecessary trouble.

Moreover, over the years, he has learned a lesson from his father: to keep a low profile in everything.

At the very least, one should act modestly to avoid provoking dissatisfaction or hostility from others.

He then subtly changed the subject: "By the way, I heard you were beaten up by a group of thugs at the factory and ended up in the hospital. What happened?"

When this was mentioned, Zuo Quangui became furious, his face full of resentment.

He muttered a curse under his breath: "That's right, it's those scoundrels in the factory. I don't know how the head of the personnel department managed to recruit these social ills into the factory. They're always causing trouble, fighting, and harassing women!"

"That day, I just couldn't stand their thuggish behavior, so I spoke up for them. I never expected that they would surround me without saying a word and beat me up!"

"Look, they broke my nose. My face was covered in blood. If people nearby hadn't taken me to the hospital right away, I'm afraid I would have been beaten to death on the spot!"

"The doctor said that I need to have surgery for this injury, otherwise it will greatly affect my future recovery."

"Moreover, my hospitalization has affected my work. Not only has being hospitalized for surgery delayed my work for so many days, but people who don't know the situation might think I have some kind of connection with those thugs. I really have no way to explain this!"

Zuo Quangui vividly described what happened that day, embellishing the story.
