Chapter 199
The short holiday of a few days came to an end quickly.
Ji Wanmei was going back to school, and Ji Xingguo was very reluctant to see her go.
His daughter had finally come back to spend a few days with him, and now she's leaving again so soon.
A day in advance, Ji Xingguo busied himself preparing a lot of food and supplies for Ji Wanmei to take to school.
If she couldn't finish it all, she should share it with her roommates and try to build good relationships with them.
Ji Xingguo experienced the "Down to the Countryside Movement" and knew all too well how important it was to integrate into a new environment and build good relationships with the people.
When Ji Wanmei returned, she had many bags and packages; when she left, she had the same many bags and packages again.
She looked at all the things her father had prepared for her and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Ji Xingguo even bought sausages and ham for Ji Wanmei and packed them in her luggage.
"Dad, our school doesn't have a kitchen. Where am I supposed to cook these things?" Ji Wanmei said.
Ji Xingguo slapped his forehead: "That's right, Dad forgot. Don't worry, Dad has cooked it for you. You can take it and eat it when you eat in the cafeteria."
Ji Xingguo indeed took out the sausages that had already been packed, took them to the kitchen to cook them, and then packed them back into a sealed jar.
Those canned food containers have a preservative effect; cooked food can be kept for several weeks without any problems.
"It's so heavy, Dad, I can't lift it anymore." Ji Wanmei wanted her dad to stop packing things for her.
"It's okay. Once you get to the station, just take a taxi back to school."
After lunch that day, Ji Xingguo helped his daughter pack her things, had the driver bring the car over, and personally took her to the bus station.
Ji Wanmei was a little anxious. She had arranged with Lei Tingjun to pick her up at one o'clock this afternoon.
However, Ji Wanmei's father brought her so many things and personally took her to the station, which made it impossible for Ji Wanmei to find a chance to meet Lei Tingjun.
She was also worried that if Lei Tingjun didn't know anything and ran into her father as soon as he arrived, what would happen?
The worst thing is to read it aloud.
It's better not to think about it, because once you do, it's easy for it to come true.
The car stopped outside the bus station. After the father and daughter entered the station, Ji Xingguo put his things in the waiting hall and said to Ji Wanmei, "Meimei, wait for me here. Dad will go buy you a ticket."
“Okay, Dad.” Ji Wanmei nodded, sat down in the chair, and watched her father walk toward the ticket window.
There were several people queuing in front of the ticket window. Ji Xingguo was a man of principle, so he didn't cut in line and just waited in line at the back.
Ji Wanmei glanced at her watch; it was almost past one o'clock, and Lei Tingjun should have arrived by now.
He most likely went to the factory workers' compound to look for her first. If he didn't find her, I wonder if he could guess that she had already arrived at the station.
It wasn't that she intentionally stood him up, but she couldn't refuse her father's offer to take her; she just couldn't bring herself to say it.
Ji Wanmei kept glancing outside the station. Seeing that her father's queue still had some time to go, she decided to take advantage of the break to go out and check.
She placed her belongings on a chair in the waiting hall. There were security guards on duty at the county station, so she didn't have to worry about losing anything.
Ji Wanmei then went over and asked the security guard on duty to watch her luggage, saying that she was going to use the restroom.
After saying that, she left the ticket hall and stood in the square outside, looking around.
Lei Tingjun drove an old gray pickup truck. Not many people drive this kind of vehicle in Pingquan County, so it's easy to spot.
She looked around anxiously for a while, but didn't see the pickup truck, so she prepared to turn around and go back.
She felt a pang of disappointment, thinking that she might miss out on him today.
Oh dear, if I had known it would turn out like this, I wouldn't have made him make that trip alone.
Ji Wanmei lowered her head and turned away.
Just then, a pickup truck sped over from the side of the road and quickly stopped outside the bus station. A tall, dark figure ran in.
"Ji Wanmei!" It was Lei Tingjun's voice.
Across the square, Lei Tingjun's gaze precisely spotted her.
Hearing his voice, Ji Wanmei was overjoyed. Her low spirits instantly lifted, and she turned around, preparing to step down the steps and run towards him.
"Meimei, where are you going?" At the same time, Ji Xingguo's voice rang out behind Ji Wanmei.
Ji Xingguo had already bought the ticket, but when he turned around, he found that the chairs in the waiting room were empty. He went outside to look for her and saw her standing at the bottom of the ticket hall steps, as if she was about to leave.
Ji Wanmei had already taken a step when she heard her father call her, and she froze instantly.
Lei Tingjun was still running towards them. Ji Wanmei heard Ji Xingguo's voice getting closer and closer behind her, and hurriedly gave Lei Tingjun a wink.
"Dad has bought your ticket. The train leaves in twenty minutes, so don't wander off." Ji Xingguo walked over to Ji Wanmei.
Ji Wanmei turned around stiffly, tried to smile at Ji Xingguo and said, "I'm going to the restroom and buy a bottle of water to drink in the car."
"Dad prepared some water for you. It's in your white canvas backpack. It contains your favorite tangerine peel and orange tea."
Before Ji Xingguo could finish speaking, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar figure flashing past from the opposite side. He turned his head to look.
"Thunder Army!" Ji Xingguo suddenly shouted.
After Lei Tingjun got out of the car, he saw Ji Wanmei, ran towards her, and then noticed that she suddenly gave him a nervous wink. He then realized that Ji Xingguo might be with her.
The moment he realized it, Lei Tingjun stood still, without moving.
