Chapter 236 "Brother Lei, sister-in-law, please take a seat here!"

Chapter 236

Lei Tingjun released the girl from his arms, pecked her hair, and after a moment, said, "Let's go. I'll take you to see the workers' family bungalows first. You can stay there tonight."

The family quarters have individual rooms, which are temporary sheds, unlike the bunk beds with more than ten people in the workers' dormitories. They are more independent and have more privacy.

The facilities are not as complete and convenient as those in the workshop, but fortunately it is not far from here, and Ji Wanmei only stayed for two days.

Ji Wanmei's face was still a little red, her lips were swollen from his kisses, and she buried her head in his chest, refusing to lift it up.

Seeing that she seemed a little embarrassed, Lei Tingjun chuckled softly, lifted her cheek with one hand, and stroked her lips with his thumb and forefinger.

"It looks even redder, like flower petals, so beautiful." He couldn't resist leaning down and kissing it a few more times.

"Okay, okay, no more kissing!" Ji Wanmei covered his mouth with her palm in embarrassment and annoyance, pushing him away from her.

Lei Tingjun then grasped her slender fingertips, kissed them a few times with great affection, wrapped them in his large hand, and led her outside.

As soon as Lei Tingjun pushed open the workshop door, the group of people outside scattered like birds and beasts, running faster than rabbits.

It turned out that while Lei Tingjun and Ji Wanmei were being intimate inside the house, all of them had been secretly eavesdropping outside the door.

Lei Tingjun suddenly opened the door, and everyone was caught off guard and had to run away.

They were terrified of being caught by Boss Lei and given a good beating.

Lei Tingjun opened the door and discovered that these brats had dared to eavesdrop. His face darkened immediately, and he shouted in a deep voice, "You bunch of kids, are you asking for a beating?"

Ah Qiang walked over and said confidently, "Brother Lei, I assure you, I didn't eavesdrop just now, it was them!"

Lei Tingjun kicked him with a long leather boot and said in a harsh voice, "Go cook."

Although Ji Wanmei's face was still a little red, she calmed down a lot after being exposed to the cool breeze.

The more people there were and the bigger the scene, the calmer and more composed she became. When she heard Lei Tingjun arrange for A-Qiang to cook, she remembered the cured meats she had brought: "Oh right, I have cured pork and sausages in my luggage. Take some out and cook them for everyone."

Lei Tingjun said, "Don't give them any."

A bunch of disrespectful brats, daring to steal his girlfriend's things.

Ah Qiang quickly apologized with a grin: "Brother Lei, it's your wife's good intention, don't be so stingy. Let us brothers also get to enjoy her cooking!"

Lei Tingjun carried Ji Wanmei's two pieces of luggage from the workers' quarters to the other side, to the family bungalows about twenty meters away.

Lei Tingjun rented this place from the old workers at Fangyuan Construction Company. They happened to be working at other construction sites these days and wouldn't be back, so Lei Tingjun rented it temporarily for Ji Wanmei to stay for a couple of days.

The makeshift bungalow was only a dozen square meters in size, containing just a bed, a cabinet, a table, two thermos flasks, and nothing else that was actually useful.

The bedding and pillows were Lei Tingjun's own; he had brought them from his own side and was now laying them out for Ji Wanmei.

He pushed open the door, put his luggage inside, and said to Ji Wanmei, "The conditions are rather basic, so you'll have to make do for the next couple of days."

When Ji Wanmei went inside, she saw that the house was still very clean, though it was indeed simple.

However, she said, "It's okay, it doesn't matter where I live. Don't worry about me, I can adapt."

After putting away their luggage, Ji Wanmei followed Ji Wanmei back to the small shed behind their workshop where they cooked.

This small shed was also a temporary structure, supported by four pillars, with several rainproof awnings on top to provide shade and shelter from the rain, and a plastic film around it to keep out the cold winter winds.

Ji Wanmei finally saw the small shed and realized that the conditions in Lei Tingjun's work quarters were indeed quite harsh.

Everything is temporary; once the next project starts, we have to move again.

Fortunately, everyone is quite optimistic and knows how to find joy in hardship. Even in such an environment, they still buy groceries and cook, making life quite good.

When Lei Tingjun took Ji Wanmei over to see, the workers had already lit the stove, and a pot of bone broth was boiling in a large iron pot, which smelled quite delicious.

Ji Wanmei said, "What are you doing? It smells so good."

The cook chuckled, "Tonight, to welcome my sister-in-law over, we're having hot pot. We bought a lot of ingredients, and right now I'm making the broth. It's a hot pot broth made with fresh pork bones—the flavor is amazing!"

On construction sites, meals are usually cooked in communal pots, and people generally only care about being full, not about how good the food tastes.

However, Ji Wanmei came over today, and the chef in charge of cooking was willing to show off his skills.

The others busily moved tables over there. A dozen or so people used two square tables to push together, and eight long benches were neatly arranged around the rectangular table.

The dishes on the table were all washed and laid out.

The men all love to eat meat, and they buy mostly meat dishes, with hardly any vegetables to be seen.

Ji Wanmei wanted to help, but Lei Tingjun pulled her back: "Just let them do it. These guys aren't usually this diligent. They're just putting on a show because they saw you're here."

Ji Wanmei smiled and said, "Your transportation team members are quite united, and the atmosphere at work and in life is very good."

As Ah Qiang passed by carrying two plates of food, he came over and seized the opportunity to say, "This is all thanks to Brother Lei's excellent leadership. Sister-in-law, you should praise Brother Lei more!"

Ji Wanmei smiled at Lei Tingjun, who looked helpless.

Before long, with everyone working together, two large pots of hot pot broth were ready, steaming hot as they were served.

Red butter and bright red chilies simmered and boiled in the pot.

It looks so appetizing.

"Alright, alright, dinner's ready!"

"Brother Lei, sister-in-law, come, come, have a seat here!"

Lei Tingjun led Ji Wanmei to sit down in the middle of the table, and everyone else sat down around them as well.

The chef said, "To eat authentic hot pot, you must have minced garlic and scallions or sesame oil. Any other way of eating it is not authentic. Add as much seasoning as you want. Let's have a city buffet for once."

Everyone had condiments such as sesame oil and minced garlic in front of them, and Lei Tingjun was in charge of adding them to Ji Wanmei's plate.

He asked very carefully, "Would you like minced garlic? And some scallions?"

Ji Wanmei bit her chopsticks: "Make sure there's less of everything."

After preparing a condiment bowl for Ji Wanmei, Lei Tingjun quickly made one for himself and then served Ji Wanmei some hot and simmered vegetables.

He would always put the cooked dishes into Ji Wanmei's bowl first, so that she could eat them first.

A table full of grown men—when had they ever seen Boss Lei so carefully serving someone? They couldn't help but feel envious.
