Chapter 309 "Want to get up and watch the sunrise?"

Chapter 309

Ji Wanmei had actually been awake for quite some time.

She drew back the curtain, sat on the upper bunk, and quietly watched Lei Tingjun handle a series of matters.

He was methodical and calm, exuding an aura that seemed unfazed even by the weight of Mount Tai, as if no difficulty could defeat him.

Looking at Lei Tingjun like this, Ji Wanmei suddenly remembered what happened a year ago.

At that time, on that train without a seat, Lei Tingjun also encountered a pickpocket.

He rushed forward without hesitation to help a complete stranger, and was injured in the process.

Now, a year later, on the same train to Guangzhou, Lei Tingjun caught another pickpocket.

Not for fame, not for profit, not for reward, but simply to protect her.

Her Thunder Army hadn't changed; he was still as sincere and devoted as ever, willing to do anything for her.

As Ji Wanmei looked at his resolute and sharp jawline, her eyes welled up with tears, and she suddenly felt like crying.

I don't know why.

Lei Tingjun thought she was frightened. Seeing her staring blankly at him without saying a word, he reached out and touched her head, softening his voice as he said, "Did I wake you up? It's alright now, you can go back to sleep. It's still early. I'll keep watch downstairs, everything will be fine."

"Aren't you sleepy?" Ji Wanmei checked the time; it was already past midnight.

From the moment he boarded the train until now, it's as if he hasn't had a break at all.

"I just dozed off for a bit, I'm not sleepy, you should go to sleep. It's still a long way from dawn." Lei Tingjun said, ruffling Ji Wanmei's hair, and then prepared to draw the curtains to block the view from others so that she could continue to rest.

The person in the upper bunk opposite me hadn't woken up at all; he was sleeping like a pig, snoring loudly.

The middle-aged passenger below didn't intend to disturb the young couple's private conversation. After seeing that there was nothing else to do, he lay down in the sleeper berth, turned to face the wall, and it was unclear whether he had fallen asleep or not.

Ji Wanmei noticed that Lei Tingjun's stubble had started to appear, a bluish-black color that grew around his chin, giving him a more profound and masculine look.

Ji Wanmei reached out and gently touched his face: "You should rest for a while too, don't overwork yourself."

“After something like this, there should be police officers patrolling outside, and thieves won’t dare to come out anymore,” she said.

"Okay, I know, go to sleep." Lei Tingjun pulled the small blanket up and covered Ji Wanmei with it. "Do you want some water?"

Ji Wanmei shook her head, her gaze lingering on Lei Tingjun's face for a while before she finally looked away and slowly lay down.

Thinking of something, Ji Wanmei sat up again and went to check the handbag hanging on the pillar at the foot of the bed.

Fortunately, the handbag was not damaged. The pickpocket probably didn't have time to get close with the blade before being stopped by the Thunder Army with lightning speed.

Ji Wanmei would never put valuables such as bankbooks in this handbag.

The bag contained all sorts of personal items, such as a cassette radio that had run out of power, a thermal box, a pack or two of tissues, her and Lei Tingjun's toiletries, drinking water, and so on, so they could take them out whenever they needed them.

Seeing that everything inside was intact and nothing was missing, Ji Wanmei zipped up the zipper, placed it on one side of the bed, and lay down.

She quietly lifted a corner of the curtain and saw Lei Tingjun sitting on the lower bunk, using the thin blanket from the train as a backrest, one hand behind his head and the other holding an architecture book, reading it intently.

His gaze was calm and focused, and his face was serene.

Ji Wanmei smiled silently, lowered the curtain, and lay back down.

It was a strange feeling. She could almost picture Lei Tingjun looking like this and imagine what his silk scarves looked like during his self-study exams last year.

That's probably how it was. In the dead of night, all the workers in the dormitory were fast asleep, snoring away, but he was the only one reviewing his books by the faint light of a flashlight.

No one's achievements are inseparable from persistent effort; even the most talented person needs to work hard.

Lei Tingjun is talented, but what's even more remarkable is his willingness to put in the effort that most people wouldn't.

Such a wonderful man—this is the man Ji Wanmei has her eye on.

Ji Wanmei felt proud and gratified. As she thought about it, she slowly fell asleep again.

The train occasionally passes through a mountain tunnel.

A rumbling sound echoed through the long tunnel.

The illuminated signs on the tunnel and the streetlights on both sides of the track reflected the light, making it appear to glow and fade.

Lei Tingjun's deeply contoured face appeared unusually serene and calm against the black backdrop.

At this moment, Lei Tingjun also felt a sense of satisfaction and peace.

The girl he loved lay where he could see her as soon as he looked up, and he was there to protect her, allowing her to sleep peacefully without any worries.

Just thinking about this makes Lei Tingjun feel satisfied.

Full of energy.

As dawn broke, the first signs of day appeared.

Lei Tingjun looked up from his book and saw that the sky outside the train window was gradually turning a pale white. Perhaps because of the direction, they could see the sunrise over the distant mountains.

The dawn light bathed the gray landscape in a soft orange-pink hue, with a few rays of light peeking out from the clouds.

Lei Tingjun watched for a while, then suddenly got up, lifted the curtain, and saw Ji Wanmei sleeping soundly, with a few soft strands of hair falling on her fair and tender cheeks, her breathing light and even.

Lei Tingjun reached out and gently patted Ji Wanmei's cheek, softly calling, "Meimei, Meimei."
